Are there any variant items you're waiting out to find instead of trading for?

After a year of looking, I finally snagged the Autumn and Winter train sets from balloons within days of each other, and I felt so satisfied! I am all about trading for big ticket items that I'll never get from a tree or a balloon (computers, elaborate kimono stands, etc) or island locked variant items, but I do enjoy having a few items in my back pocket that could possibly come up via balloon/villager/tree in different colors than what's in my Nooks, such as the train sets, or right now at the top of my list the two remaining colors of sleeping bags. Anyone else do this to keep some sense of anticipation in the game?

The only thing I want to find rather than trade is the iron dresser DIY so I can start putting together my customised kitchen.

Nothing that I really want or am looking for in particular, but my catalogue is incomplete, so anything new is fun. I got a blue sewing machine the other day and always glad when Redd brings something new. If I really want something, I'll usually trade for it.

I waited for a while to find the rattan variants on my own but when that proved to be too hard I caved and bought them online. Its really difficult/near impossible to get all variants without online trading so kudos to anyone who had the patience and stamina for it

I actually got 3 of the trains sets randomly(all but the summer one). But a while back I went to a cataloging town so now I have all buyable floors,walls and rugs and all nook variants. I have most of the saharah walls/floors too still working on it. Now I'm working on ordering all the sanrio items and collecting all the umbrellas and kicks items(this will take a long time). Also working on nook achievements.

might not count seeing as how they aren’t furniture items but i’m waiting to get the last clothes and rugs that i need on my own. would certainly be quicker to trade for them (especially since able’s and saharah haven’t been all that merciful lol) but the satisfaction of finding something you need on your own really is amazing so i can be patient.

I honestly tried attempting this, but after months of shooting balloons and shaking trees to no avail in completing the Coffee Cup set, I went ham on catalog trading. Even made a Nookazon account despite not wanting to. I just didn’t have the patience.

Huge kudos to those that do, hopefully you all find the colors you’re looking for soon.

I catalogued everything furniture reorderable a while back, so it's basically just like clothes **** that I just do on my own

I went to a catalogue island a short while back but its not changed how I feel about balloons.
They can still give items that inspire ideas. Or just give me stuff to sell and make bells.

So my excitement hasn't changed even without the possibility of new variants which is good as it was a concern of mine.

Have to say that the Train Sets are my favorite also. I know I have the winter and summer one, don't think I have the fall.

I waited ages for any Imperial Vanity, but mostly the black one which is the colour my town gets anyway, and it never showed up. Traded for one last week, and it literally appeared in Nooklings the next day. =.=;

lol basically everything except those that I manage to catalog for free and the cottage core/forest core items that I have to use to decorate my island with haha. If i don't need it for decoration purposes, i'm waiting out. I'm sure i will manage to get all of them at some point or another, so there's no need to rush into things. Especially for some of the items that I know for sure I will never use. But then again, I'm not the biggest enthusiast when it comes to cataloging so even if I don't get some items it doesn't bother me.

I have been customizing my island this past week, though...and I always get more balloons when I'm terraforming. It's almost as if the game says "Oh...you're busy doing stuff? Here...have a balloon every 2 minutes." So, I'm hoping I start to get some more items that I don't have.

The Gulliver items that I haven’t wanted to decorate with.. I’ll get all of them on my own since he will give you one of each item before randomly giving you items. I know it will take another year but I’m in it for the long haul. Also probably the bug and fish models. I wasn’t huge into completing my catalog until I joined active online communities. I had a full catalog prior to welcome Amiibo on new leaf thanks to trades on this forum.

I have traded for pretty much every variant of item that I have really wanted, and I would do it again lol. I am not patient enough to wait for certain furniture/clothes/DIYs to show up on my island, plus I feel the RNG is just too unforgiving - My track record of obtaining DIY recipe duplicates is atrocious, I can't imagine waiting for the ones I really wanted to wash up on my shores.

That being said, The excitement of randomly getting something you've wanted is a great feeling. It just isn't enough of a thrill for me to counteract the convenience of trading for stuff.

I have no patience so I just buy them. But I got a new cuckoo clock variant from a balloon recently and it was the most thrilling experience of my life, so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
