Growing up, I wasn't really a superstitious person. The only superstition that I actually believed in was the whole "opening an umbrella indoors" thing. I was told as a child that opening an umbrella indoors was bad luck and I legit used to believe that opening an umbrella indoors would cause someone to get struck by lightning while you were still indoors.

I was superstitious when I was younger making sure I wouldn’t open an umbrella indoors, not walking under a ladder, knocking on wood to make sure nothing bad happens.

Now as an adult I’m not anymore and I don’t really think about that stuff.

Not at all anymore. But when I was little I did believe in some fancy tricks to make it snow, like flushing ice down the toilet, putting white crayons in the freezer, sleeping with pajamas inside out, and more
Are these common things people tell little kids or was this just where I live?

Not really superstitious anymore, but I do remember a family member being superstitious, and one of them was raising your feet off the car floor when going through a yellow light. Obviously whoever's driving can't do this though, because it would pose immediate safety risks. 😂

I used to be when I was a kid due to being told things by my grandma and other family members, like touching the outside of the plane before entering for good luck. Nowadays I don't believe in superstition or anything of that sort. If anything, things that seem like "signs" is merely just coincidences.

I cannot remember if I ever believed any of that stuff. I know I used to believe in Santa Claus, but that's the only one I can actually remember.

I never truly believed in superstitions, but I have gotten close a few times when it came to sports. I ate a specific cheeseburger from a big chain restaurant once and my team won a big game in the playoffs. I continued to eat the same burger when I could, and they would win, but if I didn't eat that burger, they lost.

I didn't truly believe that my favorite team was winning because I ate cheeseburgers 😆 but that small part of my brain kept saying "but... will you chance it?"

End of story... I gained unhealthy weight, and my team won the championship 😆

Sort of as a kid due to me not being diagnosed with autism quite yet and I kept taking every superstition quite literally. For six months I refused to step on cracks to the point where even the lines left where floor tiles were positioned next to each other counted as cracks and in the grocery store I would only get through the store if I jumped and landed on each tile perfectly in the center.

Not really. In fact, I found them very odd. For example, when a bird poops on you it is considered good luck. I don't think a bird pooping on you is good luck at all 😆

i was for a while but kind of only because of my ocd. my dad taught me about stuff like knocking on wood to prevent and throwing spilled salt behind your left shoulder to prevent bad luck when i was a kid and then they became… compulsions!

most recently as an adult, i had a friend who was kinda spiritual get angel numbers stuck in my brain for a few years. i started constantly seeing repeating numbers and getting really anxious about them meaning something

now i’m medicated lol :lemon:

Sometimes I used to not wear a shirt for a while if I got into trouble or was bullied while wearing it. Same with some YouTubers, music, movies, etc. Kind of weird outside associations, I guess.

Nope, not at all. Bring on the black cats.

Gozer agrees. She is probably making biscuits for you from beyond the rainbow as we speak.

Kinda..? But I shift my superstitions from negative to positive! Something like, instead of constantly thinking doing [x] will lead to bad luck, I've built a habit of thinking doing [y] is good luck c: It feels nicer to think of the positive outcomes than the negative ones because it builds a small amout of confidence in me.

For example, I have what I consider to be my "lucky socks" which are just little twin stars socks. Do they actually bring me luck? Not always lol, but I will always grab the chance to feel a little better with those on.

Another example was when I bought a Pokemon booster pack the other day. I thought, if I got a rare card in this pack that means this luck will carry me through my exams and beyond. And would you know it, I pulled an Ultra Rare Lapras Ex full art!! I was so starstruck that it gave me a boost of confidence. I placed the card at the back of my clear phone case so I'm reminded of this luck and I can bring this luck with me wherever.

These superstitions are based on nothing really, but if it helps you get a lil boost of serotonin and happiness then I don't think there's anything wrong with that :)

When I was a kid, I stepped on a crack to break my mom’s back and nothing happened so I don’t really believe in that stuff anymore

No, I was always the logic-driven kind of kid. I was too curious how things worked and never accepted illogical things. Nowadays I find astrology interesting, but mostly based off of vibes.

Yep. Sometimes it's more ocd, but yep. No stepping on cracks, step counts a certain pattern, knocking on wood to not jinx myself, the pinch of salt thing, umbrella in the house. It's maybe a little better now that I'm older?

But then for some superstitions i don't believe them at all, like black cats and bad luck. Pfft, if i see a black cat crossing my path, I'm gonna cuddle it (if it lets me). They're not unlucky. They're adorable.

I do sometimes feel embarrassed because it's not logical that if i don't do x, then bad thing y will happen. But then i don't really care, I'm still doing x. Just in case.
