high school art classes taught me that being creative is bad and to only draw by the books. I hated it.

Doing things by the rules(as in instruction, follow the law) means you well get a well made thing, being creative means you can do something bad, but more importantly something better.

So does Van Gogh, Frida Khalo and basically every avant-garde artist, at some time all the impressionists (Monet,Manet,Calliebotte,Cassat,Renoir,etc,) were consider rebels and their art worthless, all I can say now is, who is laughing now (well clearly not them, because they die, but their art is)
