Big life-changing question in 3...2...1...

Don't do it.

A woman's (or man, or whatever) crowning glory is her hair, they say, doesn't matter about the gender though. :)

Plus chopper's regret is real. :(

My wife's hair is now down past her waiste since isolation, and I've just talked her out of cutting it.
She only wanted to have it waiste length, but I love it longer! (She's gender fluid but loves long hair. I think she sees herself more like Ted Nugent rather than a chick with long hair, lol)

That's just me though. :)

Just be very, very sure, as hair only grows half an inch a month.

Doooo itttttt
Having short hair feels great and you can always grow it out again anyway ~ I'm transmasc nonbinary and I love my wavy hair when it's longer but nothing feels better to me than short hair, it just makes me so intensely happy. It's definitely worth trying and seeing how you get on with it ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’•

i know, everyone's gonna be like, 'hair will grow back, it's no big deal.' but as someone who's been growing out their hair for almost 10 years, it is kind of a big deal to some people. especially when you can't get that hair length back at a snap of a finger.

my suggestion, if you're seriously debating this, is not to listen to people online, or in your family, or friends. listen to you. if you want short hair, start putting your hair up; pin it back, smooth it, with pony tails, whatever you need to to get it to the desired length that you want to try. see how it looks, see how it feels, see how your face becomes without your usual frame around it - because that's the only way to really tell if you find yourself comfortable with something. is to try it out. but cutting your hair off is an irreversible action.

so try putting it up, and in styles, that take it off your back / neck and hold it up from your face, etc. give yourself a new perspective on what it could look like, and make your decision based on how you feel. i know going through that journey of growing your hair out can be really tedious and frustrating, and some days we just want to lop it all off because of those complications - but we don't. for a number of reasons.

i just want you to make sure that you're sure before you do something you can't revert ๐Ÿ–ค

well that's the thing, you may have missed an erlier post I made but literally all i ever do is put it in a ponytail or braids. my hair being down has been annoying me nonstop for a while now. also my hair grows about 7-8" a year so if i do want it longet again it won't take so long :)

I've actually wanted to cut my hair short for quite a while (prob a year or two) and the only thing that's really given me the bravery to do it is my recent status as non-binary. i cut about 8-10" off today and I already feel so much better about it, now I just have to get it styled!

my dad is the same way, he loves when women have long hair. I however no longer desire to associate myself explicitly with being feminine and making my hair short (even if only temporarily) I think will help me ease into that transition. I've had long hair for years and it's such a hassle to care for, and I honestly never even did anything w it except give myself bangs.

still, I appreciate the response :)

I'd wait a week or two and if you still feel like doing it, then do it! After having chin to shoulder-length hair my whole life and always feeling meh about it, I finally decided to do something dramatic and cut it short (much shorter than your picture) when I was 20 and I never once regretted it - in fact the next time I went for a cut I got it even shorter! I finally feel like my hair suits who I am and it's a great feeling :)

I already started cutting it short, couldn't wait a week or even a day lmao ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

but I'm already really happy about it and can't wait to have it styled!!

You should go for it if you really want to. Recently, I cut my hair that short and I have also had long hair my whole life and I love it. (i would show a pic but I'm shy =D)

It never hurts to try something out. If you don't like it, oh well. Grow it out again and try something else.

Maybe get it cut in increments. Like if your hair is shoulder length, get it cut to chin length. Then after a while go a bit shorter, and so on. Going from shoulder length to pixie cut can be quite jarring, I imagine.

But hey, hair always grows back, and you can always get a wig if you don't like it.

Well, your hair definitely grows better than mine, I mean in July it will be two years since my buzz cut and I still look like the 5th Beatle in length, which is nice but I can't wait for it to have proper length. But yeah don't do it too short unless you have time to care for it.

Also yes, hair length doesn't matter for gender or anything. Personally I prefer longer hair no matter one's identity and stuff :)

Really I've heard so many discussions on like "lol I need my hair this or that to be this or that" and I'm like... no your hair definitely doesn't matter for that part. If you want it one or the other way sure go ahead but I don't think it should matter as for your identity.

And since you started cutting already, best of luck on your journey and such :D And yeah short hair is definitely more maintenance, I can confirm... :p

Gonna be completely honest here: I cut my hair short a couple years ago and I regretted it almost immediately after I did it. But thatโ€™s just me, and I donโ€™t look good with short hair.

I think that doing it in stages is really smart because you can take time to adjust to each new length and stop when you start getting uncomfortable. Thatโ€™s just one ghostโ€™s two cents though. Take it for what itโ€™s worth, fam.

my hair is like a bob cut rn and I'm totally cool w it, it's refreshing after having long hair for so long. I prob won't get my hair cut really short until I've waited longer and decided that I'm comfortable w it :)

I got a pixie cut a few years ago and really liked having short hair. It's so nice to not have it in the way anymore. Way less tangles too.

I'd say it's worth a shot. You can always grow it out again if you don't like it or get bored of it. It felt like mine grew out in no time when I felt like changing back.

Edit: I was definitely mistaken as a guy at least once when I had the short hair. I actually didn't really mind. I identify as female but I don't really let gender norms bug me too much.

tbh getting a short cut so I can be mistaken as a guy is why I want to do it lol, tryna break the "okay she's def a female" trope and actually represent myself more as a non-binary individual.

my hair is still right under my ears, night give a few weeks before I decide if I definitely want to cut it really short or not.

i say go for it; itll grow back
every time i cut my hair short i feel very powerful ๐Ÿ–ค

im growing it out a bit for now but i plan to cut it all off again sometime in the future. the first time i did it i went straight from crazy long to super short and it felt so nice to lose all of the weight on my head/neck. also shampooing and drying is so easy ;-; i can post some pictures if you want but idk if they would help you decide what is good for you.

good luck with your decision!

I think I'm gonna ditch the perm idea for now and go w this kind of hairstyle:

cause it's a unisex (aka nb!!) hairstyle that's p close to what I wanted before. plus it's super cool! I just gotta figure out how I'll look w it and also figure out the cost. still think I might hold out at least til I get back to campus and decide if I really want it โ˜บ

Not to ruin anything but be careful getting it... you may very well look like a soccer rap hipster instead. I love your current one though, pixie semi-short, i had something similar before and it definitely doesn't give off any gendered vibes.

Also I wish I could find Vrisnem's brilliant post, but basically, you shouldn't have to answer "am I nb/trans/ngc etc because?" because of your hair and stuff. You don't come off as female to me in either way if that's what made you uncomfy, and yeah don't rush haircuts either way.

I've been trying to imagine what the hell a soccer rap hipster is for like 10 minutes๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I won't rush this haircut, especially being a college student on a disciplined field (music performance) but like I said before I have been interested in cutting it short for a while, cause I'm honestly just tired of dealing with long hair. I'm sure I'll go back to it eventually though, I've always had kinda a soft spot for really long hair.

It's mostly people with curly hair getting those haircut in a x10 bad version, look up like failed curly fades or stuff LOL. I mean basically a bunch of thick noodles on younger boys lol.

Yeah, for sure there are great short haircuts but yeah be careful with faded ones. Goodluck :)
