Many people have migrated to Bluesky from X and such. I'm tired of chasing the new thing, but I do want to follow an artist. I didn't have much of a choice with tumblr, that was as annoying as it was funny.
Can we list pros and cons of bluesky vs twitter/X without mentioning the owner?
One bluesky con I've heard about is the preexisting userbase.
I haven’t used Bluesky yet. Maybe I should, but I can’t stop thinking it’s pronounced “blewski” like a “brewski” for some reason lol.
Part of it, is that I already feel spread thin on social media. I have an X/Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Facebook (which I rarely use), and this. It doesn’t sound like much, but I don’t know…I’m tired of signing up for things.
But yeah…it sounds to me like there are a LOT more active users on Bluesky than Threads, which means more engagement.
I'm an early user of Bluesky from when the site was still in Beta. I got an invite code back then and have posted off and on for many months. The main pros of the site are that it's much less toxic than X and that it doesn't seem as overrun with bad posts. When I go through my feed on Bluesky I enjoy it much more than X.
The downside is the site is still fairly small. It's much bigger than when I started last year, but there still isn't nearly as many users or content as X. If you want a less toxic version of X it's perfect, but if you like posting and want a lot of engagement on what you share it won't be at the same scale.
I do think that BlueSky is a nice looking social media platform (as much as I can say for a Twitter-style platform, which is not my personal favorite), but every time I've logged onto it, none of the people I want to follow are there. It looks like it's seeing a surge now so I do need to check back every once in a while.
I will say I like it better than Threads, which requires linking to Instagram. The only Instagram I have is my IRL profile with my real name and a profile picture of me. I like the easy anonymity of BlueSky like Twitter. There are aspects that I talk about freely online but not IRL, like being nonreligious. I feel incredibly limited on Threads.
I'm new to Bluesky, so I don't know the pros and cons yet but it reminds me of old twitter in 2010, I have my quiet bunch of people and trolls and bots didn't find us YET.
i've been on the fence on making an account lately cause i hate twitter but a few of my friends are still there/active on twitter. ideally i want to have less accounts to keep track of but it's worth moving over to
I’ve joined that site a month ago and I really like it! Pretty much left my twitter alone especially since bots keep following me there and it’s tiring to see lol I love seeing what artists and indie devs have been making etc and overall, its a chill place so far in my experience.
