it some cases yes. for example if you start a thread about chocolate and it turns out to a flame war about kim kardashian or something, most likely. if its peaceful conversations then no, ive only seen derailed threads get closed if theres arguing and insults.

Yes, usually mods will see it through reports and take action through there

Yeah, they can be locked for people getting off topic.

It can also be reopened after being pruned or tidied after a while if the mods deem it worthy.
