Can I put a fence next to a growing tree?

If I put a fence right next to a tree sapling will it grow? I dont remember if I needed any space between the trees in order for them to grow properly.

I think they will, but to be safe I've left a gap between fences and my saplings whilst they're growing. Gonna add in the fence once they're fully grown.
