Do You Plan on Buying Switch 2 within first week of Launch?

At first I wasn’t sure if I’d get it as soon as it came out, but after the direst today and seeing Kirby air riders, I definitely am going to buy one lol. Kirby air ride was and is one of my favorite games and I never thought they would make another one 🥹

I haven’t even had time to watch the direct yet! I started to this morning then got busy with events on this site and stuff irl. I need to watch that tonight!

A lot of the games look like fun for Switch 2. The new Mario Kart looks fantastic. Adding Gamecube games to Switch Online is awesome! Metroid Prime 4 will be great I'm sure. I can stomach $450 for the Switch 2 console. But $80 or $90 price per game is going to make me not buy Switch 2. I only buy Physical games, and it looks like they are also going to price Physical games $10 higher. So in the past, when games at launch cost $60, and if you wait a little (or a long time) for sales, you can pretty reliably find Switch games for $40-$50. This means for every 5 Switch games I can buy, I can maybe buy 3 Switch 2 games. I get that the cost of things is rising, but to almost double the price per game is unbelievable, and I will not be a buying a Switch 2 until games are selling at a more reasonable price.

With the games selling at a price point of $80 for digital and $90 for physical, I'm going to have to revoke my "within the first year" statement.

Can I make it work if I want to?
Yeah.

Do I want to spend that much on individual games?
No.
I'm right with you. If new 1st party games increased from $60 to $70 for Switch 2, I could understand that. Wouldn't like it, but can't argue with it. $60 to $90 though!? Totally crazy and I'm not willing to get only 2 games when I now am able to buy 3 for the same price.

I think I will? It really depends on if I get the email from Nintendo about the presale, because I really don't want to deal with the sites crashing for retailers and not being able to get it during the presale time. I still don't know though, I can definitely justify the price for the console itself and I do think that having some stuff like the gamecube EP for Switch 2 is very smart since a lot of the stuff for original switch will be playable on the Switch 2. I'm uncomfortable with the prices of the games but I am also trying to wait and see since so far it seems that Mario Kart is the most expensive game and I think Donkey Kong is going to be 70? I don't know if that will be the price for all games so I don't want to think the worst.

I'm also worried that if somehow the Switch 2 really takes off it will be hard to find one like the Switch one was at one point. I have a FOMO problem but I also need to be smart and think this through so I am going to take a week and figure it out.

o my goodness… so it’s official that i’m taking over my bf’s oled AND the switch 2 launch is around the time of my bday !! it’s still just him getting it but i’m gonna be so spoiled…. nice oled screen 4 me, and i can play his switch 2 when he gets it!! >: )))

really hoping there’s some cute releases in different colors for when i eventually get one later on. i really do like the Joycon 2™ accent colors + grey color scheme, it’s tasteful. that makes me hopeful that different releases will be even better looking than some of the special edition switches and joycon pairings lol
i just got word that my bf is contemplating not get it bc of the price/price of games!!!!!!

As an update to my first post in this thread, I will be purchasing one on release day. Mario Kart World has me so hyped. The only thing that would make it better is if Lemmy returned as a playable character, which hopefully we’ll get confirmation of soon.

As others I think I changed a bit my mind with the reveal of the new game prices...I'm not saying I'm never getting one but I will probably wait for a while and only buy the nintendo games if I cannot live without them (aka pokemon, animal crossing, zeldas..).
Paying 80 bucks for a digital game is just not for me, even 90 for physical is way too expensive, with that money I could pay for groceries, books o just cheaper indie games (maybe even all of them for the price of one nintendo game, ha).

after the reveal of the prices i'm not sure if i'll buy a switch 2 for a long while lol..... i'll probably give it a few years and maybe buy a second hand or something cause right now, it's really hard to justify the price. on top of that, the games are going to be crazy expensive
too. classic greedy nintendo. i shouldn't be surprised.

Absolutely not. I have never bought a console that early because I am too poor to do that. I'm actually worried I won't be able to get this one at all considering the prices and the current state of the economy here.
I'm just glad I didn't see a Splatoon game because I'd really feel like I am missing out.
Splatoon's 10th anniversary is before the Switch 2 releases so I am still a little worried about that lol

I will pre-order it as soon as it becomes available (and pick it up the day it's released)! I would love a special edition Switch 2, like the AC special edition Switch, but I'd rather get a regular Switch 2 sooner than a special edition later.

I pre-ordered my Switch 2 this morning! 🎉 While I don't imagine it would be out of stock on launch day, pre-ordering just makes it more hassle-free (already paid for, the whole order is already packed together, etc.). I ended up buying the Switch 2 console alone, then the physical copy of Mario Kart World (because I'd prefer to have the cartridge), and then an SD card.

I don't have any plans to get the camera, and I won't get a Pro Controller, since I'd like to do what I did with the Switch and get coloured controllers when they're inevitably released. I'll probably get the Charging Grip at some point (I feel like I should have bought it with the above, but oh well)!

I was very hyped during the direct, but after the price reveal i think I'll hold off untill some more games come out and early issues are fixed.
I think its insane that one game costs almost 2 weeks of groceries... but we all now I will get Animal Crossing 6 anyway, even if its a 100 bucks, if it ever comes out.

I think that so many people will love Switch 2 and I am so happy for them, I am definitely going to keep up with the news but I don't really see myself purchasing one for a while. I feel like while the price is expensive, if its a good product that makes since. I was so disappointed in alot of aspects with the Switch 1, ACNH, and Splatoon 3 that... I really need Nintendo to convince me its worth it.

Plus, I don't know but I just have been enjoying all my old games so much now that I don't see a need for any more new games for a long while!

I am thinking about it. The Switch 2 is superior to the Switch 1 in every single way. The fact that you can play Switch 1 games on it is makes it more probable for me to buy one. I've been trying to limit myself from buying new games anyway unless they are on promotion.

It's not within affordablity for me to own one personally. My family will probably get the new switch console though.

Gaming is expensive.

I get my fix from older games on the digital library on the PS4. I don't play many new games unless it's something that seriously interests me. Such as Persona 3 Reload.

I can’t preorder in my country yet but I’m hoping to once they open up. I feel the same way as you. I want Mario Kart but not digitally. The bundle is definitely cheaper than buying them separately which is annoying but it’s not enough to make me buy it, so separately it is.

I don’t plan on buying the camera either. A pro controller is a must have for me, but it’s been confirmed that Switch 1 Pro controllers are compatible with Switch 2, so I’ll just use my special edition pro controller I already have so it saves me from having to buy a new one which is nice.

I didn't plan on buying the Switch 2 within the first year at all, however after seeing the crazy prices of the games, I think I'm either going to wait until I find a second-hand Switch 2 + games or just completely skip it.

I don't think the graphical improvements are going to be vast enough to consider dropping £400 on a new console and 70 quid per game. Sure it knocks out 4k docked, but 1080p handheld (which is what id be using most of the time) really doesn't tempt me.

For the novelty of being a "day one owner" probably won't be happening for me this time. I won't lose sleep over it.

Nah. The only game that interests me is Tomodachi Life, which isn't coming out until 2026 anyways. It'd be nice to play TotK with better framerate (I definitely noticed the lag when playing), but it won't be a big enough incentive to sink my money into a brand-new console at launch.
