"Can't Afford the Vet, Don't Get the Pet"... thoughts?

I think where you live, the economy, and the cultural norms there play a significant role in how people think about responsible pet ownership.

Yes, there are some places such as Spain and countries in Asia that do not take good care of dogs, cats or other animals. What other countries and cultures see as "normal" and okay, we may find extremely disrespectful and disgusting. It is important to take in other countries' cultures and their social norms, as what other countries may want to be banned or changed might be a regular thing for them.

It is the same with other economies and 'progression' (I don't know if that's the right term, but there are some countries that lack any facilities or money for veterinary care). While some places like the UK, Australia, the US and a few other European countries, others may not have that.
 
Maybe one day we'll be able to have a civil discussion where insults aren't throw around left right and centre.
