For any here that is a Castlevania fan or has played the games - Do you prefer the classic action-adventure-platformer style Castlevania games, like the NES games, Super Castlevania IV, Rhondo of Blood, or Bloodlines, or do you prefer the Metroid-esque labyrinth-style Castlevania games, like Symphony of the Night, the GBA and DS games, or if you count spiritual successors, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?
For me personally, I used to prefer the Metroidvania style, but now that I think about it, I tend to have more fun with the Classicvania style, at least with the easier ones like IV and Bloodlines. The Metroidvania ones are still great, but they are certainly long and take up a lot more time, and traversing every nook and cranny to fill in the map can sometimes be a chore - I honestly somewhat prefer the shorter and smaller Metroidvania games like Shantae. But either way, both styles are great, and Castlevania as a whole series is honestly possibly my favorite game series of all time, rivaled only by Shenmue, Banjo Kazooie, and Donkey Kong.

I’ve only played Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow (the 2-pack GBA), and Dawn of Sorrow (DS). I guess those would be Metroidvania.

Personally, I find them fun. I beat two out of the three (Not HoD…yet.) I know some people hate HoD for the music and graphics, but I like the retro vibe. I mean…that’s why I wanted that game in the first place lol.

Being a HUGE Metroid fan as well, I tend to prefer the Metroidvania style...however I do like the classic style too!
