Also, would it be as successful as the last two entries and have as much content as New Leaf?

I think we will get an AC game on the Switch 2, but I don’t think it’ll be a launch title or even within the first year of release. I think they’ll devote that time to the more popular titles like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon.

I definitely think we’ll see one, especially as Splatoon 2 has now stopped updating and the team that deals with Splatoon is also the team that largely worked on ACNH. So with Splatoon now finished it frees them up for a new AC game.

I do worry that the next AC game won’t be brilliant though, purely because in my opinion NH’s wasn’t great and yet it sold so well. I think Nintendo will probably continue transforming it into a decorating sims with a small amount of life sim, so I’m not looking forward to that.

I do hope we’ll get a remake of New Leaf at some point. It’s a brilliant game and would benefit so much from the updated graphics and a couple of tweaks to the gameplay. So maybe Nintendo will focus on that first, seeing as it’ll probably be less work and sell pretty well.

Considering the sales on Switch and it being on every device other than Wii U since GameCube, 100%.

However, I agree with Hsn97 that I don’t think it’ll be launch title. I think they’ll focus on something “flashier” and save AC for a later reveal.

It's guaranteed to happen. Given the usual time frame (New Horizons being an anomaly due to the Wii U's failure), I'd expect a new Animal Crossing game in early 2026 if the console is coming out in early 2025.

While I'd love for it to be a launch title or a first year release, and it's not impossible (Animal Forest+ came out the same year as the GCN), Animal Crossing has usually been a game the releases a year after launch.

It’s definitely going to happen, but I’m not sure how soon. I doubt it would be a launch title, but I feel like a year or two after the new console launches is realistic timing.

Probably not a launch title like some people online are saying but it's definitely likely, AC is a lot like Mario Kart where 1 new game releases on each new system. Yes, AC did skip Wii U, but I guess if we're counting spinoffs then amiibo Festival technically counts even if its just a spinoff.

I don't really see chances for a full Animal Crossing game on the Nintendo Switch 2, given the fact that New Horizons already exists on the Nintendo Switch, even if it sold well.

I have a feeling that they may release a spin-off instead of a full game, like how they released Amiibo Festival on the Wii U instead of launching an actual Animal Crossing game, but I can also see them not making a spin-off at all, considering the failure of Amiibo Festival and the Wii U in general.

I mean, just because the Switch 2 could be backwards compatible doesn't mean we aren't gonna get a new game, the 3DS was backwards compatible with the original DS and it still got it's own mainline AC game. The only reason there wasn't a mainline game on Wii U was because the system was a massive flop and it was easier to make a lower budget spinoff than a brand new game.

100% chance.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like NH, but I’m expecting that the new installment will easily surpass it in the entertainment department.

Not sure it’ll touch NL though, that bar is pretty high.

By this logic, there was no reason for Animal Crossing e+, since Animal Forest+ already existed on the Gamecube. Or New Leaf since the DS had Wild World and the 3DS could play it...

The Switch 2, even if it looks like the Switch, will be a new system. Even if it's backwards compatible, there's no reason not to make a new Animal Crossing game.

almost a guarantee, unless the switch successor goes the wii u route, in terms of sales

though I feel like (read: hope) nintendo's since learned their lesson there

Oh for sure, but I can’t see it happening quickly. I’d give it at least a couple of years after the release

I think we'll get an animal crossing game on the new console.
Anything beyond that, I'm not sure. I do think it will be popular, but I don't know about how much or what kind of content it'll have. I think Nintendo will try to strategically release the game though. Maybe near the holidays or during a time sales are low for one reason or another. I don't think it'll be a launch game.

I'd be really surprised if they didn't make an Animal Crossing game for the new console. Although I'm not sure when it would be released. I don't expect it to be a launch title. As for your question about how successful it would be, I do think it would be successful, but I don't know how that success would compare to New Leaf and New Horizons

Absolutely there will be one, it's would be really dumb of nintendo to not release one. With how good nh did they are probably putting in a lot of extra work into it, at least more than they normally would

There absolutely will be a new AC title, I am just seriously hoping that there's more differences between NH and it than Wild World and City Folk. I hope with the updated RAM capabilities of the new switch they're able to bring back mini-games and maybe add some new ones too, and maybe spend a little time to give the villagers more distinctions in dialogue and personality.

Yes, I definitely think there will be a new title. Whether it will feel meaningfully different enough to entice the core fan base…..that I’m not so sure about. As others have said, I’m expecting to wait a year or so after launch, but I’m okay with that if it means we get something truly creative. New Horizons was fun but it lacked longevity for most players. I really hope Nintendo is able to integrate concepts from a variety of previous titles to improve the next.

I will also be extremely disappointed if they re-release an old game instead. New Leaf isn’t some vintage Super Nintendo title that many people can no longer access. I already put hundreds of hours into that game in fairly recent memory—I want to experience something entirely new!

Absolutely happening, and absolutely happening at some point in the next couple of years (if not next year, going by #patterns)

In terms of if it'll have as much content as NL... I'm not sure? There's good reasons as to why NH scaled down, from "if the scope of the game is too big there's no way it's going to come out at a good time", to "the director of both NL and NH thought that NL was too geared towards pre-existing fans of the series, and wanted to make something more geared towards newcomers", to "NL and NH, while both more geared towards customisation than the games that came before them, have different core concepts that everything's built around, and therefore have different needs in terms of features". We ultimately don't know what the next game's going to be, what idea it's going to be built around or who exactly it's geared towards.

also feel like if they're going to remake or rerelease another game in the series it's going to be after the main new game in the series... and given a good portion of it is built around 3DS features specifically (the Streetpass house area, fortune cookies) I'd be surprised if it was NL.

I'm pretty sure there'll be a new AC with the new switch. I am curious to see which direction it'll go in to keep it feeling like an AC game, yet be interesting enough for people to want to buy it. I hope it doesn't go even more into the "faming sim" direction though. If I wanna cook and grow stuff there's already hundreds of games that do just that.
