I mean I don't honestly care about this and don't really pay attention to it, but would totally be down with picking the star shape.

When I played ACHHD you can choose the shape of the puffs by tapping on the chimney. I'm sure I'm remembering that correctly... Might have to get back into the game to double check (;^_^A
I think purchasing different chimney styles is a great idea! Although, If the shapes were locked to a chimney style the customisation would be limited for me (๑?o?๑)
So maybe if when you're purchasing a chimney, you're asked a question about what shape puffs you'd like, it can come together as a package! (? ꈊ ?)✧︎˖?ｵﾎｯ!
It seems to be the same size, it possibly looks bigger due to the upgrade in quality and the angle that the camera is at.
That would be great, like after a while of living there (maybe a week or 2?) they asked you if they should upgrade their home, i mean they are in debt to nook this time around, so the possibly is there!
Aahh, we seriously need a direct soon or the fandom is going to go more nuts then they already have.

Ok I just opened HHD and chose some at random to remodel their house and no, you can't change the puffs... They're set to the characters choice. I don't know why I had a false memory of that!

It would be fun to choose something different, but would you really know? Chimney smoke was an indication that the villager was in their house, so your chimney would (presumably) smoke, but stop when you go outside.

When my sister came to visit me and I, her, there was no chimney smoke coming from my house or hers... This was upsetting because I was in my house ｡ﾟ( ﾟஇ‸இﾟ+)ﾟ｡

I haven't played AC Happy Home in forever, but isn't that where chimney smoke shapes originated from? I remember seeing it somewhere. It's cute, and I wouldn't mind if were implemented into New Horizons, even if smoke shapes don't affect the game other than aesthetically.

It started with NL and they kept it in HHD but it's such a small yet cute and charming detail!
It just reflects the villagers personality more! And what's so great about it, is that multiple personalities may have the same puff shapes! Like a cranky might have a star puff like a peppy and it's just so cute! ꒰ ๑͒˃̶ ̫ ˂̶๑͒꒱

I must've been entirely focused on gathering bells or whatever to not notice (that and I hardly see villagers inside their homes in my game). The reason Happy Home stuck with me more is probably because my attention was more focused on exterior decoration. Totally agree on it adding a cute charm to villagers' home.

That is strange and I'd like to add to that! So, in HHD, depending on house shape, which alters the roof style, the chimney disappears with certain models. This disappoints me. ( ?◔︎ ‸◔︎`)
They should have an optional chimney, not decide for us which style it should be allowed with.
