Each item has a description of what it does so I really am not sure what you mean by this (and if someone is confused they generally make a post in this board or that "ask questions about the site" thread, at least from what I've seen). I spent a bunch of my shells on a bigger mailbox just because I'd already bought the avatar extensions years ago and didn't want a username change. P:

I can understand your viewpoint but don't you think it's a bit biased? You have prior knowledge and had been around before they were this expensive. Two years is still too long of a wait for people who may have bought the wrong thing by accident or just thought something was worth owning without asking first

nah their prices are fine (aside from groups but who cares about those), plus with ac switch coming out it'll probably become easier to rack up tbt

Eaiser in what way? I think we're forgetting that most of these extensions cost around 1k TBT. I'm dumbfounded that anyone could say that's "fine". As I said above, we might as well consider them as rare collectibles. (Especially having a group one )

I really don't know man. I'm honestly beginning to think someone over at the admin side changed the prices and thought that changing them back would look bad. Honestly, if groups are gonna be 42k, they should just be removed completely. Heck why stop there, why not remove all account extensions.

Four years ago, they raised it to 42,000 TBT for a reason. The feature has always been intended to be that expensive, and the increase of TBT Bells lead it to its price hike. But due to changes in community trends (such as a decrease of TBT Bells in circulation, people choosing Discord more, and the fact that groups don?t have much), it should not be worth that much.

That's not my viewpoint.. it's just a fact that the descriptions are all there in the shop lol
I'm pretty sure the prices of this stuff hasn't changed either (except the groups obviously) from when I first joined, unless I'm remembering wrong.. Definitely threw down that $$$ for the animated avatar. I get what you're saying but this is just not a common complaint I see from new members - they usually stick around for awhile before they start getting interested in extensions for their account.

more activity = more threads being made = more initiative to post = more tbt. considering people have and continue to buy name changes i think its fair to say its fine lol.

also like sorry but i'm not gonna fault the staff for people "accidentally" buying extensions or not putting research into it, that's entirely on the user. if you've had the time to collect 1000+ bells then you've had the time to figure out what each extension does and which ones are worth it.

Which only proves my point more. The staff clearly didn't foresee a decrease in the community :p

Not many do complain which is probably why the mods haven't really done anything yet. I can't exactly make people care if they don't want to :p

I was leaning more towards wasting shells but I guess it works both ways. I'm also not blaming the mods, I am just saying that there should be more ways for the new user to obtain these.

Oh and thanks for the explanation! As I've said above, the staff clearly didn't think the activity here would die at this rate. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if more people decide to show up.

I’m going to have to agree with Vaati that the prices for account extensions need to be lowered. I came back from a three year hiatus a year ago, and didn’t realize how much the community had decreased in size. Well, it’s safe to say that it took me much longer than I would have liked to gather the TBT necessary to purchase an avatar animation and avatar width extension, because not as many threads are being posted and therefore there’s not as much incentive to post. It would have been a lot faster for me getting those extensions from the shop had the community still been fairly large, giving me the chance to save up faster, but since it wasn’t, I thought it was kind of a nuisance that the extensions were priced that much, and now when carefully considering it, I definitely think they should be lowered, even if it’s just somewhat lowering each price. I’m not complaining here about having had to earn them, because I did it fair and square. Just saying that the reasoning for lowering the prices over not lowering the prices, right now, makes logical sense. When AC Switch come out and more people are here, as well as more threads being posted, it wouldn’t make as much sense to, but right now it does.

I am just glad that I got myself all these things before the community died. I feel sorry for anyone new nowadays tho

A quick sentence or two from Justin would of been nice but I guess he is too busy to explain. Oh well...

He didnt exactly say no and we're still the majority. Atleast we now know who the oppressors secretly are :p

There's nothing really to explain, is there? Of course some users would like the price of something to go down. It's not really much different than a thread titled "Petition to triple bell earn rate". Not much for me to say about it.

Some context on the group add-on though because I feel like there may be some misinformation going around -- it used to be 4200 Bells when the shop opened and intended to be extremely expensive requiring a large group pool of bells to afford it. You know, because it's a group add-on. Soon that became a very cheap add-on with inflation and increase of users over time, and the ones that were in stock in the store sold out. We left it un-stocked for a long time at this point because A) it was way too cheap now and we don't want there to be a mass of un-used groups B) in my opinion at least, the groups aren't really that useful to begin with. (as has been said in this conversation already)

Eventually we had a massive 'petition' thread like this one with over 250 posts, so we added a zero to the price making it 42000 as a sort-of joke and finally re-stocked some for those who really wanted them that badly. A few people did buy them who were the ones who wanted them so badly, and then nobody else did ever again.

Even with today's bell economy, I honestly think the price is fine for its intended purpose. If you can actually get 42 people to commit 1000 Bells to a group that they really want to exist and participate in, then you're golden. If you can't do that, then there probably isn't enough activity or desire for that group anyway. We already have plenty of graveyard groups and we certainly don't need anymore of them.

That being said... there are no plans to adjust any of the prices at this time. I'm not sure where this idea that the items don't have descriptions came from and none of the expensive items are essential to use the forum. You can save up for them as a perk if you really want them, or just don't have them if you'd prefer to spend your TBT on other things. Not to mention Seashells are a thing.

considering how often i've seen "what are seashells?" i don't really think it's of concern personally. though if they do waste them it could be a worthwhile lesson.

i'm not entirely anti lowering prices i just don't think it's necessary or something staff should be worrying about. there was an activity spike when new leaf was announced and if i remember right even when pocket camp released. in the discord at least there's even been more newbies popping up just since ac switch was teased so i think it's a fair assumption to say that more users will join as we get more switch info and of course whenever the game is eventually released.

I'll admit, I didn't realize that whole thing about the seashells but that doesn't change my mind. You gotta admit two years is way too long. New players have no idea what exactly each thing does. Might as well put it in big red words that things like the mailboxes are a waste of shells.

Considering you get 1 for free, I think the price is fine. If you're smart you would use the seashells to buy the more costly one so you wouldn't have to fork out TBT.

I'm sure if new members are unsure of what each thing does they can use their innitiative and make a thread in this subforum or contact the Staff and ask for help. The descriptions are pretty self-explainatory though so I don't understand how their could be confusion. And before you say that because of my length of time here that I would understand what each thing does, you're asked if you want to upload an avatar or use a default one when you make your account. You should get an idea of what an avatar is and what it means to increase the width limit or allow the use of an animated avatar.

Thanks Justin for giving a response! I realize you're probably really busy so I am glad you took the time to set things straight.

I wont say any more if you guys are set on not changing anything.

Thanks for the information about groups. Now I was one of the few members that wanted it badly, as it was something I wanted to do from the very beginning of my membership. So when they got restocked, that gave me an opportunity to start collecting donations for a group, which nobody wanted to do because of the feature.

Maybe...since I recently blogged about everyone who won a site event, I should start a group that invites everyone who won a contest or event on this site. It’s not just a perk for those who won a contest, but it’s also a good way to keep track of whoever won a contest.

Just wondering, what do you want the group to be? We could try Justin's suggestion and gather 42 people xD

Last month, I written a series of blog entries that brought up the names of everyone that won a site contest or some other event collectible (like the Pink Candy or Crescent Moon Glow Wand). I?ll start another recruitment thread, and if it fails, that?s it. I?m done for good. I failed with the Apple Empire (which wouldn?t work anyway), Creative Ideas Group, and Nintendo Switch Lounge. This one would be more interesting.

No offense but I cant say I really care all too much about that. We need a group on a broader subject. like maybe "anime watchers" or something similar.

I wish you luck though!

While we're on the subject, is allowing lots of groups really "that" detrimental?
It was way too cheap now and we don't want there to be a mass of un-used groups

I wouldn’t want to change anything there. It all seems a fair price to me.

Also the fact that the group costs 42k is to avoid spam groups/groups that would be quite idiotic I would say.
I’m still surprised nobody bought two of those yet.
