Clutter?!?!?!?

I could just scream!

So clutter on your island! I’ve been working a lot on my island to reach 5 star status. I’m removing a lot of unwanted cluttered areas of my island.
I’ve also done a lot of research in n what makes a five star island a five star island.
Aside from wiping my island and redoing it in pieces and parts and talking to Isabelle
Does anyone have any good feedback on the matter? I have a couple nice big flower patches is that clutter?

Maybe you have something decorated that is seen as clutter. Like for example I know someone at launch had made a crafting station with materials placed on tables. Both as decoration and so people could come by, grab some materials, and craft. They mentioned that Isabelle found it as clutter/trash and their rating went up after getting rid of their crafting station idea. Sadly the rating system is a little flawed.

I know if you have alot of items close together, that can be seen as clutter by Isabelle. An example is that one time I had flowering shrubs on the edge of a cliff with another cliff on top. The shrubs for whatever reason was seen as clutter and an obstacle for villagers. I also had the same complaint about an outdoor library I had that had a few items a tad too close together.
Flowers should be fine though. You can walk through flowers, unlike shrubs, and I think they actually raise your rating.

Also if you have alot of dropped items and crafting materials, you can get complaints of it being clutter or trash. I wish if you had stuff like that on a table or something that it didn't count because I like to have stacks of bait out on a stall tbh.

I have just been carrying a bin with me in my pockets so when I am working on a new area or re designing an old one I just place my bin from my inventory. Then just chuck all of it in the bin and if I need anything again that I have already thrown away I just order it again from the catalouge.

That’s a neat idea. I’ve been using the pipes to transport back and forth from wherever back to books.
I know this is a fine line I’m seeing with reaching this 5 star

When she says cluttered does she mean with trash or with furniture? i don’t remember how the conversation goes and once i hit five stars i’ve never talked to her after that so i don’t remember if clutter pertains to trash or furniture or just dropped furniture that hasn’t actually been placed..

All of the above. She means trash items, but also dropped items, or dropped supplies. Placed furniture won’t count as trash.
