While most of us are looking forward to New Horizons, it can be difficult not to have some doubts or disappointments along with all the excitement.
Maybe you're not too keen on a new mechanic, or don't like the look of something. Maybe you're waiting to hear about the inclusion of a thing you care about, and the lack of information is starting to get to you:

Whatever it is—here's the place to share any complaints or concerns you might have about the new game!

The idea is to have somewhere to vent without worry of bringing down the hype. Feel free to share any negative thoughts about NH, no matter how minor or silly—whether you hate the whole Island location or just the design of the apples, are worried they'll get rid of mini-games or just cut your favorite villager.

(try to hold back from telling others their opinions are wrong or worries unnecessary—unless you know of an official statement that eliminates the concern, of course)

Here's mine so far:

✦ It's making me uneasy that we still have yet to see regular and cedar trees planted in the same area. I'm hoping for increased freedom (palm trees on the grass, please!), not more limitations.

✦ Since we know that the buildings/services unlocked depend on our progress of the Island, I'm worried that we'll be forced into unwanted development because things we want are locked behind things we don't want to build. I'm fine with the concept in general, but I really hope we'll have access to the majority of buildings and services while still preserving a natural/wild look in some areas.

I'm concerned (okay this is weird) about the 8 people thing. Hope everyone's internet is good since I like being on Club Tortimer. (well sometimes...)

These are legit concerns, Fey. Good thinking.
  • I'm concerned about the size of the map. I still feel it's too small.
  • I'm also concerned that not enough new features will be introduced in this new iteration of Animal Crossing. Crafting is good, but it's not enough.
  • I'm concerned that interactions with villagers will not be as complex as I'd like it to be. I don't need 3000 sets of wooden furniture if my villagers are empty zombies wandering around aimlessly all day.

This could be annoying, but if you can enter and leave towns without going through a huge save process, it might not be as big of a deal. Imagine the ACNL town entering time for 7 people when you're having a party. It'd take 10 minutes for everyone to get in.

Some of my concerns is the size of the map and whether or not where the shops will go. When I looked at the map at the E3, it looked kinda small and I don't know for sure if the shops can be placed anywhere or if it's in a certain area. I'm also concerned how many villagers will be in town too. I feel it might get a bit cramped. :/

Also, another worry of mine would be if they cut out some of the face style choices for the characters we play as to make room for the new ones, which they did confirm there would be new ones. Even the old hairstyles I'm a little worried about being cut out too. There's one particular hairstyle I really love from New Leaf and I've yet to see it. Hopefully they didn't.

That's all I can think of for now, but if I have any other concerns, I'll be sure to post here. :)

I actually have a lot of fears, I’m really scared that the hideous pockets menu and phone screen is in the real game and I hope that it looks more like new leaf’s. I’d also be super horrified if villagers were still as repetitive and robotic as they were in new leaf. I really just hope that they’re more human-like and realistic in their speech. And that they don’t say the same things all the time and that friendship is more developed. AND (I’m getting really annoying again aren’t I...) that The villager cap is raised to 10 to maybe 12 or 15. I hope that the island feels like a real community again, I hate that the special characters never go outside their shops in places other than the roost. I hope they get lunch breaks and take strolls out on the island. I want to chat with them and have friendships with them just like the villagers! I hope that they close their shops for an hour or two on holidays. I really just want the island to feel real. I’m also scared that diving and diving suits won’t return. I don’t really like swimming in new leaf, but I hope they just revamp it instead of trashing a pretty big NL feature. And finally (for this post) that birch trees and other new and Pocket camp trees are in new horizons. Hopefully I didn’t sound annoying or needy, I just really wanna see this game be good! (^ω^)

I decided to just put the quotes behind spoilers to keep it from being too cluttered. There are a lot of concerns and hopes in there that I share, especially when it comes to the Villagers!
My hopes were on this next installment really developing the Animals and going much deeper in terms of our relationship and interactions with them. I tend to be an optimist, but after seeing the trailers and gameplay so far, I can't deny that I've just started accepting that the social aspect will not get much attention. There's still time left to be pleasantly surprised, but the game's hook seems to pretty solidly be the crafting mechanic and on socializing with other players.

I strongly agree with all three of your points! Like you and others here have said, the map size looks disappointing on first glance. It unfortunately seems like the game will emphasize features I'm more ambivalent about (like crafting, multiplayer) instead of what I was hoping for (focus on town life and villagers).

It might be small comparatively, but if it's a face/hairstyle you're attached to I definitely understand. For curiosity's sake, which ones are you talking about? I hope they're included, just like all the other previous ones.

I actually have a lot of fears, I?m really scared that the hideous pockets menu and phone screen is in the real game and I hope that it looks more like new leaf?s. Not annoying at all?that's exactly what I made the thread for!
People are sometimes sensitive about complaining, but it's just not realistic or fair to expect others to just stay silent about their negative impressions. We can both like and dislike aspects of something, worry about things but still be optimistic.

I feel similarly about the menus?they seem uninspired to me and lack the charm of New Leaf's. It might be minor, but small things like that contributed to my overall impression of the focus being shifted much more in the direction of practical mechanics over the welcoming, whimsical aspects of the game.

My biggest concern right now is map size. Part of the problem I had with New Leaf was that towns were small and I felt that I could never fully achieve what I wanted for my town.

Other things I have concerns about is villagers decorating their houses. I hate when they bought stupid stuff at Re-Tail so I had to fill it with flowers to prevent that. I would also like them to get rid of the cedar trees need to be in the northern part of town rule…this is an island after all. And of course, villager limit. I would like them to finally return to the original 15 villager limit from the GameCube days, but only if the town is appropriately sized. And like most people have said, shop location has me worried too.

I have quiet a far few concerns being:

-Number one: that there won’t be any or much increase in the map size, a bigger map is something that I have been REALLY excited about but after seeing the videos we have received and a lot of speculation from people, it is a possibility it is going to be much smaller than anticipated which would just break my heart

-Number two: that there won’t be any increase in how many villagers we are allowed in our islands! Villagers are one of the biggest, if not the biggest draw factor for me: they are super adorable animals with quirky designs and personalities (what drew me to the game in the first place) and if we have a small map then the likely hood of having more than 10 villagers are slim :(

-Number three: A game of chores rather than chill time. One of my problems with pocket camp is that literally everything/ anything you do is a chore. Even simply talking and being friends with your villagers is a chore. With what has been shown in the trailer I am scared that everything we do is going to be work for example: collecting weeds means that you can craft something. I don’t want every aspect of the game like simply pulling out a weed to be about accumulating X amount of whatever in order to craft the best thing.

I have a lot of other concerns but that’s enough typing from me today :)

I’m worried it will be a literal Switch port of Pocket Camp. I’m hoping it won’t be the equivalent of what Pok?mon Let’s Go is to the console Pok?mon games. Nintendo has gone new directions with their biggest games since the Switch came out and for some it’s been so amazing and for some it’s been... okay at best. My biggest hopes are probably for a bigger map, to allow more villagers, and for it to not be so.. tedious like Pocket Camp where everything depends on timing and requests. A mix of all current ACs.. chef’s kiss. I can only hope.

I'm concerned that the map is going to be too small.

I've played every mainline game for Animal Crossing, so I am not concerned about anything else. So long as nothing is worse than New Leaf, which I guarantee is impossible.

These are my concerns: I'm concerned about the safety of my save file, the 8 people multiplayer (for me, there is too many people so can we play with 4 or 5 people only max ?), the map (too small for me and we only saw one map for now), the role of amiibo cards in that game (I hope that I can call a villager to move in), the missing NPCs (just want to know if they will be all there in the game)...in fact, I have too many questions in my mind, I need an AC direct soon ...please Nintendo ^^

After thinking about it for a while, there are some concerns I have:

1) Town map and layouts
So far, we only got a look of how the map may looks back in the Treehouse presentation, but not
really any other information about size and so on. My concern about is how big the island will be
at the end. I just hope it's maybe big enough for obtaining more than 10 villagers and also having
enough space for outdoor items and such. Besides, I also hope for some good looking layouts, as
New Leaf only had honestly an handful of layouts I actually liked.

2) Shops, buildings and their placement
While I don't have a problem to unlock the shops and buildings, I'm kinda worried of how long
it will took to unlock them all (or at least the important ones) as well as what kind of conditions
you will need to build them. Next to this I also have concerns about the placement, like where
they will end up getting build. I honestly would hate it if they getting build on another island
and you have to travel all the time back and forth if you want to check out the shops. I mean,
if at least the standard shops and buildings such as the shops of the Nook family and the Able
Sisters as well as the town hall for example being on your main island while "special shops/
buildings" such as Gracie's or the Dream Suite being on a separate island then I don't have
a problem with it. I hope something like the Main Street comes back.

3) Online mode with 8 players
Okay, the feature of up to 8 players playing together at the same online sounds pretty neat,
but what happens if someone has a faulty internet connection? More importantly, how good
will the game handle this in that time, like could it happen that the game gets slow down
(FPS drop) or other errors? I just noticed how bad it can be playing with other people who
have a bad internet connection in Super Kirby Clash, the whole game gets so slow, the
characters moving in slow motion, almost freezing... I just don't want this to happen in
New Horizons to be honest.

4) Unlocking bridges
Nothing against the idea with yeet yourself to the other site of the island with a pole, I just
hope it will not take so long till you can build bridges, as lazy me prefers more the use of
those after a while.

5) The freedom of placing certain types of trees everywhere
To be more specific: Being able to plant cedar trees everywhere and not just in the north
half of your island. I know this is maybe more a personal concern, but I hope they finally
remove that dumb rule.

I may forgot an point or so, but these are the ones that came up in my mind so far. Can't
wait for more information about the game to may clean up some concerns.

One small concern of mine, and please let me know if this has already been proven needless, is naming the island. First of all, do we even know the island can be named? Second, is it the town we're building, or the island itself that is being named? That actually makes a difference in my mind.

It might be small comparatively, but if it's a face/hairstyle you're attached to I definitely understand. For curiosity's sake, which ones are you talking about? I hope they're included, just like all the other previous ones.

Ah, thank you so much for asking. The ones I'm talking about are the ones with the bangs, like the pigtail one with bangs, which is one I haven't seen yet. The other main one I was talking about is the one that is shoulder length with the bangs. I much prefer my hairstyle being down and having the bangs and not pulled up and I like having the same hairstyle on my character. I base my character off of myself quite a bit in many of my games, so you know, same hairstyle, hair color, eye color, etc. etc. It's just really fun for me doing that because then I feel even more close with the game and it's like I'm actually there in it. :)

My concern is the map size with 8 players sharing one island.
There will be 18 houses if they go with 10 villagers.
Do the trees get restocked with fruit for the next player playing? If it plays like ACNL the first player could clean out the island leaving the rest with nothing.

Another is online game play.
With ACNL some players opened their towns while they were AFTK. With the switch it goes into sleep mode after not been played for awhile. I found this out when visiting my other switch Farm Together game. It went dark and when I opened it I had to log back in. The connection got cut.
So far I've had good luck when playing Farm Together and trading pokemon with other players. Never lost connection.

You can actually turn off sleep mode in System Settings. Just go into there and go where Sleep Mode is and it will say for both the console in handheld mode and TV mode and you can choose to turn it off both to where it says "never" and then your games won't go into sleep mode ever again. :)

Thank you so much. The last few nights I've been visiting for a boast and it was a pain babysitting the other console.

I don't like how far it's strays from its usual form. Every iteration so far, discluding amiibo festival, has always been virtually the same with minor changes some good, some bad. NH however seems completely different. While the games are rather notorious for being repetative, so this seems like a good direction, I'm just concerned for how much change in that direction there really is.

i know we aren't supposed to tell anyone that they're wrong but i just have to point out something haha
pokemon lets go was specifically (as said so by creators) made for entry-level pokemon players and people new to the switch. it's also a remake of the first generations. so i don't think that it'll be anything like that hehe. and as far as pocket camp goes, there's no direct connectivity (said by animal crossing devs) and the main focus is not to collect items and complete tasks, so this isn't something im worried about.

as for this one, i think it'll be pretty much the same as all the other main titles. i see the concern, and i would hate it if it strayed from the main ideal of animal crossing, but from everything we've seen so far, we get to control our town, interact with our villagers, and make it our own - basically like the other games. there's no gimmicks that make it too different (even if you think of crafting, its a new feature that you don't even have to use) and so it will be repetitive, but also with a breath of fresh air.
