Comments & Thoughts on Terraforming

I think it's really cool, I know for a fact I'll probably spend hours designing and changing the landscape multiple times.

i had a similar thought about the limitations. i'm going to reset for a map i like just in case we can't make certain changes. i'd rather had a small river that i can add to instead of a huge river that can't be changed as much

Has it actually been confirmed that the river exit points can?t be changed/deleted? The Direct didn?t necessarily give me that impression, but people keep talking about it like fact.

Nothing confirmed one way or the other.

I wonder if we will be able to make caves/tunnels through the 2nd tier:

And how close can we place the inclines to each other, would we be able to do something like this with strategic terraforming?

I’d like to make a shopping plaza in the center of town on 2 different levels, with the river running through it, and something like this to go from one level to the next, and bridges to cross the river:

I hope the spacing limitations aren’t as strict as NL.

I've been having these same ideas and thoughts. I hope it isnt too restrictive this time around like in NL
Edit; these are beautiful drawings btw!!

Considering that we can literally put our homes on the edge of a river, there?s hope for us yet

As much as I think we'll get a lot of freedom, I can't see them letting us make tunnels, unfortunately. The rest? Very likely possible.

I just rewatched some footage and it looks like the player is as tall as the cliff, taller if they have a hat on. So yeah, tunnels probably won’t be a thing :(

One thing you missed, I think, is the possibility of two-wide ramps (side by side). That's one thing I hope we can do. Though, the world wouldn't end if we couldn't.

That’d be cool too. It’d make a fancy entrance to the museum.

Well, one of my questions have been answered. You can build inclines right next to the river :D

It also looks like you can make the waterfall wider than the river.

I saw footage where two tier waterfalls was shown very briefly. It's in one of the videos with no music, but the tiers don't align I believe. Still, the waterfall can drop from tier 3 to 1 in a way.

Such a great addition that probably no one ever thought would happen. I saw another post on here were a user already planned out their entire map and it's amazing how much you can change with these little changes. Just being able to change rivers into whatever shape you like is amazing, I remember rivers being my biggest cause of frustration in New Leaf.

I also saw this old New Leaf post online that actually predicted it which seems worth sharing:

Terraforming will be so useful, but I'm much more excited about the paths and everything involving landscaping. The islands Nintendo showcased in the Direct looked so good and some like actual cities, I love it!

I have had a little practice with Terraforming and it's actually pretty fun! Making a really unique island sounds really neat and I will probably watch a lot of YouTube videos of other people's islands to get some ideas, as I'm not too good coming up with my own, but I'll try. xD

I do like that one idea of a pond on top of that one cliff with a waterfall coming out from it that we saw in the direct though, so I may do that. :)

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but based on what I’ve seen it seems like the edges of layers probably can’t be stacked right on top of each other. Every image I’ve seen shows at least one space between them.

Points like that are why I'll still be resetting for a good map base. Regardless, I'd like to have something to start with that will be easy to manipulate for what I want rather than adjusting it completely from scratch.

I think it'll be a very helpful tool and all a lot of room for us to work with ideas we have. There was nothing more frustrating than making a perfect path only to have it be somewhat off due to the river. So I can see how this will help us fix issues like those but I'm sure there will be limits.
