I know this is an old comment but it's really funny to see people think the lack of skintones in the game is a small deal.
Imagine being a 5 year old kid, you get a game where you think you're going to be able to be yourself in a virtual world and decorate your ideal little world..... but you can't look like yourself in real life at all. What sortof message do you think that would send to a little kid?
ACNL's western release not having skintone selection as a feature at launch was one of the most tone deaf decisions I've ever seen. In homogenous Japan, sure I can understand why the devs don't even think about it, but an american section of said company not having an aneurysm at the notion of pushing out a game wherein they are literally showing 'white is the default'.... that blows my mind.
The absence of skintones is not small, it is enormous.
