I've been playing for about 2 weeks now. I wasn't thinking when I picked the town, but It's taken me until now to see how unsatisfied I am with my town layout.

I have a very windy river and it leaves very little space. I have no open areas, it's all narrow strips of land. Not only does this leave little space for public works, but it's also killing the grass at a record pace, because there's only small areas I, and the villagers can walk through. Even worse is that the only areas that would have been otherwise open. I have ponds dotted around inside. I probably couldn't have picked a worse town if I tried.

My biggest concern is how much I've progressed at this point. I've unlocked the nook upgrade, kick's, museum second floor, surveillance center, garden center. etc... I feel like I would be losing so much. Not to mention my entire encyclopedia.

The ONLY thing I'll miss about my town, is how all the public buildings (town hall, town tree, re-tail, train station.) are all in a row at the northern border of my town, and I like that. But I feel that's hardly worth it to keep going, considering this is a game that will last me for the foreseeable future.

My only boon, is that items aren't an issue. I have a good friend that will hold everything I want to keep, fruit, tools, and all.

But in the end... Is it worth it? Better to start over now, than months later? Right?

I think you've pretty much decided. All the things you're concerned about you can just get over again, town layout included, and it's not like your most major concern are your villagers or items. Losing your encyclopedia kinda sucks but if you've done it once, I'm sure you can do it again no problem.

I think you should just go for it considering you're already thinking about it. Better now than a year down the line.

If you truly hate it, it's gonna bother you forever. So either you could learn to like your town or start over now. All the stuff you unlocked can be unlocked again. And you can complete the encyclopedia again.

A few points:

1. Bells are easier to procure.

2. New residents.

3. Generally, you'll proceed much quicker as the last 2 weeks are still fresh.

4. You can time-travel back for that Bug Contest.

5. Your items are safely stored.

Your town layout is forever- good luck!

I have the same problem, I?m not gonna start over though, I guess I will just take the challenge to make it good.

Btw, can you show us a picture of the layout? it might be very similar to mine lol.

From what I can see, your layout isn't THAT bad. There's still a lot of space in the upper portion and the bottom to the left. However, you're the one playing in the town every day. If you wander around and keep thinking "I hate this," restart. Though I have to ask -- if your layout bothered you so much, how did you manage to make so much progress? To me it seems like you're making it work.

I'm very much a "those are the cards I've been dealt" player, so I was going to make due, but it's been getting progressively worse.

At first it wasn't bad. But the areas you stated are already filled with public works projects, and rocks. Now I'm starting to see how little space there is everywhere else. Plus all the villagers clumped together has pretty much devastated the grass in that area, something I hate.

Yeah I can see what you mean with the villagers...that would annoy me too. :c On the plus side, if you do restart there are a lot of helpful players here that will likely help you out (give you tools, fruit, some bells). Just think of it as a new adventure.

You'll probably find a layout you like SOOOO much better and even get some favorite villagers. :3 The only real downside to restarting is the time factor. There's a lot of waiting to get things up and running. That and your furniture finds...but you'll eventually get that all caught up too. :) Not too much to worry about. Your encyclopedia won't be much of an issue. Spend a couple hours for a few days and your progress there will probably be all caught up.

I actually restarted yesterday due to the fact I grew to hate my layout (Not much room for the projects I wanted without it looking out of place) I was worried about my encyclopedia as it was pretty much finished and also I had a lot of exclusive DLC etc, but after about 4 hours (This game hates me) I found my dream layout, got all my stuff back - Thanks holders!! - and my encyclopedia is pretty full already! :) the only bad bit is all my villagers are hideous monsters but some of them will leave soon enough...
Honestly I would say go for it if you are unhappy with it! It will drive you mad in the long run and it will be easier to do so now than progress onwards and decide later on to do it! x

I guess if you're not happy, you should restart. You'll catch up in no time! :)

I'm kinda having the same problem. My map is fine but it doesn't have the biggest space in the world, and I prefer my the beach to the left and maybe the town hall closer to the train station, I HATE my villagers, none are good and I have square grass. Square isn't bad but I'm a bit nit picky. I don't know. :/

Good luck! :)

I would start over based on the many reasons said above. If it bothers you now, it's going to bother you forever. If you need a place to store your items, I'd be happy to be your storage (I have no trees, there's plenty of space)!

Gosh dang. If you didn't have so many villagers cramped in one place I do not think that you would have as much of a problem. xD

I'm starting over as well and am not happy about having to unlock things again.. However I feel the need to do it. I won't list the things wrong with my town, but I will say I'm not happy starting my game up in such a place every day anymore. It's become clear for me, and apparently for you too. :) you are not alone, quite a few people have done it and will be doing it soon as well. Besides, this time around ill be controlling my move ins so I'm not disgusted with all of my villagers. That alone seems like it would be very rewarding to me.

Nami! No reasons are necessary! Indecision is a terrible trait- please post your new layout, I know this new town will be near perfect! (=

I have restarted 3 times already and the only thing it's done was burn me out. I still have minor issues I hate about my most recent town and I'm almost 2 weeks behind everyone else now even though I got the game at midnight on release. What I learned is that it's never going to be perfect. The best thing to do (in my opinion) is simply stick it out until a save game editor is available and edit the bad parts. But for now work on making what does work better as well as getting the villagers you want.

That's my take on the situation. I wish I would have just stuck with my first town thinking back. With that said, there is absolutely no reason why there can't be a more complex map creation in the next game. This has literally been an issue since the original Animal Crossing.

If everyone had the perfect town, they'd all be the same and pretty boring. The differences between everyone's towns and seeing how they're able to make the most of them is part of the charm and fun of this game. And like other's have said, there will always be *something* not quite *perfect* with each map, but real life doesn't have perfect layouts. People make due and make the most of their surroundings.

Anyway, I think your map is pretty awesome. I think it's great how all your villagers have nestled together in one area.

I think your layout is pretty cool, but if you're unhappy may as well restart now than further down the line.

I say go for it. Every map is gonna feel a bit small though... just warning you. If you do start over maybe look for a straighter river? -shrugs-

But yeah... for example... for my river, I really only need two bridges total to make it efficient. :x For your kind of river you pretty much need 3 which imo is a waste to me.
