For years, I'd always tell my friends that I wished that you could cook in Animal Crossing - so much of the conversation in older games revolved around food so it was always a little sad you couldn't actually make any or share it with your villagers. So when I heard that NH had a cooking update, I think that might have pushed me off my lazy butt to actually seriously consider getting a Switch and NH.

Unfortunately I'm not at the point in the game where cooking is unlocked but I've heard cooking isn't all I imagined it to be - it's mostly decorative and maybe better for money than just selling raw materials. ): But I was hoping we could feed villagers or go on picnics. Maybe they'd even share their own snacks with you (please Sylvia give me a sandwich).

Did anyone else think cooking was going to be more than it was?

To be honest, I expected cooking to be basically crafting just coated with a different color of paint back when Turkey Day was added into the game.

It is disappointing that it doesn't really offer much else aside from decorative aspects and energy (which I rarely use). I honestly would've liked if villagers would request dishes randomly. Even with campers.

Or when villagers suddenly visit your home, you'd get perks for offering them nice food, such as rare items.

I thought it would be more too. Honestly, I think it's a bit of an annoyance, especially when you're trying to collect DIYs for your collection, and your villager is cooking instead of crafting. If you don't care about having decorative food or don't really need the food for rocks/trees, it seems really pointless. There are just so many recipes it's over the top too. When I reset my island, I was always so bummed to see someone cooking instead of crafting, even if it's a cute look when they're cooking in thier houses.

It would be perfect imo if only villagers ate the food gifted to them instead of put it in their houses. I love cooking in this game haha. It looks so nice

I thought cooking would be more added as like a request from the villagers that if they are feeling hungry and wanted something to eat they would ask you to cook something for them. You bring it to them, they eat it and they would reward you. Sadly it seems like when you give them a food item that you made it gets treated as like a decoration item that they put in their home. I don't know what they were thinking.

Cooking and Baking are exactly what I THOUGHT it would be but not what I wanted. I TOTALLY agree on the villagers ask you for food, or the missed opportunities for things like them coming over and you serving food! I wish they ATE THE FOOD AND DIDNT JUST LEAVE IT ON A TABLE FOR ANTS. Like it could have been SO MUCH MOREEEEEEEEEE. But sadly its just decoration, well atleast I can drink and eat food to fulfill my dreams of the best food.

I have not gotten to that part yet in the game. From what I seen and heard. I definitely pictured it differently. Hopefully in a future update they change it to villagers asking for food.

I expected it to be like the crafting, so I'm not disappointed in that. And since I mainly want food items for decoration, I'm quite happy. After redoing all my villagers' homes, I was able to put snacks and meals out that suit each of them.

Yes, I have a lot of food items in my storage, but it just means I can swap things out in my kitchen or living room any time I feel like it.

i honestly wasn’t expecting anything more than what we got, though i was hoping we would be able to give our villagers soup when they’re sick or something. oh well, having new diys to obtain and their decorative purpose is enough for me. :’)

I'm actually excited to get to that point of the game. xD
I love cooking in real life, and this just makes it even better! :D
I just have to upgrade my house first.

I was expecting getting cooking requests now and then similar to fruit requests in new leaf. Unfortunately not the case. Maybe in the next game.

I was expecting them to be decorative pieces and able to be eaten. I gave my villagers sandwiches and they have them displayed on tables.

Jumping in to rehash everyone else's opinions, and yeah, I haven't used it hardly at all because I wish the villagers ate it instead of used it as furniture. Its useful when you're doing a bunch of landscaping around your island, though! No more having to carry multiple stacks of coconuts.

I was also really excited for farming and cooking and I'm surprised I'm barely using it. Farming is at least nice because they sell for a decent price and regrow fairly quickly. My farm area is a daily 30k. I havent checked if any of the food recipes are worth cooking to sell, but somehow I doubt it.

I was hoping for a little something more, like a restaurant where you could learn, cook, and perfect recipes. Rewards could be non-orderable furniture and clothes, unlocking new ingredients/crops, and increasing friendship levels when you cook for villagers that visit the restaurant while you are there.

What they gave us is…fine. But once I’ve learned/cooked everything, I don’t see myself doing it often, unless there’s a daily Nook points bonus for doing so.

i'm a little bummed about it too. especially since the food is SO PRETTY, i wish there were more uses for it!! i don't have the room/don't really like the look of the fake unstaffed outdoor restaurants (they feel so silly/abandoned/pointless with no real walls/doors and no one working at them imo) so it really feels like i have all this pretty food and nothing to do with it. i also wish villagers would eat it. i was so disappointed when they just displayed it :(

When we got cooking I was expecting it to be just like crafting but I thought we could feed our villagers with the food so I made an orange smoothie for Lily and she said something along the lines of "Thank you for sharing your food with me, Toady" I thought this meant she ACTUALLY was going to eat it, but the next day she just displays in her house on her table. I agree with @Tobiume said, that would have been so precious if we could go on picnics with our villagers :(

It is very basic and I kind of wish it had a mini-game tied to where you actually cooked the food. But it's still fun to collect the recipes and make dishes to display.
