I'll be going to Comic Con this coming October and was curious what people thought about cosplaying?
Do you like it or have done it? Or maybe always wanted to? And who would you be?

I love cosplay! It's like playing dress-up when you were a kid. You can be anyone or anything you want to be!

I've cosplayed a couple times in recent memory and want to do it more.

For some reason, my perfectionism keeps me from even going into cosplay. I don?t have experience sewing or molding/sculpting accessories and tools so I know i won?t be satisfied with what I make. I have seen extremely beautiful cosplays but I also know the best results come from investing hundreds of hours into a costume, which I wouldn?t be ready to do myself.
Not to mention that I feel good cosplay requires decent skills with makeup which I also don?t have and don?t plan to acquire.^^
So, for now, I will stand in the crowd admiring professional cosplayers. (✿❛ ֊ ❛?)

If I ever did a cosplay it would be one where I could buy most parts (so only characters without very complex armor/weapons or anything like it).
And I have to confess, I would probably feel most comfortable in a cosplay that doesn?t require a lot of makeup to "look right" so I have been tempted to get one of these inflatable-dinoasur suits because they look like so much fun to wear *aww those little stubby arms ( ✧Д✧)*

I never really thought about going that crazy when I cosplay. I mean I can sew so I guess I have the advantage there but if you break down each item into easily manageable steps I don't see why you couldn't do it. I've never spent that much doing cosplay. I've made armour out of craft foam, hot glue and gold paint. It's not like those thousands of dollars costumes but everyone who saw it told me how awesome it looked. The last time I went to a Comic Con I went as a naked sim. All I had were tan coloured shorts and a tank top, two boards that were painted like pixels and used a hot glue gun and some sparkly green cardboard paper to make the gem.

I also tend not to do make up or anything like that. I also hate wigs. Right now my hair is purple and my sister suggested I go as James from Team Rocket lol

I think cosplay is amazing. I've never tried it but I've seen a lot of cosplays, and what amazes me is how people have the the time and energy to create the designs of the cosplay, I would find it super tricky, even though I am an artist, I'm a perfectionist as well, and I don't think I could ever perfect a cosplay, and it's just mad how people just go for it, and the end they look so amazing and I love those people. And it's just spreading the love of different anime, shows or whatever, stuff that people might down grade (my friends don't like anime even though they've never watched it) and it will show everyone people's talents I guess too. If I was ever to cosplay, I'd be someone from the anime Kuro****suji or Shingeki no Kyojin (Black butler | Attack on Titan)

I'm starting to see that as a trend though being perfectionist. I've always just went with what I could accomplish for the most part. The armour I had made out of craft foam was for my Princess Zelda cosplay. I know it wasn't exactly like her but people did stop and ask for pictures with me and everything. It made me feel pretty awesome that my hard work paid off. It is a lot of time and effort though - I'll give you that one. But to me it's totally worth it ^_^

I would most definitely agree it is worth it c:

I'm actually curious since you're an artist - how you would go about creating a cosplay. I just go with shapes and things of that nature but I'd love to hear an artist's approach to it

Hmm, I've never thought about it really. If I was to go with an anime character, let's say clothing, i'd probably get like main colours in large bulks and work my to a stage where I can add small details, and I would aim to get colours that are exact, and details that are also exact I guess, and I'd probably only do a small amount a day, I get unmotivated easily and start to rush ;w;

Yea I think that's the hardest part - finding everything to make it exact. But the way you explain it doesn't seem to bad. It's funny because I'm the exact opposite and I'm a horrible procrastinator. When I have a lot of time I tend not to do much. A couple days before I'll really buckle down and focus. I work way better on a time crunch for some reason - which I know def isn't the norm :p

I can be a big procrastinator too ;w;

For me, cosplaying is my excuse to dress up as, like, a Starfleet officer without people questioning me a lot. That and Halloween, I don't go trick-or-treating but I'll never be too old to dress up! :lemon:

I have gone to two events wearing my red shirt uniform that I made and coordinated myself; one was to a thing at the library where a bunch of people gathered to talk about geeky stuff, and another was at a Halloween trail our college class was doing for community service.

I could only dream of actually going to a convention and meeting people who like stuff like video games and ST as much as I do ;w;

That's so awesome that you were able to cosplay though. I also think it's an excuse to be someone else without having to explain the whole Halloween thing. And same here - never too old to dress up :)

It's a shame you can't go to a convention though. I forget people don't live in big cities that hold them. I've also traveled to one but that was a whole other story :p

I’ve cosplayed before, twice, for Halloween. I bought pretty much the whole costume each time though since I’m not an artist. I admit that it wasn’t as cool because I didn’t make it myself, but I still felt cool and had fun wearing them. Both of these times were at the Halloween party for our university. The first time, I dressed up as Saitama from One Punch Man, and the second time I was dressed up as Qrow Branwen from RWBY. Both times though, there was at least one guy or group of people who recognized who the characters were, and they asked me about it and stood up for me. I didn’t really feel any shame in wearing the costumes though, because of how much they costed (ouch).

I remember now there was a third time when I was younger, that I had an adult friend (no longer a friend because of my parents and their parents) who created Transformer costumes with me, but they weren’t that good-looking, and we just went to a mall on Halloween (which I thought was pretty lame).

So yeah. Even though I’m not an artist, I love cosplaying and everything along with it. :)

Absolutely!

I live about an hour away from the capital, but I don't have my license (rip) so I can't usually go. But if and when I do, and I actually do get to go to a convention, that'll be an awesome day ^o^

That's great you can still cosplay even if it is for Halloween. And there's nothing wrong with buying your costume - as long as you act the part and you look similar to whoever you are playing I don't see why you can't. People will still recognize you regardless - especially when it's a popular character. Trust me I'm not artist either. And I know mine are def not 100% correct but it's still the fun in making something and seeing it come together at the end.

It's funny because I've done creative nail designs (south park, sonic, pokemon, kirby, etc) and people ask if I am an artist when in reality it's just coping shapes and lines to make what I'm hoping to recreate. Although if you give me a blank piece of paper and tell me to draw I'll just hand it back saying it's a polar bear in a blizzard because that's where I lack creativity.

I cosplay...but stopped years ago. The cosplay community became a power and ego tripping in my country so I decided to just stop. I still have my wigs and costumes though.

I cosplay a lot! Working on confirming my lineup for next year's Nakakon, so far I know I'm going as Shiro from Voltron and some sort of Pokemon gijinka

This last year I went as Fem!Waluigi and Gaige from Borderlands 2
