Could we make "The Airport" section free-of-charge visits only?

Yeah, anyone that requires payment be moved to Nooks Cranny. I think that could work.
I agree. Since the description of the Nook's Cranny section is "Sell, buy, trade, and giveaway Animal Crossing: New Horizons items and services." I think if people are charging 'entry fees,' it counts as selling a service, and thus belongs in Nook's Cranny.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Tips should always be encouraged. Entry fees however I don't think are fair.

"Encouraging" tips shame people into paying them otherwise they 'look bad'. I don't think it's a fair situation, works very similarly to a fee.
That's my opinion though, since I'm not american and I know it's something cultural for most here.
Just let people tip you if they want , no need to mention it. If they think you were nice enough, they'll leave a tip.

I think asking for a tip or even a small entry fee is fair for them. It is A LOT of work to open your town and host to a bunch of strangers. I don't think it is unfair at all. I'm not someone who hosts but I don't feel offended or "shamed" when people post saying to tip if you want. They're doing work and they should be paid for it. Even though it's just a game, it's still a lot of work.

As for the topic, I don't really do much business on here. I've put a trading thread up on the Airport section because I thought that's what it was for tbh, since that's where I saw a lot of shops going. I guess that was an oopsie? But I don't see that as a shop or anything since I'm not profiting.. It's all equal trading. So I don't know. Maybe some clearer distinction between sections might help.

I'm not saying asking for a fee is unfair - it's unfair to pretend a fee is a tip.
If they're doing work and they "should be paid for it", that's a fee you're imposing on people. "they gave you something so you should pay them for that otherwise you're unfair". A tip is given voluntarily for someone who exceeded expectations at their work. If you're asking for tips, you're asking to be paid, thus, you're charging a fee. If you really want to "be nice to the community", do it knowing it will take a lot of time and won't give you profit. Otherwise, charge. But don't stay middle term.

I agree, an Airport section could be a good solution for this. Maybe a "service" section with both "fees/tips" posts included.

Yes, I also agree that even saying "tips are appreciated!!" implies that if you don't tip you're kind of an *******! If you want to get paid just ask for an entrance fee, if people are interested they will come to your island, pay you and do whatever they came to do.

If you do not tip. I personally don’t hold it against you and really anyone worth their salt shouldn’t either. I give positive reviews for people who do tip and those who don’t. Because I’m ultimately offering for free.
I personally think asking for a tip is fine, either though bells, fragments, flowers, fruit, what have you.

I do agree that if you are asking for an entry fee it should go to Nook’s Cranny, but then I think those peeps feel they don’t get the visibility they want. In which case I believe having a separate forum with prefixes would be a good idea.

I have to disagree here. I’ve used that phrase when opening up my town before, and I literally do not have one clue who left a tip and who didn’t. I also have personally visited someone’s island who said it, and didn’t leave a tip (because I didn’t have anything that they had mentioned wanting) and there was no awkwardness, they left super nice feedback. Trust me, hosts are not keeping track of who chooses to tip and who doesn’t. Saying “tips are appreciated” is just a way of getting something in return for your time, while also not forcing everyone to do so.

I know this has kind of derailed into a erm argument about tips but honestly on the topic of your idea in the OP, I prefer the idea of a prefix on the airport that says PPV (pay per visit) or entry fee or something similar like cadbberry suggested (and also a [Free] tag for people not asking for a fee).
If I'm going to nook's cranny usually I'm there to look for items, if i'm in the airport I'm usually there to visit someone for celeste, turnips, shop visits etc and I'm someone who usually expects to have to pay in one way or another when visiting places anyhoo so I'm not opposed to fees at all. it feels fair considering the amount of effort and time getting full groups of 8 people on your island can take

Same here, I use that phrase too when I host a DIY grab or else, but I don't keep track of who gives what and won't hold it against anybody if they didn't bring anything.
When I go to someone's town for a service, I find it actually very helpful to know what the person would like to get as I, for one, usually tip. One time I went to an Island with a pink Cosmo only to find out arriving there that the host had their island covered in pink cosmos. I found myself a little bit ridiculous with my gift and didn't even dare plant it. Had I known what the person might have been searching for I might have brought something more appropriate.

Saying "tipping is appreciated, for example this or that" does not imply "you're a jerk if you don't tip", it is, in my opinion, a way to indicate what you could potentially appreciate should you be given a gift. I don't read it as a fee and honestly do not mind if people mention that in their thread. And I believe that most people who mention that, myself included, do not mind if guests leave without giving anything, it's ok.

How is that shaming people? Nobodies forcing you to pay anything. Not everyone is able to leave a tip and that's absolutely fine and not shameful in the slightest.

I do ask donations but I say they are not required then I give an idea of what one could donate if they want to.

I always try to give something to the people hosting. Even if it's just 10k.

I am tired however of seeing people use the airport with a entry fee.

Asking donations=okay.
Asking entree fee= not okay.

Also I think it's nice when people donate, sitting in loading screens or even going afk inconviencing yourself not being able to play. You may be rewarded for that. If some cannot donate they don't do it no one will complain.

It's the ones that stand at the gate asking for a nook ticket that are the problem. But don't go hating on those that might ask a donation. Or say something like 'I'm looking for roses would apreciate if you could donate some.'

I've seen you do a lot for the community. I think I got two DIY's and you got a beautiful island you sunk a lot of work in. You risk the risk that someone might trample your flowers etc, you ask for donations I see no problems with that. Never saw you complain when someone did not donate and thank them when they did.

Also I do agree 100% that it's good to give people a list of items you would like or they can tip. I like giving something back and sometimes I join on a short notice and throw down some bells/whatever I have at hand, but it's nice if I can do something back.

and if we made it 100% free and be forbidded to ask for donations I'm afraid many would lose the incentive to host. Not that anyone hosts to get stuff, but if you have to host and never get something that's no fun either. Everyone is happy to receive a small gift. That's not greed it's just well human interaction.

I think that you just need to be transparent. If you are saying, tips are not required but you give attitude if they don't , then dont say it at all. Just say you are expecting tips. so people would know what to expect when they come to your town. If I were someone who sees that clause, I would pm the host first and say "can I come eventhough I can't tip?" and if they say yes, then at least I feel better. i don't feel good coming to a place and not giving something, but that's just me so i naturally tip anyways.

Well if it says:
'tips are apreciated.'
'Would be nice if you tipped.'
'If you can please tip.'

It means to me that someone might like it. I have done some crafting for people and asked for tips.
I never did scold someone for giving me nothing.
Now a double fossil is even something you can tip.

I think if you however make it so that none can ask for a tip. That this also is a pain.
People that host put in time to it. Also they cannot themselves go out to get something at a other place. (I made a topic to help with that.)

But to say free is free and charge nothing. I don't think that's the way to go. Many people will lose a incentive. Many people sell the recipes for example for one nook mile ticket. I think those giving them away for free but are asking for a tip do no harm. Those that have a entrance fee do. A donation or a tip means no entrance fee and if you see it as one just drop a piece of clothing.... Well it really does not hurt if you give them 15 - 20 k bells. Or some piece of furniture, spare fossil etc.

When someone is asking a tip they are not even asking you to break the bank. I also feel it's nice to tip someone for taking the time to do what they do. But if we want to do 100% free, people are going to lose the incentive. It's nice to be rewarded and get some recognition. I would dare say that it's not even about the tip that your receiving. It's about the apperciation that comes with the tip.

When no one tips me I would feel les appreciated. Because strangers run on my island check stuff out and go away. With the tip I get a thanks and some kind of recognition.

When someone does not tip I won't growl about it. I won't get mad I won't get angry. Asking for donations or tips means: it's free you can grab it and leave, but it would be nice if you gave something small. And I don't think it's that big a problem to go grab some flower seeds at your store and bringing them along or a spare fossil etc etc.

This. I just see it as a signal that they might like tips so I just assume anyway that they would like something. Then there are people who actually say "this is totally free.. not tips expected"..then that's good too!

I guess we all would like something. :) I mean it's always fun to get something right?

It's always amazing how generous and kind TBT members are. Even if you don't tell them, they volunteer to give something like a DIY, and whats even amazing is some of them are very observant of your town and would suggest something like..I noticed that you have this and so and so theme ..would you like this item as well? I love that about our TBT members.
