Could we make "The Airport" section free-of-charge visits only?

I'm in agreement even if I may have technically been part of this confusion. I welcome tips and donations when I let people visit but that's because I tend to give away a lot of free stuff, just cause I hate charging people, so it helps keeping me encouraged.

Otherwise, yeah! There should be a better separation of the forums. I feel primarily this is because of an influx of new people on the forums. I've noticed a lot of things being placed inside of the wrong folders for ages. I don't mean anything rude to new people, it makes sense, the forums are a bit of a mess what with the update being delayed so much and all.

Hi all,

I'd like to ask you to please not report threads in the Airport asking entry fees. This is technically not against our rules so these reports are needlessly cluttering our feed.

However, please note we are aware of the situation and are in the process of discussing it. Our discussions sometimes take a while, given we are scattered across four continents, so we cannot give you an instant answer on how we are going to handle this right now.

I mean, I see nothing wrong with saying “tips are welcome/appreciated but not required”, and saying things that you would like as a tip. Because a lot of people DO like to tip, so hosts like to let visitors know that they would appreciate it and would absolutely love certain things as tips. I think those kinds of posts are fine for the Airport, since they aren’t REQUIRING anything.
BUT, posts where the host says, for example “Tip 1 NMT to come”, that’s more of an entry fee and is completely different. I don’t think it would fit in Nook’s Cranny, but maybe if there was a sub under The Airport for visits that require entry fees? Then any completely free visits or “tips not required” posts could be in the regular Airport forum? Just my thoughts. 🖤

I think the thing that bothers me is that people demand tips. That is not a tip. That is a fee. Seriously learn the difference people

This I can agree with.

I think people need to consider the tone and wording when you open the option for tips. Obviously saying "I demand tips" comes across as negative and demanding like an entry fee, but consider delivering in a light-hearted and positive tone such as by saying "tips are always appreciated but never necessary".

I’ll give my two cents on this as well.

I think saying that “tips are inherently bad because they shame people into being forced to give” is not a good look as that sorta implies that hosts who ask for tips are wrong to do so when they’re giving up time and patience to share a DIY, Celeste, etc. with countless people. They’re well within their right to ask for tips, but that certainly doesn’t imply that you should. If anything, it helps to tell people what the host would like to get in case you wanted to give a tip so they don’t get duplicates, etc. I’ve hosted many times since joining this forum and it’s nice to get tips as they incentivize when I sit there sometimes for hours letting people in.

It’s also people’s responsibility to read the wording and its tone: is it positive, negative -perhaps demanding? If it doesn’t sound right, then don’t go. At the end of the day, you can’t really police people who hide behind “tips” when they really mean “fee.” Though this is an occurrence I’ve yet to come across, I haven’t really seen it since most people on here are generous and don’t care whether or not you drop a tip.

I think at the end of the day, the Airport just either needs a subforum for visits with a fee and those without can sit in the regular Airport forum - or maybe utilize the category header like they have over at Nook’s Cranny to distinguish between paid visits and free visits.

I think a prefix stating whether the service is free or expects mandatory payment could work very well, as some others have mentioned. But I wouldn't be averse to making those posts solely go to Nook's Cranny either. I'd just like to not have to waste my time going on threads that ask for unexpected payment in a forum that clearly isn't for that kind of stuff, like entrance fees or mandatory 'tips'.

perhaps if possible, have some sort of title prefix indicators for the airport? (and they can add this to the train station as well, even though it's likely not as big an issue over there

something simple like [free] or [charged] could probably do it

oh, I see this idea has been brought up by others too lol

well, good to know we're on the same page then

The new board was created, but it would be super helpful if there was also a pinned post explaining the rules for each board/the difference between them. I still see people posting entree fees in the airport board despite the creation of the new one. I understand the board was just created, so it might take a while for people to start using it properly, but it'd help a lot if there was an explanation!

i agree, any service in the Airport that requires a fee or mandatory "tip" should be moved to Dodo Business instead, not so much Nook's Cranny.
