Artwork Country Flags UPDATE: 17/07/2014

Thanks for the heads up on the historic American flags! Downloaded and using as I type! Both the Gadsen and Betsy Ross look fantastic. :)

As for the about the Confederate flag, I'd love that one. I guess it may be my age, but I don't understand why people would be offended by it and if some are, with due respect, they should try to grow a thicker skin. There are offensive images and deeds all over every day of our lives. If you were to post one with the DELIBERATE intent to offend, I would be offended by that, not the flag itself. But if you do it because of history and requests, why not?

Personally, I had an ancestor who was...horribly... killed by the Japanese during WWII and I HATE HATE HATE the Japanese flag. Yet I am not demanding that you or anybody else not post one. I actually hesitated before trying any of the Japanese DLC, much less some games, but I had to get over it. I realised I have to "get past the past" so to speak and go on with life. My great-uncle would likely not want me to hate all Japanese or be thin-skinned my entire life because of what a few Japanese people did to him a long time ago.

I hope this post isn't disturbing or bad, but I just don't understand why one flag with pain behind it is all right to create and post and another isn't.

I completely support you and you do marvelous work. Please don't stop! If you make a Confederate flag I'd love a PM if you don't feel comfortable posting it.

I'm going to agree with you on that one. Also, is it...Mississippi? Yes, Mississippi has a confederate flag in the design of their official flag. Let bygones be bygones.

That was off-topic, but I couldn't up-vote or like your post so that had to do. ^^;

You seem like a person who I would have fun sitting down and chatting with. I'm not a very talkative person, but your posts seem to go in-depth. Anyway, I was going to just rehash the Betsy Ross flag by using the American flag I made, but then I thought that that'd just be lazy and not all that interesting. I can't say I enjoyed putting the 13 stars down. That in itself was difficult. xD I have two flags to work on now. But I'd really like to get the Confederate flag out of the way just because it seems right to follow up with after the other two I had just recently added.

I don't like getting into these little bits of history with the touchy subjects, but I believe it has to do with racism and slavery in America. I'm not entirely interested in American history. Some will compare it to the Nazi flag. I kind of get annoyed with the whole Godwin's law bit. I have no problem making whatever flag, regardless of what it means because I don't practice or hold the beliefs of whatever flag I make. I do it because it's fun to make. I won't work on the Confederate flag tonight, though. I'm going to take a little break, make it, then pass it along to whoever wants it.

Hi! How do you get that "used" effect on them?

Similar colors within the palette. For example, in the last flag I made, a lot of the colors are from the yellow palette. I started with the regular yellow and went further down into the darker areas, that way they transition better. Of course I also used a bit of brown and black. Those specifically, because if you were to darken yellow enough, it would start turning browner. Of course with the yellow palette, it started to look ugly green.

Thank you! I was sort of afraid I would be flamed up one side and down the other. :)

I'll have to look up Godwin's law, actually! And you sound like somebody I'd love to sit down and chat with, too. Yeah...I may go too far in-depth sometimes. Believe me, I don't try to. If I actually had gone into real detail in the above post it would have been very awful and something nobody would want to know or even think about. I certainly don't!

But I get where you are coming from. I hadn't considered the concerns you would have making flags and peoples' reactions. Heck, I'm embarrassed I asked you about stars and lettering. I don't know how to do QR art at all, so I had no idea that those things are difficult. I'm sorry I asked you! I had no clue as to the work involved.

What I can say is that I, for one, really appreciate your hard work and that you are taking requests. The Betsy Ross flag is actually close to my heart, personally. I am not a direct descendent of her, but my step-grandmother, who was killed in 1910 was. So the town I named after her, MaudRoss is now proudly displaying your flag.

Thank you. :)

Don't sweat it. The stars were simple to do because they're just dots. Placing them was the only troublesome part about it. As for words, I don't really think there is any other way of working on them unless they're big bold text. Someone asked me to create a flag for them and it has numbers and writing in it. I'm going to give the flag a shot, but the writing surely won't be apart of it. That's what happens when you have 32x32. You made a town named in honor of your step-grandmother? That's pretty interesting. Actually, the story you shared is interesting as well. I actually like the Betsy Ross flag now. With the American and Betsy Ross flag added into the QR codes, it's just cool to see the similarities they share. It kind of reminds me of different representations done by artists. Take Spider-Man and compare him to Alex Ross' Spider-Man. That's the kind of feeling I get when I see the two.

Would you consider doing the Australian flag? Thanks, lovely work! The worn look really looks amazing!

Ooh! I shall do that. I'm going to take a break for tonight, however. I'll take it into consideration, though.

I was going to request a Western Australia flag which is similar, it doesn't have the southern cross it had a yellow circle with a black swan inside:)
if you could do that, then you're amazing :))

These are amazing.

Looks like stuff people edit on vintage flags in move posters.

I see different variations. Which one are you speaking of?

mmm I dunno how to post photos.
it just has the Union Jack in the top left. then it has a black swan facing the left enclosed in a yellow circle. that's all

So I was looking at the correct one. Okay then.

Thanks! I'll try to do it too, it looks great.

amazing! thanks for this :) my version looks so sad hahaha

I was able to add the yellow circle with the black swan. Of course I had to exchange two colors, which caused me to slightly alter the Union Jack. It's a subtle difference, though. However, I'm trying to make a difference between the Australian flag and the Flag of Western Australia. I've got to say that I'm having a hard time making the two Australian flags look tarnished. Hopefully I'll be able to figure something out.
