Hey there, and welcome to (Crochet) Stitchin' with Suguri! I've been crocheting since 2022, and it's one of my favorite hobbies. I will be using this thread to post some of my projects while providing a WIP when I feel like it (in other words, rarely). I mostly do amigurumi, but I also like to work on basic wearables like hats and scarves when I have the energy and motivation. In addition, I'm open to making a blanket...but I'm not ready yet...

Anyway, here's my origin story: my first exposure was during 2015-2016. I bought a Peanuts crochet kit because it looked interesting, even though I didn't understand how to use the materials in it to make a Snoopy doll (I was obsessed with Snoopy at the time.) My mom had some basic knowledge but she couldn't figure out the crochet patterns, so it pretty much gathered dust for a while and I never thought much about getting into crochet...

...until years later. Fast forward to the summer of 2022: I wanted to learn a new hobby so I could take my mind off of something personal that occurred earlier. I tried sewing, but it didn't click with me. I was particularly interested in making stuffed toys, so I decided to look up some kits on Amazon. The first listing that popped up was for a penguin crochet kit by a brand called "The Woobles". The colorful packaging and positive reviews got my attention, so I bought one immediately. Then I got hooked and the rest is history!

Here's Pierre the Penguin and Nico the Cat together! Their kits were a huge help in teaching me the basics.

As for the Snoopy doll...I managed to fulfill my childhood dream and make one months ago, using the booklet that came with my Peanuts crochet kit!
IMG_1163.jpeg

That's all for now. I have more projects coming soon, so stay tuned! :D

Welcome to this thread where I share some things I crocheted, be it recently or a long time ago. I will start by showing you my first two Woobles.

(Edit 4/18/2024: I resized the image so it doesn't make the post too big. You're welcome :))
IMG_0273.jpeg

It all started in Summer 2022 when I discovered a Woobles kit for a penguin on Amazon. I wasn't sure I would be interested but I got it out of curiosity anyway. Once I made the penguin (his name is Pierre), I became addicted. Later I bought a kit for the cat (Nico) which taught me a few tricks that seemed advanced at first but I later got used to.

More projects coming soon!

Well, it's been a while since I put anything up here. I don't remember making anything new between the last post and now, so here are some older stuff I made.

From left to right: Suzume, Zassou, Hokori, Yellow Tapioca Pearl

"Sumikko Gurashi" is my favorite kawaii franchise because of its relatable characters. They sell a lot of things, even a crochet pattern book! But it's in Japanese and only sold in Japan, so it was harder for me to get my hands on a copy. I managed to get it after a while as a PDF scan someone was selling on Etsy. Then I made these four characters, officially categorized as "minikko".

They were the first amigurumi I managed to finish using a diagram instead of a written pattern, which I am used to following when making crochet projects. From my experience, learning to read a diagram pattern may be difficult at first, but it's worth it in the long run, especially when your looking to make projects whose patterns are published in foreign languages.

I made this some time before the Disney movie "Wish" was released. I really liked Star's design because it reminded me of the Lumas from Super Mario Galaxy, so I was inspired to crochet it. The body was formed using the pattern for the Wooble Bubbles the Elephant. I did not use another pattern when making the points. The felt details were the hardest part; I wanted the pieces to look right and be positioned right.
Random fact: I was going to bring this with me when I went to the theaters to see the movie, but I left it at home.

It's two Kikis, actually. The first one is normal and the second one has been through a lot. Both of them are Woobles like Pierre and Nico from the first post, and I made them when my hyper-fixation on a certain Pokemon character named Kieran was beginning to blossom. I thought a lot about him while making them, in fact.
IMG_0621.jpeg

PaRappa Rappa shaped like an egg. Before Kieran, PaRappa was a major hyper-fixation of mine. I used a Woobles pattern (can't remember which) to make this. I think I made him before I got my hands on a fake Stubbins PaRappa plush figurine. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a seafood cake recipe in progress, so I better crack crack crack the egg into the bowl.

I’m back with another old project. More is coming soon. It’s truly going to be a while before I can escape from this crochet burnout...

Here it is, an orange cat:

It’s supposed to be Scratch Cat, who is the mascot of Scratch, a website I frequented during my childhood. This is what Scratch Cat looks like:

Go here for the pattern.

Since I’m in an Animal Crossing forum, I’m gonna show this old project that I finished which is Animal Crossing-related: a bag of bells.
IMG_0755.jpeg

Unfortunately, I don’t remember what pattern I used for the bells, but I remember having to look up another pattern to crochet the star symbol.

Speaking of Animal Crossing, I've been wanting to make a gyroid for a while. Right now these two patterns are my favorites:
https://thecraftzilla.blogspot.com/2020/04/animal-crossing-gyroid-crochet-pattern.html
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/squeakoid-2
I wanna make both of them, but I need to pay to get the squeakoid pattern, so I can only do the first one for now. When will I get to work on it? Who knows??

Oh, and I have a new project! I’m starting to get back into crocheting, albeit at a slower pace because of other priorities. Today I finished this duck that is wearing a dinosaur costume; a relative of mine wrote the pattern. I’d like to share it here but I need their permission first. Here’s what it looks like!

First of all I would like to give a shout-out to @ZeldaCrossing64 for creating the lovely Char. What you're seeing right now is them in amigurumi form! I don't know why but lately I've had a bit of a crush on this kitty. (rest assured, I am still Kieran's #1 supporter) That's why I couldn't resist making this yesterday!

Char is based off of this pattern. I omitted the snout and whiskers in favor of an embroidered face. I remember while I was doing the face, I was suddenly reminded of Petey the Cat from "Dog Man". Looking back, I realized Char here looks like Petey in his edgy phase, LOL! I also cut triangles out of purple and blue felt and glued them onto the ears. Then I did some color-changing for the body to make Char's jacket. A string of white yarn was used to form the jacket strings. I even crocheted a small black piece to form the pockets, but you can't see it here due to the lighting. I used their reference sheet while making this, which you can find here.

Anyone who has been into TBT collectibles for some time may recognize this as the

Celeste chick plush in amigurumi form! Or, you can call it Chibi Celeste or Wooble Celeste (you'll see why later.) This is part of a long-term project I started where I plan to make amigurumi out of my favorite collectibles. For more details, here's what I said a few days ago:
I think, when I have the time, I'm going to make some amigurumi out of certain TBT collectibles to make up for the fact that I can't afford most of them. And here's what I want [to] crochet:

There won't be patterns for the collectibles because I'm not skilled at writing them and I prefer Frankenstein-ing or basing my "original" amigurumi (like my most recent project which I'll show later) on existing patterns, but maybe I'll try it out? IDK. Plus, the problem with the Space Whale plushie (or whatever you call it) is that I can't find any good yarn that's colored like the galaxy, so if anyone can find yarn that's not expensive, can be found in Michael's, and/or is at least close to the plushie's colors, that would be great!
Celeste is essentially an amalgamation of existing patterns. She inherits Andy the Owl's body, wings, and tail; Howard the Yeti's face; Tanya the Tiger's belly patch; and Pierre the Penguin's beak. Her bow comes from this pattern (the small variant). I made her eyebrows myself and took some creative liberties with her checkered belly due to limitations.

I got inspired to make Celeste after I learned about the existence of a real-life version of her collectible from @Xara . I noticed that she looked like one of the Woobles, and that's when inspiration struck!

omg she’s so small and round…. could hold her gently in the palm of my hand… she’s so cute !!!! you did an amazing job with her! ♥️

I got a gyroid today! Actually, I crocheted it myself. Anyway, here it is!

Pattern

I like it and all, but the only con it has is that it can't dance to music like in the games. I wish it could. Who doesn't? I can imagine it making noises and moving its body to such hits as "Drivin'" by K.K. Slider, "All We Need is Music" by PJ and PaRappa, "Just Fine" by Mary J. Blige, and "Rust in Peace...Polaris" by Megadeth...

As soon as Celebrating Diversity 2024 kicked off, inspiration struck. I got as much yarn as I could and in a few hours, I whipped up @ZeldaCrossing64's OC, Nanuk! This is not my entry for the event BTW. I'm still trying to come up with something to crochet and my mind is a blank at the moment. x_x

IMG1010.png

(I had Zelda's Celebrating Diversity 2022 entry open when I took the first photo BTW!)

I followed this pattern to make them like with Char a month ago. It's a similar process, except there was a lot more color changing with the yarn (especially with the ears and tail), I referred to Nico the Cat's pattern (from The Woobles) to embroider the fish on her jacket, and I used this cool video tutorial to embroider the eyes! (with a few creative liberties, of course.) I was originally going to use felt, but then I got nervous and I had to look up other ways to add eyes to amigurumi. I'm so glad I found the video!

Here's a bonus photo with Char and Nanuk because why not?
IMG1006.png

And I can't forget about my friend @BTCircley (Please check out his Scratch account, TPRisesAgain!) and his characters! A long time ago I crocheted two of his OCs, BlueTheCircley and Sun & Cloud.

For reference...
Character5.png
Character2.png

There were a lot of creative liberties involved. Especially with Sun & Cloud, which I free-handed. I had to simplify his details because I was (and still am) a novice crocheter, so that meant the white blobs that were his hands had to go. For BlueTheCircley, I simply crocheted a sphere with this pattern, then embroidered a face and attached arms to it.

That should be it for now. For my next post, I will show off my event entry! (once I figure out what I'm making...) See ya later!

I've already mentioned this, but Nanuk looks absolutely adorable and I'm so happy you crocheted them!! I'm impressed since there's a lot of colors involved. And seeing them next to Char just warms my heart. 😭💜

TheBlueCircley and Sun & Cloud also look good, even if you had to take some creative liberties. Love seeing your work, Suguri!

I don't usually reply to posts here but I'm doing it because I'd like to make a correction...his name is "BlueTheCircley", not "TheBlueCircley"!

I said earlier that Nanuk wasn't going to be in my Celebrating Diversity 2024 entry. Guess what... I decided to put them in there. I had to give in to temptation because they were honestly a good fit. XD

Anyway, here are all the photos I attached to my entry, reposted here for your re-enjoyment. :D

The reversible octopus was inspired by this pattern and creature Mitzi was inspired by this pattern.

I've been meaning to say this since you posted your entry, but I haven't gotten to it till now; I love your entry!! Not only am I honored that you crocheted Nanuk, but the Cephalobot/Marina and Mitzi dolls are so cute. 🥹💜 (Mitzi is my 2nd favorite AC villager, but you probably knew that since you saw her on my island. ;P)

Oh, and I just saw the Crisp drawing on the nametag. Cute!!

So here are two projects I finished this past week...

#1: This is the omnisexual pride flag. I didn't have any yarn in its exact colors, so I had to make do with what I had. I'm unsure where to put this, but I plan to display it somewhere. Fun fact... I had plans to crochet a project related to Animal Crossing and omnisexuality alongside the three I finished for the Celebrating Diversity event, but unfortunately, I couldn't think of anything. See here for the pattern.
IMG_1107.jpeg

#2: Here's a drawstring pouch designed like the soot sprite from the Studio Ghibli movies. I don't watch much of their films (though I've seen My Neighbor Totoro before), but when I saw the pattern for this I thought it looked cute, and I also needed something to store my headphones after I lost the bag that came with it, so I decided to make it. This is the first time I made something of utility that isn't clothes (I've made hats at one point), so I'm proud it works! See here for the pattern.

These photos are of the pouch when it's not used and the pouch in use. As you can probably tell in the last photo, my headphones are in there.

i love that pouch so much suguri!! inspiring me to use one of the patterns i bought off etsy for a bread airpods pouch :3
