I had a thought based off a comment someone made somewhere, they said they would love if D.I.Y. items would later be purchased through the shops. I actually thought about it myself and I realize others may end up disliking the crafting component, however I would love items to only be available through D.I.Y. I know for example flower crowns wouldn't make sense out of D.I.Y. due to y'know crafting it from flowers you grew? : ) I really hope some or most if not all D.I.Y. will be it's own thing to add some more items as well as unique flair haha o/ But I guess we will see how they go about it. What is everyone's thoughts on this? Curious to hear different opinions : D

I like the idea of DIY being its own thing. I know that there are many people who have a side hustle out of DIY crafts, so I can see the argument of DIY items hitting the nooklings store, but I hope they stay their own separate thing. I also really like the idea that there are just some items we can't craft so we will still be hitting up the store for items to see what they have.

I rather it not be only diy.
I hate crafting, so I prefer if they do become available at a later time.
Crafting reminds me too much of pocket camp...and I didn’t like pc at all.
I rather buy things.

I like the idea of DIY being its own thing, especially since the furniture you can buy are all the things you can’t craft yourself. I understand why people don’t like the crafting aspect, but luckily I really do. Anyway, there probably is a strong possibility that later on in the game you are able to just buy what we used to have to craft, so that people have a choice. Also since the tools can break, I’d be surprised if you had to continually make tools over and over throughout the game. Though I wouldn’t mind, but others might

I think you should be able to buy the stuff as well for people who don’t like crafting. But I will only ever craft the stuff when available.

Mostly purchased items but I'll do DIY when necessary. Depends cost of item vs time it takes to build. Gotta weigh the options.

It also helps to know whether the crafting will be completed in a matter of seconds, or if I have to wait 30 minutes or hours. If it’s a couple of seconds, that’s more bearable, but if I need the item right away and I have to wait a whole day, that would bother me a bit.

I’m pretty sure they said the stuff in the shop was for non craftable items so

It would be nice if there was a feature where we can sell some of our DIY projects with an in game online marketplace

I do hope that craftable items show up in the shops at some point! I'm worried about the crafting feature and I'm worried I wont like that concept of the game ;;

They definitely said that DIY items will also be available to buy! Whether or not that's all items or just some items is yet to be determined, though. I know the starting equipment (the Flimsy Tools) can also be purchased from the Resident Services tent, from the Nooklings.

Personally, I like both.

When just buying furniture, you don't have to worry about carrying the right ingredients - all you need is the money to pay for the furniture. However, you're also at the whims of whatever the shop has in stock - and if the shop doesn't have the item you want, you're a bit out of luck! Of course, you can order items you've already obtained from the Catalogue (assuming its back), but that's just that - you need to obtain the item first. Not to mention that Catalogue purchases are a little more expensive, and you have to wait a day for shipping.

When using DIY Crafting, you don't have to worry about shipping or what stock the shop has, but you do have to worry about what crafting ingredients you currently have available. Not enough stone or hardwood? Too bad, no furniture for you. However, once you learn a DIY Recipe, you appear to be able to access it permanently - no need to wait for the shop to be in stock! Not to mention you get to save those hard-earned Bells to pay off your debt to Nook, too.

Both options have their pros and cons! And more choice is never a bad thing - I feel like I'm going to be using both equally!

It also helps to know whether the crafting will be completed in a matter of seconds, or if I have to wait 30 minutes or hours. If it?s a couple of seconds, that?s more bearable, but if I need the item right away and I have to wait a whole day, that would bother me a bit.

They definitely won't be pulling the whole "craft time" shenanegans with this one. The system used in Pocket Camp was there just to incentivise spending Leaf Tickets (ugh), but in this game there's no such IAP. By the looks of things, crafting is instant - you just need the ingredients. So it's less like Pocket Camp, and more like Minecraft.

I can’t find it but one of the pax or 10 minute videos did show you can buy the crafted items too.

i definitely would prefer if the d.i.y items and items you can purchase were separate things - it makes the crafting function more unique aha

I like the DIY system, but it's definitely going to stop me from crafting things which I would have obtained if I saw it in a shop, "just in case I need it". I won't be crafting unless it's something I really want.

I see Animal Crossing as the ultimate "play-as-you-want" game, and this entry seems to be going full-on with that concept. Some people may want a more classic experience, avoiding crafting altogether and buying everything instead, like you could in older games. Some people may want to embrace all the new features and craft as much as they can. Both play styles are equally valid, IMO, so I think they should make items available both ways so people can choose what they want to do.

Personally, I plan to craft everything I can. But there might be times I don't have the materials or want to save my materials for something else. Later on in the game, when I have lots of extra bells, I might end up just buying more items, too. It would be nice if there was an online marketplace to buy/trade/sell items.

DIY seems to be a mix of its own thing and purchasable items, as it was said in the Direct that the their are items you cannot craft when they were talking about the shop.

.

Yes, but Pocket Camp required an excessive amount of materials that took hours to earn, weren't very easy to obtain, and then took hours to complete the crafting.

This is nothing like that.

From what we've seen, it literally takes <5 seconds.

The videos don’t show everything, a lot of the videos showed small clips, so we can’t say for sure how long it would take or how hard the quests are for now until we are playing the actual game. For example, some items could take longer than others to craft or have harder items to obtain. I hope that’s not the case, and that it’s very fast procedure. Still if there is a buying option, that’s what I would go for. It’s kind of what I’m used to from previous animal crossing games.

Sure they haven't shown us everything, but definitely not using jump cuts if that's what you're trying to say. Have you seen PAX ? I think it's clear the crafting speed will remain the same for all items.

You are the one crafting, so it seems rather odd that you go to a crafting table, and some mystic magic tells you to come back later

Loved seeing all the thoughts/opinions : D regardless of how they implement it; it'll definitely be a great addition!

i think that DIY and purchase-only furniture should both be available in shops, but with more preference to purchase-only furniture. ideally DIY furniture is something you'll have access to 24/7 depending on materials, but there's also the issue of having to collect all the recipes. like if you wanted a polka-dot chair but don't have the recipe and you cannot get it in the shop you're out of luck. i think allowing DIY furniture to be sold in stores would help in situations like that. giving preference to purchase-only furniture, which the nature of it being purchase-only automatically makes it a bit more "rare", would help with the potential issue of never getting that type of furniture in stock. so if there are two pools of furniture, one being DIY and one being purchase-only, if you combine the pools then the purchase only is a bit harder to get simply because there's only one way of getting it, and that way only has a limited number of slots (two at Resident Services, like three or so at Nook's Cranny). giving preference to purchase-only would allow us to see that furniture more often while still giving those who don't have a specific crafting recipe hope of getting their desired item. i feel like i repeated myself in this but oh well lol

this is a bit off topic but why do some of y'all hate crafting so much? adding materials to collect just gives us more things to do in this game, and the recipe collection will gives the game more longevity. there are seemingly no crafting times and everything is instant. i really just can't wrap my head around the dislike.
