I also like the fishing tourney more. Both are great, but I prefer the excitement of wondering which fish you're going to reel up rather than knowing what bug I'm going for.

I like the bug off, partly cause I just adore flick, and partly cause it is just more fun and challenging for me as an activity.
the fishing tourney is fun, and by making fish bait you can very easily and predictably rack up points. But because of that I think the bug off is more exciting. You don’t know if and where bugs will spawn and end up having to run all over after them. Sometimes you catch 2 (or even zero
) and sometimes you catch 13 and you just don’t know which it will be until you play.
It’s fun to do the team play too (I only did it once when my husband was still playing)! I like that it is more cooperative than competitive.

The bug off is more fun for me in spite being absolutely disgusted by bugs whether it is in game or RL but I do like the fishing tournament rewards better, at least the cooler and the fishing rod stand .

Bug off, I can catch more per round and don't have to cover as much ground to do it. I will say that I prefer the bug off and fishing tourney they way they were done in nl to how they are done now. I like the all day concept rather than short fast rounds.

I prefer the bug off because I can’t stand talking to CJ and his whole personality annoys me. It’s also fun running around looking for bugs

I would probably have to say that I prefer the Bug-Off.
I feel like, considering the short time limit you're given, the Fishing Tourney involves a bit too much wasted time walking around between catches because you have to find another shadow in the water. You also run the risk of scaring away any fish you do find if you're not careful and try to run while looking for the shadows. I also generally play the game with the sound off, listening to something else, so I also run the risk of failed catches occasionally depending on how difficult a specific fish catch is.
With the Bug-Off though, there are plenty of bugs around. Plus, I'd say that I generally prefer bug catching over fishing. It's just less of a hassle overall.

Bug-off for sure. But I like being able to see exactly what I'm catching, and I like the thrill and fast pace of it. The fishing tourney feels so slow and tedious in comparison IMO.
But I also prefer bug catching in general (again, seeing what you're gonna catch is awesome) to the point where I've completed my bug encyclopedia but am nowhere near completing my fish one, lol.

i prefer fishing, but i prefer the bug off. bugs are easier to catch, so the numbers are easier to rack up, and i don't have to spend hours crafting bait beforehand just to get a decent score. standing in one place constantly, having to throw in fish bait and wait, is just incredibly boring to me. there's no fun in it, and fish are so much easier to miss catching than bugs are.

Hmmm I never really thought of it that way. Usually I am the best at Fishing because when I see a shadow I use my rod, then I listen to the sound of the fish biting, when I hear that "splash" sound thats when I hit the button. I guess the problem I had with the Bug Off was that I didn't have too many trees planted on my island and I didn't have much Tree stumps. I might consider doing that when the Bug Off comes around the corner.
Its weird because last year when I started the bug off none of the bugs spawned for me, of course I did went to a friends island and they had no issues with the bugs spawning. So that left me confused. I don't know if its RNG of how they Spawn or what.

I like the bug off better. I generally like catching bugs in AC more than fishing so I find the bug off really fun!

Wow it seems that many people prefer the Bug Off. I would sure would like tips on how people do the Bug Off because for the life of me last year I had no clue where to even find the bugs. I know most of them spawn in trees and they are flying around, but for some odd reason I couldn't get them to spawn when I was doing the Bug Off on my island.
I prefer the Bug-Off. For Fishing Tourney I feel the pressure to need to go craft bait for it. Thankfully I don't have to do that ever again since I've got all the items and trophies.
The Bug-Off, though, I just start a round and hope for the best! Much less time consuming when no bait needs to be crafted, or rather, when I don't feel the need to craft bait.

Well the only thing you need to worry about is your Net breaking when doing the bug off.

The bug-off. Love it. Even now, when I have already caught every bug there is to catch, I still catch them because it's fun for me.
It may be because I like bugs in real life. Not all bugs, just the ones I used to shoot (with a camera and macro lens) for my 365 project. Jumping spiders, butterflies, caterpillars, dragonflies, weaver ants, etc. They are gorgeous macro subjects. I'm fascinated by them. Jumping spiders are my favourite. They're super curious creatures and very cute with their big, round, oversized eyes. The atlas moth holds a special memory for me. Every time I see one in the game, I'm reminded of the time I'd managed to shoot a pair of mating atlas moths in the mangrove forest.
Also, with bugs in the game, you see what you're about to catch. With fish, it's not a sure thing. I know it doesn't matter what type of fish you catch in the fishing tourney. But it's just more fun for me to chase after the bugs.
