While I like both, obtaining photos feels a bit more rewarding. Also, you can display it on both the wall and the floor/furniture. The frames are also customizable. Posters are larger though.
I like the photos because it’s something you have to work towards to get. There’s very little in the way of progression in this game so being able to see the villagers photos in my house and knowing that I had to put time and effort into befriending them and getting them, makes me feel somewhat satisfied.
