i'd love to design villager's houses- but only as an option. because as some ppl have mentioned, they wouldn't want to be forced to design everyone's houses, and i agree with that! but it would be nice for ppl who like to have a lot of control over their towns. also, i definitely would like to redesign villagers' exteriors.
with the interiors, maybe it could work like a request? like they tell you "i've been thinking of redecorating! can you help me?" and if you say yes, it becomes a happy home designer-like thing where you can redesign everything. and put in new furniture, but only if you own it and by putting it down you're giving it to the villager, or if you've given it to them in the past and they already have it.
I like the idea of incorporating the friendship levels in Pocket Camp. I think it would be a cool idea that once you hit the max friendship level with a villager, they'll trust you enough to re-decorate their home
Usually I would be all over another option for customisation, but probably not with this. In the same way I wouldn't let somebody just come and do whatever they want with my house, I would find it odd to go around making interior design choices for the villagers. I kind of like it how it is now where the villagers just do 'whatever' with their own house, makes it feel more like it's actually their house and less like I'm a tyrannical dictator. It's more fun to have a look at something I've had little to no input in designing.
Alternatively though:
- I wouldn't mind villagers being able to have larger houses like the player. I think it would make villagers houses a bit more fun to have a look around, see what they've done with the place since you last went in. Maybe have it time based, so the longer they've lived in your village the option becomes available to make their house larger and larger, like how the player can pay to upgrade theirs. Have it be done via them submitting a housing permit to Isabelle and she'll ask you to approve or deny it, yano, so they can't make their house bigger if you don't want them to.
- Much like how when you catch them a bug or a fish they'll sometimes display it in their house, have them occasionally ask your opinion on things. "Where do you think I should put this new chair?" and then you just place it where you want it. "I'm thinking of painting the walls, what would you recommend?" and then you pick some wallpaper for them. "I want a new accessory for my house, what would you choose?" and then you hand them an item. Could base it on friendship or how much time you spend/interact with the villager, sort of like a little reward for being friends with them.
- In relation with them expanding their houses, maybe the option to 'designate' rooms. I always find it weird when they have their entire belongings in a single room, the bed in the same room as the oven and the toilet, sleeping where they cook and poop. Designate a room as 'bathroom' so that certain items will appear there by default, have an option for 'N/A' as well for the existing "items go literally friggin' anywhere" that AC uses now.
I'd be ok with it, but I don't know if it's a feature I would use.
I wish we could choose where villagers placed there houses rather than plop them down in a random place.
I think it should be an achievement or something. Like, when you've already got some rewards from Nook because of your good home design (sorry, I really don't know what this is called in English), then villagers will start to ask you if you could design their homes as well. But I wouldn't want to design every villager's home when they move in. I like the way the developers created a unique feel to every villager's home in Animal Crossing and in most cases, I wouldn't want to change a thing about them.
I was thinking maybe depending on your villagers friendship you could design certain aspects of their house. For example, if you have moderate friendship they might let you design the exterior of their home and with high friendship they might ask you to help clean their house and you can just move around the furniture they already own.
