One of my ACNL pet peeves is that animals start out with a pretty amazing house that later turns into a dump if you're not careful. Has anyone else desperately tried to match the furniture you give your villagers? For example, Diva's house used to be an Egyptian themed room, and now it's turning into a spa because of how the furniture matches up.

?\_(ツ)_/?

I tried that for Ankha's house once but I gave up because she decided she hated all her furniture (except for the throne -_- I'll never get it...)

I've been avoiding giving my villagers any furniture or bugs/fishes they ask for. I'd like for them to retain their houses instead of looking like a hot mess.

Erik's house used to be cute and homey how it has all kinds of stuff everywhere x'D

Yeah, I find this really annoying too! Ankha had such a great house but she started decorating herself with random clothes. I tried giving her a tiki torch because she replaced one of hers but she gave it back saying she already had one. </3
Coco's house has changed a lot - I keep giving her items and most of them look really cool in her house! But she has this one fish she never seems to get rid of. </3

I want to do favours for my villagers but I also don't want to give them furniture or bugs that will mess up their lovely homes. :c

This happened to Bruce and Marshal in my town. They both had really good layouts, but Bruce now has too many random things. He has a retro fridge, a ball catcher, an exit sign, some clothes, and a classic wardrobe. Nothing makes sense in his house and the only original things are the wallpaper and flooring v.v. I've been trying to get his house back to the way it was. Marshal on the other hand keeps getting rid of his furniture without really replacing it. If I give him something, I see it in Re-Tail within a week. I'm trying to get their homes back to normal while preventing the others from changing too much as well (especially Pietro ;; he wants to get rid of his items so badly).

I hate that! That's honestly my BIGGEST pet peeve.

There are some things I to do try and prevent it -- I fill all the Flea Market spaces in ReTail with shells and price them at like 50k so no one can buy those, and also so no one can sell the items in their homes. Then I never let them buy things off me when they ping (!) me, unless it fits their house. I also have furniture items buried right in front of their houses so that if they ever ask me to find them furniture, I already have the perfect thing picked out.

One thing you can do is send them two letters with the exact same piece of furniture in both letters. They will literally have to put the furniture up in their house, it has worked for me 100% of the time. The only problem is that if you choose something they like, they might put BOTH up. Skye now has TWO alpine beds in her house. ((I like to think that she uses them for sleepovers)).

You can tell what items villagers like on this list right here: http://www.thonky.com/animal-crossing-new-leaf/villager-birthdays ; those are items that, more than likely, you only need to send one of for the villager to keep.

... if it wasn't clear, I've done, like. A fair amount of research on this because as I said, it is literally by biggest pet peeve in the entire game.

I've been trying a lot more to keep my villager's houses neat. Usually this means messing their houses up and later sending them the furniture they originally had, or stuff that looks similarish. So far it's working pretty well.

Yeah I fill my Re-Tail with flowers priced at 999,999 so no one will buy any and they can't put their furniture on sale. In addition to that, I never deliver anything to other villagers, nor do I trade with them or give them anything they ask for. It works for me. c:

After awhile of debating whether or not I should make any attempt at making the villagers' houses' interior nice to look at and not a bunch of really badly matched furniture or of furniture comprising mostly of fish and insects. Even though it helps raise my friendship level with them, I stopped giving them fish or insects. Of my villagers, there aren't that many that I liked how their houses looked before they filled it with gifts and such from me and other villagers; but I did like Ankha's. Unfortunately, I can't get her to have two torches in the room at the same time anymore and she just recently gave me her throne. I'd want to customize her house as I'm going to do with a selected amount of my other villagers, but there's not a lot of Egyptian or Middle Eastern themed furniture in the game, which is a shame :/.

my pet peeve is when you give villagers a tshirt and they dont dress up in it but display it in their house (⊃д⊂)

I did a bit for Cherry's house... I would try to give her black or red stuff to match with everything else...
