Did you expect acquiring villagers to be this difficult?

hear me out before y'all say that this has always been animal crossing's concept :')

since pocket camp & hhd, i figured some of the new things added and implemtned would carry over on the switch game. such as: easy house set up, crafting, organized storage, customizable character without needing guides, multiple skin tones, and much more. AND IT DID.

one thing i was hoping to be implemented? easier villager acquisition for our favorites. now i'm NOT saying they should hand them over to us as easy as pocket camp with just fulfilling furniture request or clearing a map. but what shocked me is how they made it even more difficult. even inviting a villager through amiibo, you have 3 days before you're able to convince them. this was WAY out of my prediction. plus the deserted island, i know this was gonna happen but it wasn't what i expected. it's probably just my expectations but wouldn't it be cool if there was more than 1 villager, OR, let it be randomized but we choose what kind of island we'll go to. like with tortimer tours/mini games. let's say, a type of island would spawn a certain personality. sooner or later we'll find out trick and through guides and we'll be able to filter islands and go to one where our dreamies could spawn.

just a random thought.
it's not a criticism. i'm not nitpicking the game.
obtaining your villagers will always be one of the quirks of ac.
i'm just saying this isn't what i expected. i thought they'd make it somewhat easier, but even the campsites-- many have been saying villagers are rarely visiting.
wouldn't it be great if there's a way to obtain them via game? instead of hunting them online through adoption? (which btw is glitched rn so....)

hummmm, i don't think it's harder.
it's easier than in new leaf, that you could only get villagers randomly or via campsite.
going to the island and being able to choose a villager it's actually quite nice.
i don't use amiibos but this ˜3 days thingy seems ok to me. the game is supposed to have some kind of cadence to it. being able to get all your 10 dream villagers in like 10 days via amiibos cards makes it too easy lol

I think it's really cool you can get random villagers and choose to invite them. Having control over who moves in even without the amiibo cards is preferred. And amiibo cards give you new recipes, so both situations are wins in my book!

I love that it's more manageable than in previous games. Villager move-ins use to be sporadic and chaotic. I hated when a villager moved because I knew I was about to go through hell again.

Getting amiibos is harder on the other hand.
I just hate that I have to help an amiibo 3 times rather than simply ask them to move in.

It's really not that much harder than it was in New Leaf. In fact, I'd easily say New Leaf is worse.
In New Leaf, you'd have no idea when a new villager was moving in until you loaded up a game and realised the there's a reserved plot that just ruined half of your bushes (I still hold a grudge against you for doing that to me, Butch...)

I enjoy the island tours to be honest.
I haven't really met a "dreamie" on any island excursion (well, maybe besides Norma whom I'm growing to love) BUT I will usually go on a few and settle on a villager that either a) Is quite popular so I could potentially trade him/her with someone in the future b) someone who is cute or unique in some way and I haven't had in my previous games so would like to experience living on my island for some time.

I have some amiibos of my dreamies but I want to hold off on them (also because of the glitch) but also because I want to experience some new animals this time around.

No, I wouldn't say it's hard at all. I'm delighted with the villagers I've invited to move in and how easy it's all been.

What glitch? I got Ankha to move in using an amiibo, and haven't have any glitches yet. I thought the Amiibo glitch was related to adopting evicted villagers?

i dont think its hard tbh. in fact, i'd say its actually easier. the tour islands usually have a villager on them when u have a plot open, random villagers can move in up to like a day or two after setting down a plot, and the amiibo villager is basically guaranteed as long as u can craft their items 3 days in a row. all of this with a good plot bc u manually picked out the spot??? rly nice. i dont think i can go back to previous games now :p

I like this system also better than New Leaf’s. You have some semblance of control in terms of plotting the house and inviting your preferred villagers but they also kept the genuine feelings of surprise and joy through the randomness of the island tours. The excitement of seeing a dreamie there and being able to invite them is just so pure. Especially after so many tickets. Makes everything worth it.

You know, back to the Wii there wasnt something like obtain a dreamy, it was way too easy in New Leaf and it’s a lot easier now.

It does seem incredibly difficult, and your chances of having random move ins when you don't place someone else in a plot in a short amount of time sucks.

3 days for an amiibo seems unfair, especially when new leaf kind of spoiled us and we could invite them instantly and simply kick out a villager to place them in. I paid for the these cards, I should be able to use them when I want, you know?

And if you want to island surf to find a villager you like, it's 2k miles and a 'good luck' at finding someone you like because there are SO many villagers now.

It does kind of force you to try new villagers out, which can be fun at times, but I'd like to have some of my faves in some spots and meet new villagers in others.

this is what i mean, especially with amiibo cards. not just random move in's, which is essentially a part of the game. but even random move in's right now takes EFFORT. i know people will have a hard time agreeing with me or seeing my point, but i literally was able to obtain all my dreamies on new leaf. i didn't struggle tbh.

I'm unsure if I've just been lucky or what but I've had incredible luck finding all of the villagers I've really wanted and getting rid of villagers I didn't. Compared to how much effort and time it took me to begin finding dreamies for New Leaf, New Horizons has been a breeze and very pleasant.

I'm just glad I'm not doing a theme like I did in new leaf. One of my three towns I did cats only...that would be insanely difficult on nh

also back then, we had plot reset tricks and other tricks due to the game not having the auto-save feature. i know the villagers moving in randomly was a concept people didn't like before but that's a different topic. sometimes i don't care where they move in & we had work around that. but hey i'm glad that area of the game was improved a lot.

I'm still not so sure what you mean by it being 'difficult' to be honest.

Like, I get that three days is a while to wait, but you don't have to place a plot until the third day to ensure that they get it and not a rando.

If you don't want a rando, you can just not place a plot down.

As for obtaining dreamies, I'm doing just fine. Got Alli moved in yesterday, bought a cheap Del amiibo that arrived today, and had guarantees for two others from people who have them in their town and do not intend to keep them. Maybe it's because all my dreamies are lower tier in popularity but I really don't see how it's difficult to do this.

i just mean it takes effort. even when you have amiibo cards.

of course new leaf was worse before the amiibo update, but once we had that, it was so easy. and trading was easy too because the people who you'll adopt it from will take a day (or instantly for those who tt).

i don't think we'll see a lot of villager shop's on trading forum this time around even when the glitch is fixed. because that means you have to do tasks for 3 days just to sell a villager online. so i bet they'd be sold at a much higher price-- this is for those who doesn't have amiibo cards. that's another thing, i used to have a shop for acnl villagers, and it was easy to cycle. add to that we can't have multiple towns now. and right now, people aren't doing dreamie shops yet because of the glitch tho.

i think i was misunderstood in which i was comparing the whole thing to new leaf, which doesn't even have islands where you can adopt so i'm aware. i was mainly talking about the 3 day thing for amiibo. was that really necessary? and as for the islands, i just thought it would be easier, you know. because they made it easy to invite villagers on pocket camp. and i thought that concept was something they're finally willing to include.
