So I recently reached the point where I have unlocked the ability to place DIY furniture and items while decorating homes for everyone. This has left me a little confused and loss directionally as I noticed that a lot of homes previously already had DIY crafted items and furniture available to order. I don't want to waste materials on DIY that seems preloaded in and would rather focus on filling the gaps.

Is it limited to only certain items and if so which items? Has anyone made a list that I don't know about for this?

I think it usually means that you can use DIY (themed) furniture from the catalog and use it to design client homes. I was confused myself but then I found out that certain DIY items like example most of the Log furniture were DIY can be used to place furniture. Lottie did mention to me about crafting, but for some reason It didn't let me use the crafting bench. Later in the game it seems that Niko is the only one who is trying to learn how crafting works and I think the more you do in the game you have to put materials inside the box so he gives you more crafting items.

Anyways. I don't think its limited, it just unlocks the vast majority of DIY furniture that can be crafted. It sounds confusing since they added so much new furniture and DIY its kinda hard to tell which is new or old.

You don't need to craft the items to use them, just to unlock them in HHP. For example, if you want to place multiples of a given DIY, you don't need to craft each one -- you just place them like normal furniture. Some DIYs can even be unlocked even if you've never crafted them as long as they're part of a villager's order.

You only need to craft DIYs if you want to unlock those, specifically, and any DIYs you've already made should be available.

Okay this does make a bit more sense. I think it was just confusing since I would see DIY furniture in the orders only to be told later that only now I could add them for decorating. Thank you very much for the clarification!

They said it better than I did, sorry if my post was misleading at all!

In my experience, I've found that DIY items do not show as available for use in HHP UNTIL I have crafted the item at least once. Once the item has been crafted by me, it shows up in the HHP catalog of items to use.
