Do caps, exclamation marks, and symbols make you more likely to view a thread?

I think it's annoying when people use all caps, exclamation marks, and symbols to try to make their threads stand out. I prefer titles that are actually descriptive and easy to read to determine if I'm interested. Do you find yourself more likely to click on threads with flashy titles or not?

Interesting discussion actually. I wouldn't avoid a thread for that reason but I don't think it really helps either way, despite what many seem to think. But then again, this is often used for trading boards and I don't use those much.

Now that I think about it, I'd like to make this same thread but give it a really spammy title and see if more people view it. I don't know if that's okay or not, but it would be an interesting experiment.

I suppose it depends.
I typically go to threads that have a title that explain what the thread is about.
If the title isn't descriptive enough most of the time I just ignore it.
I don't like all caps, I have been on a few forums that have that actually against the rules (having thread titles in all caps).
It's just obnoxious and feels like they're yelling at me. Why would I go into a thread where the OP is already yelling at me?
Answer: I wouldn't.

I'm more likely to click on threads that are straight to the point. All caps or excessive punctuation don't bother me. But I do get annoyed by those that are partial sentences with an ellipsis after. They don't make me want to view the thread they do the opposite and deter me.

I guess it really depends if the thread looks reliable I suppose? I can't really think of another word to describe it.

Yeah, if it looks like someone put some effort into the title of their shop and it's not over the top, then it makes their shop look like a serious shop and not just someone trying to sell their junk, so I guess it can help. But there are also people who put "LOW PRICES!!!" in their title and they are actually charging higher prices than other shops.

No, I like things that are more organized and straight forward than something with lots of symbols and punctuation, but it doesn't exactly bother me. It just feels as if it's like a sugar coating, which just doesn't quite feel right. It feels a bit odd.

It doesn't attract me nor make me want to not click it but I can't say that is helps. I mean there are certain threads that have broken symbols and those make me not want to click on them

no. if anything, it's annoying as hell. i'm not in for 'text decoration' or whatever its called, its unnecessary. unrelated to the topic, but it also annoys me when people decide to make the front page of their shops consist of several reserved posts. what's the point of that? just do it all in one post, unless its a collab shop or whatever

I care more about content. But, if it seems more professional-looking, I'd probably be more inclined to take it seriously.

Yeah, interesting-looking thread titles usually catch my attention. Hey, if it works, it works.

Then again, if everyone started TYPING IN BLOCK CAPS then they wouldn't stand out anymore, so... meh.

I don't care, but I do think symbols make things harder to search for which I find inconvenient.

It depends. You can do some cool patterns with symbols to make them look appealing, full capitals are stupid (Of course, capitalizing a title is absolutely normal... but, did you jam your Caps Lock button?), and... I'm fine with exclamation marks.

Mild dyslexia makes it hard enough to read small font, much less when it's all jumbled with special characters, capitals, symbols, or alternating styles.

I admit, a lot of the threads on here with really catchy titles do catch my attention, but it depends on where it is. If it looks like it's a shtposting or an iffy thread and there's going to be a flamewar or drama in it, it'll definitely catch my attention. As far as them being in the trading boards though, it doesn't really catch my attention or annoy me.

I definitely won't avoid a thread because of it, but it certainly doesn't help. I think it depends on the context of the thread. If it's a trading thread with tons of caps and symbols, it just seems childish and I might not want to deal with that when trading. Usually when I tend to click on threads like that, the entire thread inside is very unorganized, and can even have poor grammar.
