Do towns necessarily HAVE to have a theme? :/

I am just curious.

I had someone (not mentioning names for their own sake), come over to my town for a town viewing/rating, and they got to my town, were there for a second (it seemed like it anyway), and complained about several things, and also that I do not have a town theme. >.>

Um.. well, as far as i'm concerned they do not have to have a town theme? My town theme is just.. a normal town o.o

Anyway, I wanted to ask you guys, do towns HAVE to have a town theme? Or can they just be a normal town?

No, they don't. But if you want a town that would be rated highly, a themed town would probably make people more impressed. IMO, I don't care wether a town has a theme or not; If it looks good, I'll like it. But I noticed a lot of people seem to rate towns with themes higher.

Well, if they don't like your town for what it is, then they don't have to come over!

There are a lot of non-themed towns out there. If you're comfortable with it and can get around easily, that's all that matters.

Of course not! Your town - your town.

But if you ask for a rating, you should also expect critique. They were probably just dissapointed that your town was very normal and there was probably not much to rate in that case. I wouldn't really like it either if someone specifically told me to come rate their town and it's just houses in random locations and some PWP:s here and there, if that's what your town is like.

Most people dont have themes I certainly dont... I know for a fact I'm going to be playing this game at least another 2 years, I know I'm gonna be bored if I perfect it within 4 or so months of getting the game. It's your game, create your town at your own pace.
