Do Villagers sell their gifts back to you?

Okay, sorry for the lame question. I just can't find a confident answer while searching online. Lets just say, I gift one of my villagers a clothing gift, will they eventually sell it back to me back while the days go by or is it just a myth...???

I don't know the specifics of the code, but from personal experience it's kind of true, or at least with gifts from other islanders' requests. All my islanders have received a clothing gift at some point, and they have then sold or gifted them to me or my mom. After doing that, they have never used it afterwards, so I'm guessing the clothes were permanently removed from their inventory.

It’s true in my experience too. My villagers sometimes give/sell clothes I’ve gifted them to my second character. I’ve never seen them wear it after that so I assume it was taken out if their wardrobe.

Thanks, I'm still waiting for one of my villagers to sell me an clothing item that was gifted to them from another villager to see if that item will still be in their wardrobe. Still trying to get rid of the fake abs thing from one of my cranky villagers on my 1st island ......

I haven't personally experienced this in playing since launch, and I regularly gift my villagers clothes (not disputing any else's experience). I only have one character on my island if that matters.

Occasionally villagers I have adopted from other players/islands have given me an item of clothing from their old island, but I'm not aware of them gifting/selling back anything I have given them.

I've given some of my villagers more than 24 gifts over time, and I think the old items that are cycled out (especially clothes) are those gifted back. But I could be completely wrong and remembering it differently.

BUT! I am VERY CERTAIN in this one incident. My adopted villager, Rolf, sold me that one outfit that his previous island rep gave him.

I have had it happen before even just a day or two after I gifted it. In general I’ve also found that when a villager moves out they can leave one or two of the things I gifted behind in the bin at resident services. They’re totally not above re-gifting, even to the same person!!

I've lost track of what I've gifted villagers and then what they've given me, but I'm sure they have sold gifts back to me! and like others have said I've *definitely* found gifts I've given them left in the bin after they're gone

That's on purpose, they just give back what they got from you when they leave!

yeah I know haha, but it's very amusing for me to imagine villagers packing up to leave and just thinking "oh, resident rep gave me this? trash"

I don't think I've so far received back anything that I have gifted to my villagers, they always just seem to give me sport related clothing that I haven't given them, starting to think they're trying to tell me something

Lately my villagers been giving me cooking clothing.... maybe they're trying to make me learn to cook for them lol

I'm pretty sure my villagers have given me clothing I've gifted them before or tried selling it to me...it was clothes that they never wore either after I gifted it to them.
