Not in the English version no. But apparently Merengue's German name is Maria according the Animal Crossing Wiki so there's that. One of the reasons why I like her and want her in my New Leaf town that I've just started up unfortunately no room for her in my NH island. I hope in the future there's a character named Maria in the English version.

On another note, my mom shares a name with Rhonda the rhino. Which I was surprised with because I've never met another Rhonda besides my mom.
