I have seen a few threads on DLC or relating to it, so here is a poll on if you would like paid DLC in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

In my opinion. I say no. I don't want ACNH to be full of popups to buy things and be a money grabber. I also like the idea of earning everything in AC games opposed to buying it. Lastly, paid DLC usually makes the game more fun for people who pay, and less fun for people who don't pay, as they save really fun features for the paying members. It also kind of separates players in paying and non-paying people which is no fun, as the paying people get more rewards and items making the game better for them. I already paid $60 for the game which is a lot, and I really don't want to pay more to be able to enjoy the game to it's maximum potential.

I would love good DLCs but not micro transactions. They are really money grabbers and nothing else. Yes I am looking to you Ubisoft!

But good DlCs which are worth the money and add something to the gameplay why not? If you don't want to buy it don't do it. DLCd are so common now! What I don't like are unfinished games which get dlcs to wrap everything up. That's just lazy :p

I mean, of course free updates/DLCs are always preferred over paid ones, so therefore the less money I have to spend on a game the better. Not sure if New Horizons even gets DLCs, but if it gets in fact some and you have to pay for them, then I would buy those if they are worth their money, like for example adding a ton of new items or a new areas. Otherwise, I would just ignore them, as I wouldn't spend money on something which isn't drastically needed at all and doesn't change my gaming experience in a better way.

I think it makes sense that most people are saying no. Animal Crossing is meant to be a game of freedom and something that is meant to be enjoyed by people of all ages and of all gaming skill levels.

I believe something that screams paid DLC will confuse casual gamers and make it less fun for small children.

I think if there is paid DLC, it has to be subtle, like with the amiibos in New Leaf.

-------------------------------

Paid DLC works for other games like Smash Bros. and Pokemon because those games are more likely to be played by devoted fans of videogames.

--------------------------------

At least, this is what I believe to be true. I hope I said it in a way that makes sense.

There is no way that paid DLC will be subtle; quite the opposite in fact. If there is paid DLC at some stage in the future it will be a significant expansion on the main game, like a new area to visit.

I like the way you said this, and I agree with you about Aimbos. I think they are fine and should be included in NH. They really are more of just for fun, and do not change the gam-play to much! Also, the nice thing about them is one of you friends can let you use them, so they don't feel like a paid DLC because multiple people an use them, and also trade the items you obtain with them.

No offense, but I would hate that kind of DLC becuase it would make it unfair to people you don't want to pay more in the game than they already did for the game.

Nope! Let's not turn Animal Crossing into a sellout game.

Free DLC is fine of course!

No microtransactions, just gonna put that out there.

That being said, AC already has implemented a sort of paid DLC in the form of things like amiibo cards, specifically the amiibo card exclusive characters. If the DLC was done, I hope they do it in the same way Pokemon does were other people can still acquire the items and stuff you get from it through trading.

But at the end of the day, as with all games, I'd prefer no paid DLC. Free updates/DLC are always welcome!

This is kind of why I find it difficult to see DLC happening at all as it's not easy to get the balance right. But they couldn't expect people to be happy with buying item packs or events, could you imagine the uproar if they did that? They'd probably lose half their fanbase!

thats the thing with DLC that I would hope nintendo would be aware of, bad implementation or immoral micro-transactions can destroy games (looking at you Star Wars Battlefront II)

Exactly. I'm still leaning heavily towards free updates every 6-12 months, just like with Mario Maker 2. That works for me.

I think most people see "DLC" and panic, thinking its microtransactions. I want DLC, definitely. Paid or not, I don't care. I want it. I've always had problems with Animal Crossing getting stale after a few years, especially during holidays. If DLC will bring in fresh content and items, I'd welcome it.

New Horizons isn't going to be like Pocket Camp, and I think people need to start understanding that now. There won't be leaf tickets, there won't be popups, there won't be DLC that you have to buy in order to continue the game. DLC adds a lot to games that need it after a few years. There's also no reason to believe that DLC is released because a game is 'incomplete'. Nintendo does a good job realizing they can offer more to a game later down the road. No one is making anyone pay for items, DLC is always optional. Of course free DLC is better but video games are not a right and not owed to anyone. Plus, with the way New Leaf was with the Sanrio Cards, you could still trade items to those who didn't have the Sanrio cards. This might actually help the player based economy as well, in order to trade off items from the DLC.

I just want as much content for this game as possible and I don't mind paying extra for content that is high quality.

Pretty neutral on it myself. If there was really cool expansive DLC somewhere down the line (hopefully far down the line, not 2 months after release like Sw/Sh) I would be ok with paying for it. If it was something I wasn?t interested in I just wouldn?t buy it /shrug

If there was no DLC - or just small updates or whatever - that would be fine too as I?m sure the game will come with more than enough content on its own. :]

See, I would welcome paid DLC over amiibo. DLC doesn't take up room in your house or sell out to only be sold by scalpers for 8 times the original price.

There are loads of games that do DLC great - Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda BOTW, Borderlands 2.

Please no... I already don't like that they charged so much for Pokemon SWSH DLC (but I paid anyway cuz I'm a nerd). I would so much rather it be free. Like it always has been. We never paid a dime for Welcome Amiibo so why charge us now?

Nintendo is becoming really greedy lately. Like look, the Switch costs a crap ton, and then you pay for the game, and then you pay for the online Switch services, and then now you pay for DLC?? Nuh uh. That's not gonna fly for ANYONE. Especially those from lower income sources. Like god, are they trying to run us all broke??

And that's the end of my paid DLC rant.

It’s fine with me if there is paid DLC. As long as it’s not like just a furniture pack for a ridiculous amount lol. I doubt Nintendo would do that though. Their DLC is usually pretty good for their games.

I would buy DLC if it was a 2nd island. It would be nice for players that share an island and for players that want more than one island. The price would be lower than buying a new game.

Also would buy digital amiibo villagers and NPC. If the DLC is like Pocket Camp I'll pass.

i would pay for it if it was something good, like the octo expansion in splat2, but i don't think they would introduce paid dlc for a while. Nintendo was successful in introducing paid dlc through the amiibo cards and figurines and they know us their fanbase. My hope is they put more work into implementing amiibo into nh, so the cards can get more use and so that they can introduce new ones of old characters who didn't make it past previous games. Amiibo cards bring in enough of a demand that i doubt any other forms of paid dlc will be introduced for at least another 2 years. That being said, if and when any other form of paid slc is introduced, im probably going to buy it if like in splat 2, it brings forward extra game modes for individual enjoyment. Also, i want them to bring back champ!

Yes, but only if it offers some major functionality. For example, if there was DLC that let you add another town save (so you could have multiple towns), that would definitely be worth paying for. Because you would normally be paying for that option anyway, whether you had to buy another memory card (like on GameCube), another copy of the game (as with New Leaf), or another system.
