Yes, but only if it offers some major functionality. For example, if there was DLC that let you add another town save (so you could have multiple towns), that would definitely be worth paying for. Because you would normally be paying for that option anyway, whether you had to buy another memory card (like on GameCube), another copy of the game (as with New Leaf), or another system.

I disagree with this. The ability to have a second town save is something that could be incorporated with very little effort. To expect somebody to pay money to have that option become available would be sacrilege.

As I've said in similar threads before, I'd be just fine with paid DLC as long as it's something that feels like it's worth it, like an expansion. It needs to feel like something they worked on after the fact and not something they could have added in at the start. No microtransactions, outfits that are for anything other than a charity, etc. If it feels like an expansion pack, I'd be happy to have it.

At least it would cost less than buying another switch/lite! I know some people who have bought 4 switches in preparation and omg.

But that's my point, if Nintendo would just open the option up on the title screen people wouldn't have to buy multiple Switches.

Overall, I would not want paid DLC, but if I had to pay like ONCE to unlock something and that was the only DLC ever I would be fine. I would not like a one time DLC for like a map extension as that would be unfair, and I would absolutely not want a DLC every week or month for multiple things like furniture like pocket camp.

I don't want it, but if it happens then I wouldn't be opposed to buying it if it seemed good. Considering the welcome amiibo update was free (arguably to encourage amiibo sales but that's besides the point), paid DLC in this game would not be too much of a kicker. I struggle to think how it would work though, since new areas being unlocked isn't a huge game changer (especially if they're shops, since people could just buy on behalf of others), but maybe new multiplayer minigames might be DLC or something.

The Good. More content for years to come.

The Bad. Greed.

The Ugly. Sets a precedent that Nintendo will forever get away with pulling EA tactics on us.

I think they should opt to save the game to the cartridge. That way I can own 2 switches move the game cart between the two keeping my save.

Yes ! I'll gladly pay for Nintendo to add content to the game the way they do with Super Smash Ultimate, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, Luigi's Mansion 3, etc.

I don't want Nintendo to release New Horizons with paid DLC in mind if that makes sense. I want a full and complete game on release date that maybe has paid DLC down the line if there's a natural idea that comes along. I just hate when games release and then are already planning for DLC.

Yeah, I'm fine with DLC. Release a new, complete game, and make it even better through large-scale DLC paid expansions.

Whether it was the failure of the Wii U or not, New Leaf and New Horizons now has the longest gap between any main series Animal Crossing game. If we are now going to be waiting 6-8 years for each new game to release, I definitely think it's time for paid DLC which can breathe new life into each title before the next one drops.

I wouldn't mind paying for DLC as long as it's good, for example if they drop a new line of fruits/flowers/buildings etc and it was a biiiig drop. I don't want to get sucked into micro transactions similarly to PC because I feel like people who really enjoy the game and maybe saved to purchase would then be missing out on good DLC and have to then save again just so they can join in.

No? If they have additional content they can release it as a free update... they likely won't, but why would anyone want to pay for it? Pocket Camp alone is a monetary success, and New Horizons definitely won't need paid DLC.

I want additional content later down the line but I would obviously prefer not to pay for it. I would prefer it was a free addition.

I feel like a lot of people are equating DLC with microtransactions and theyre not the same other than you pay with actual money. New leaf's DLC added a lot, and I would be willing to pay to get more after the game has been out for a while.

DLC at the end of the day is optional. There's no real advantage to most people unless you're on a forum like this, then the DLC items or events will be sold because people will always want them. Animal crossing is a casual game where I don't see one person having an advantage over another player just because one paid extra for more content and the other didn't.

i honestly hate the idea of an open-ended game like animal crossing getting paid DLC. it's not an action based RPG or shooter or racing game, there isn't a story to complete, and we already have amiibo figurines and amiibo cards.

not to mention games like animal crossing are meant to be enjoyed for years and years after the game is released. what happens when the servers for the switch eshop come down? how are people buying secondhand games going to feel when they realize a giant chunk of the game is unavailable unless they buy a switch with that data downloaded already? what happens when our backups fail? at least with amiibo accessories they're physical items that we don't have to rely on nintendo to host them. people still have animal crossing e cards for the gamecube.

i don't like the idea of limited time DLC items because you can't complete your catalog without relying on someone to make a dupe or sell their only copies, but at least the DLC downloads we've gotten for animal crossing so far have been free.

Tbh I'm amazed that so many folks expect other people to work for free.

Like...do you? Do you do your job for free?

i guess for me, it would depend on what it was.
i mean, free dlc is always good no matter what game.
i suppose i would be able to deal with paid dlc if it was cheap, but it just doesn't seem to fit animal crossing to have paid dlc.

Depends on what it is, I guess.

I just hope the prices don't be high...
