Weird question in 2k18 but I was just archiving the photos on my 3DS and Wii. I was crushed to see that the Brawl photos (or Pokemon Snap photos for that matter) were not on my SD card, but while I remember the Snap photos being accessible on photo channel, the Brawl ones were only through the game. Before I go out and buy a working Wiimote I want to know if the pics have a weird filetype that only makes them interpretable by the game or something.

Unless you're using homebrew, all of the pictures stored in Wii's internal memory accessible through Wii Photo Channel can't be copied to a SD card. If you do manage to get WiiConnect24 working past its discontinuation, you could try finding these pictures via the message section of the Wii Menu, and then send them to your own email address added into your Wii's Friend Roster.

As for the pictures taken in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, they're all encoded in bin format. When saved to a SD card, they're located at [root]: private/wii/app/[either RSBE or RSBP]/al. Thankfully, it's possible to convert them into JPEG format by using a decryptor called bin2jpg.

As a side note: Wii games released prior to 2009 that features snapshots only support SD cards whose capacity does not exceed 2GB.

The photo channel ones being stuck forever is crazy...I can't imagine why they'd do that.
Thank you for the info, closing thread
