Does it Bother you That Houses are Smaller in General Now?

Definitely disappointed with room size downgrade. Decorating my kitchen was my favorite part; now it’s so tiny I really have to pick what to put in there and can’t make a “chef’s kitchen” like I usually do; even more disappointing considering we have more food items now due to the cooking and recipes addition, but a much smaller room to put it all in

It bothers more more that you can't choose what rooms you want in your house rather than the side rooms being small. All I need is a living room kitchen bathroom and a cool room for like collectables and game stuff. But I suppose I could make a laundry room and office. The side rooms are a tad too small which is challenging for a living room but at least we have the shimmy ability now which is really helpful for that. The entry room is tricky imo to use because if all the doorways so I may have that the kitchen idk. Villager homes are ok but I really wouldn't mine an upgrade for a larger room to use partitions better.

I don't know about your IRL homes, but none of the rooms in mine are perfectly square and all the same size. The varied size in NH houses for the side rooms gives it a more realistic feel, to me. To be honest, I struggled to fill all the rooms in my NL house, and the villagers were happy to tell me that they were empty!

Is there more stuff than I can display now? Sure. But it just gives me incentive to redecorate and change things up.

I really wish the rooms were bigger. I find it harder to decorate with small rooms. I love the idea of partitions but they don’t make sense in small rooms. It would be nice if we had the option of room sizes. Since everyone likes different sizes.

This is my same exact dilemma lol

I feel ya. Shimmy ability? What's that?

Good point.

Sameee and exactlyy. I love the idea of partitions too but they literally take up space and so it makes decorating so minimal in the smaller rooms. I hope they make updates that may end up resolving these issues some time in the near future. It's very clear that many people feel these ways and it's not just limited to a few people.

I def. miss being able to upgrade the size of all rooms like in new leaf. I'm much better at interior decorating than outdoors and I can't make the rooms look as nice as I want to.

I actually don't mind the smaller size we have as I remember finding the rooms in past games too big personally.

Though I do wish we could change room size like in HHP. Sometimes it would be nice to have a long room or short room for example.

It doesn't really bother me, but I definitely did notice it right away when I first started playing. I enjoyed the more spacious houses, but have grown accustomed to what we were given and made due with it. However that doesn't mean I won't be hoping for it to go back to the way it was when a newer game comes out in the future!

I really don't get why we can't at least expand our own homes like we do on HHP. With expanding villager homes I can see potential issues but why not with ours? It would be amazing to have a max possible size of 10 x 10 for each room of our house.

The shimmy ability. I don't know what it is officially called but it gives you the ability to put a table up against the log couch and still be able to sit on the log couch. Your character turns sideways between the table and couch and kinda wiggles in. It's like being able to walk in half squares.

I can’t say I’m happy that we don’t have the ability to upgrade our houses further, because it clearly upsets the vast majority and that would be selfish of me. So I’m sorry for everyone that you’re not happy about the max room sizes. :(

But I have to say I’m personally massively relieved. I was really nervous about the update. I just… personally DO NOT feel free when there are more options? Like at all. I reaaally feel pressured to build the biggest best mansion and fill it all out with stuff 😅, even though small rooms are so adorable

I'm not a big decorator but now that you've said this it's going to bug me severely when I do end up decorating my place any idea why they might of done this? Or did they just forget they changed it or something? I played NL and NH mainly WW and all that never really played enough + I was pretty young!

I'm guessing they changed it for technical reasons but I definitely miss the bigger room sizes, like in NL. I love decorating my house and there are so many things that I just don't have room for :( It also means that even if you have relatively few items in a room, it can be hard to navigate it and accidentally block an entrance or place two things too close.

I don’t mind the attic and basement being differently shaped, but I am frustrated that we can’t expand the side rooms to be bigger— I would love to have more space for a proper big kitchen, especially with all the new cooking supplies!

It bothers me that we don’t have more control/options in terms of room sizes. For example, I’d like to keep the entry room smaller and make the side rooms bigger. It’s frustrating that neither is possible.

yes i wish we had the option to upgrade our room sizes. doesnt make much sense considering new horizons focuses heavily on decorating, but its been an interesting challenge working with different dimensions at least

I think I’m the only who thinks they are too big? In previous games we had the ability to keep expanding each room, but they all started very small. On New Horizons the dimensions are larger than the smaller ones in New Leaf. I actually liked the option to have smaller rooms. Some of these rooms (attic and basement) have such an odd dimension. I just think for my taste that they are too long.

I would have liked to also choose what I want to expand. Right now I want to expand my storage, but I can’t because I haven’t built my last room. Since I will most likely not build it, I am stuck with a small storage forever.

I never played the old games like Population Growing so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. But from the video the OP posted of Bluebear's home in that game, it definitely seems bigger and more...interesting. I'm kind of curious about going back and playing that game now.

Even if they never let us change the main room for door reasons I wish they let us pick the sizes for the rest of them. I just don’t see why they didn’t they built a whole system for doing it and everything.
