Does it Bother you That Houses are Smaller in General Now?

Something I don't seem to get with the homes in the AC series is that why did they never bother adding doors inside the home? You know like when you have a big home you always have to walk into a room that has a door? Since they introduced these partition walls in HHP I was kinda hoping they would take it a step further to add doors, but without them they look really weird. I hope maybe in the next AC game they can add doors inside our home and villager homes. Maybe I'm being a bit critical but I always find it weird how there are no doors inside any home.

It doesn't really bother me, but I definitely did notice it right away when I first started playing. I enjoyed the more spacious houses, but have grown accustomed to what we were given and made due with it. However that doesn't mean I won't be hoping for it to go back to the way it was when a newer game comes out in the future!

Or maybe even as an update in NH if we keep raising our voices up and communicate with them ;)

I really don't get why we can't at least expand our own homes like we do on HHP. With expanding villager homes I can see potential issues but why not with ours? It would be amazing to have a max possible size of 10 x 10 for each room of our house.

100% agree.

The shimmy ability. I don't know what it is officially called but it gives you the ability to put a table up against the log couch and still be able to sit on the log couch. Your character turns sideways between the table and couch and kinda wiggles in. It's like being able to walk in half squares.

Ohh. Interesting. I see what you mean. The wiggle-in-between thing lol. Yeahh. That was a pretty cool add on they gave us.

I can’t say I’m happy that we don’t have the ability to upgrade our houses further, because it clearly upsets the vast majority and that would be selfish of me. So I’m sorry for everyone that you’re not happy about the max room sizes. :(

But I have to say I’m personally massively relieved. I was really nervous about the update. I just… personally DO NOT feel free when there are more options? Like at all. I reaaally feel pressured to build the biggest best mansion and fill it all out with stuff 😅, even though small rooms are so adorable

😂 😂 That's fair.

I'm not a big decorator but now that you've said this it's going to bug me severely when I do end up decorating my place any idea why they might of done this? Or did they just forget they changed it or something? I played NL and NH mainly WW and all that never really played enough + I was pretty young!

Not sure. I've reflected over this and what I kinda concluded was that they were so focused on appealing to people's mental satisfaction and fulfillment and evolving and become much more than what they were previously, that they kind of forgot about the core Spirit that makes a game heartfelt on the deepest level in the first place. I mean the game has that Spirit, but I feel like they capitilized more on appealing to our quirks, biases, need for expansion, etcetc such as an insane amount of new items, terraforming, hairstyles, clothing and so on that they kind of left less room for the Spirit. Probably unintentionally in all honesty.

But that's what getting caught up in being too heady and in the mind does lol. On one hand it improves things drastically, and on another hand you lose sight of other things. The key is to always remain in Spirit. It's not just Mind and it's not just Spirit. You need that balance of both. They kinda sat a little more on the Mind side of the seesaw for lack of better expression in NH. That's how I see it at least. Could have also been that they were so focused on making something so drastically expanded for money purposes too. But yeah, that's pretty much the same thing because that kind of desire for money derives from the mind. In general I very much feel it's because they got too in the Mind and forgot about the overarching core Spirit. Then again, ya can't make everyone happy. But they could've have made thousands if not hundreds of thousands happier if they had more of that balance.

I think I’m the only who thinks they are too big? In previous games we had the ability to keep expanding each room, but they all started very small. On New Horizons the dimensions are larger than the smaller ones in New Leaf. I actually liked the option to have smaller rooms. Some of these rooms (attic and basement) have such an odd dimension. I just think for my taste that they are too long.

I would have liked to also choose what I want to expand. Right now I want to expand my storage, but I can’t because I haven’t built my last room. Since I will most likely not build it, I am stuck with a small storage forever.

Never say neverrrr "Justin Bieber voice" lol

I never played the old games like Population Growing so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. But from the video the OP posted of Bluebear's home in that game, it definitely seems bigger and more...interesting. I'm kind of curious about going back and playing that game now.

I 101% highly recommend it. Although it might end up making you feel disappointed about NH lol. Then again, since you got drastically better things in NH, it could go either way. They got rid of a lot of the epic things in PG and replaced them with a lot of epic things PG never got to have. They should've just kept both honestly. Are at the very least given us options to choose.

it did at first, but now it doesn’t bother me all that much anymore. interior design is something i’ve always struggled with, despite it being something i enjoy doing, so having less room to work with and worry about is honestly kind of a relief for me lol.

As someone who is more into interior designing rather than making some extravagant island, I'm disappointed with the downgrade in room sizes from what we had in New Leaf. It's made worse when considering that you can give villagers two 10x10 rooms in Happy Home Paradise. I've expressed it before in other threads, but my design ideas have been ruined on more than one occasion because of the awkward dimensions of the second floor and basement and the back and side rooms being so much smaller is annoying. While there's a lot to love about New Horizons, this is one of a number of aspects that will forever keep New Horizons below New Leaf for me when it comes to personal enjoyment.
Same; I love interior designing a lot more and it’s why I have 5 characters on my island 😂. I actually like the elongated style of the attic/basement, but it has definitely ruined some designing aspects for me. The smaller side and back rooms are terrible and I wish I could have the New Leaf option of upgrading them or keeping them at a certain size. And because of this, I’m super frustrated that we got game changing decorating like the walls, pillars, and counters, but can’t upgrade our room sizes on the mainland. Like, what the heck is that? 😭😭😭
