Dragon Quest Builders 2 thread

Nice! So far I haven't played online, I want to build something showworthy first :')

I want the monsters to stop attacking and destroying my things T_T. Will they stop once I finish the story?? They're driving me nuts!

Yes! At the end of the game you are able to unlock the 'Seal of Erdrick' at the worktable, which then unlocks 'Mark of Erdrick'.
If you make the Mark of Erdrick and place it in the area on the Isle of Awakening, say for example somewhere in the Green Gardens, monsters will no longer spawn in the whole Green Gardens.

Omg YES I love it. Thank goodness :) I'm having so much fun on the 3rd main island. I'm almost done the story! Then I have the DLC stuff to do still. This game just keeps on giving lol. Did you get the DLC too?

I already finished the story and I have the DLC, but I restarted my whole game today :')

I felt like I've rushed the main storyline, just going from quest to quest, and not truely enjoying the environment, the people and just building.

I am in Furrowfield again, and last time I just did quests. "Oh you guys need a toilet?" and then I just quickly built one and moved on.
This time I am working on the layout of the farm, making pathways, little waterfalls, and taking my time.

I am already enjoying it more :)

Yeah I had so much fun on Furrowfield. I actually took my time because I loved building everything! (Also since my game glitched and made me stay there for a long time with no hope of progression LOL). it was great! I'm glad you're having fun that way too!

Although my approach for the next islands was to just build what was necessary until I finish it and then rebuild once the story is over so i don't have to worry about monsters ruining everything. But I'm definitely taking my time with the story and just having fun. I'm not trying to rush to finish ^_^ I kinda am predicting what's gonna happen in the end but it's the getting there that's really exciting! I love all my little villagers and my best buddy Malroth lol

Also..

Do you get to keep the cat on Skelkatraz? I tried to talk to it or feed it but it didn't follow me :( so I left it there but now I can't seem to revisit the island. Did I do something wrong or do I eventually get to go back and get him?

About the cat

I am not sure. You are able to recruit cats from one of the Explorer Shores. Post-game the island of Skalcatrez (or however I spell it xD) does show on the map when you talk to Captain Brownbeard, but you cannot chose it as a sailing location. Dunno if it changes later postgame, because man, new things keep unlocking even after beating the game (^_^)

How far are you along in Moonbrooke? I really enjoyed the story but there were some parts I was like "NO! Don't do this! Why is this happening?" some of which is why I really rushed and pushed the story along cause my heart couldn't handle it (T_T) I seriously NEEDED to beat the game.

Thia game is soooo good <3

Question: I'm looking to buy a new game for my Switch, and I had my eye on the first Dragon Quest Builders game for a while, but now I cannot find the physical version, so I want to know if it is worth buying the digital version of the first game? Or can I skip it and get Dragon Quest Builders 2?

Also, is the game worth it? I heard many good things and I tried the demo, but it didn't not have as much stuff to experience as the first game's demo, but I enjoyed the first demo a lot.

I'd say definitely worth, but then again, I am currently addicted to it :') I soak my every free hour into this game.

I bought the digital version, because it was a Saterday that I played the demo, and it would take till Tuesday to receive a physical copy, and I didn't want to wait.
It works perfectly fine, so unless you like to collect the original boxes, you can buy it this way.

I haven't played the first game, nor am I planning on doing so now.
So far I heard, it's a bit more tedious, since your tools and weapons wear and break, so you need to keep making new ones, you have to fix your base after boss fights (in DQB2 your villagers repair your base) and inventory space is more limited (I have almost no need for chests at the moment).
I've heard a few say that the second game has more RPG elements into it, which is a big plus for me.
In conclusion, the second games spoils you rotten XD
It might be better to start with the first and get the second later.

Story-wise I love the second game, it really had me hooked and took me about 60-70 hours to complete, definitely worth my money.

But this is just my opinion, you might want to read more opinions and reviews :)

And I now remember why I rushed the main story again. The game tends to keep you busy. One reviewer said it perfectly on how this game is so addicting:
"You just want to finish that task and then you get the next task and you're like 'Eh, I could finish that before bed' and you just keep going going and going until your switch tells you your battery is dying and it is 4 in the morning and you should probably go to bed."

Omg I know how you feel T_T I was so upset! I kept trying to talk to Malroth. I even tried digging underneath his cell.. I just hated it soo much. Like I just wanted to fix things between us and it was really frustrating that no one would listen to me or let me near him. Ugh. I wanted it to be over too!

I just got to the monster area. Such a surprise to find out it is an actual town to build up. I thought Moonbrooke was the last one. I really love this game! Like I barely think about New Leaf or New Horizons because of it LOL!

Honestly, you can totally skip the first one. The games don't follow the same story and from what I hear, Builders 2 is a vast improvement. Of course it's up to you, but I can 100% recommend DQB2. I also hear that the first demo is much better than the second one. The intro tutorial in the game is a bit tedious but once you finish that, the game vastly opens up and improves. I dont think the demo is a good indicator of how amazing the game is.

Also, one thing to note is I've been noticing frame rate drops. I'm not too sensitive to it so it's fine. But if you're sensitive, you might have to consider the ps4 version if you can. I personally like the switch cuz of the portability but if you plan on visiting other people's towns (like a dream suite kinda) and they have very full builds, the frame rate goes wayyy down. You can watch videos of this. But if you just care more for solo play and story, I don't think it's that bad.

I say try it. I really fell in love with it, more than I thought i would. And i don't regret getting it on switch either. :)

having played both, i think you'll be fine if you just dive into the second one. the first is a lot of fun of course, but 2 is a pretty vast improvement in almost every way (aside from maybe music selection, and i don't recall the disembodied voice in dqb1 taking 15 years to finish talking).

the most significant upgrade is how the separate chapters/islands work in 2 compared to 1. in 2, once you've completed a chapter, the game lets you recruit a set number of residents from that chapter and also lets you revisit that island whenever you want (in most cases, anyway).

in 1, the only way to revisit that area is to revert to a previous save, and the game's version of island of awakening is more like a free play mode that's detached from the story entirely.

i think you'll probably still like 1 if you enjoy 2, but my interest in the game dropped pretty hard once the story mode was over.

Well, it's glitched for me again T_T. My villagers aren't progressing their building. Won't specifically say what so I dont spoil but it's been stuck at 69% and the villagers are still animated as though they're building it but they aren't actually. Going to restart my game. Hope it fixes itself again because I'm not too into building it myself lol. But in guess it's not the end of the world if I have to..

Do they have all necessary materials? I've also had them in building animations, but it didn't progress because they didn't have enough wall-blocks.

I am finally satisfied with the Green Garden on my island, and me and Malroth just headed off to the second island! :D

Yeah it was completely full of materials. In fact they were depleting my materials without actually building lol so a lot got wasted. I started building the thing myself and then I decided to destroy and move the storage container and then they randomly started doing it again. So I'm glad that it fixed itself, it was really tedious building it myself Haha.

Ooh! That's exciting for you! I just finished the game so I'm super excited to just start building! ^_^

Yeaah this is my second run of the game, so I know what's going to happen hahaha. But I am taking time to talk to everyone continuously, and making some work of my building instead of "walls-door-interior-done", making layouts, roofs, decorations, I am really enjoying that!

I already discovered room recipes I haven't had before just by experimenting in my builds ^_^

Lemme get a pic of my Furrowfield and Green Garden ready, I'll upload them in a bit.

Here's how I left Furrowfield behind. I'll put it in a spoiler for those who haven't played yet.

And my home island in the Green Gardens, happy with it so far! Build the tree in front myself, it needs some extra leaf blocks, but it grows acorns on its own!

The first game is a lot of fun, but it's kind of limited. It's mostly due to the fact that the 1st Builders was created with PS Vita in mind, which has much less power than Switch. But the story, music and the things you'll be doing in the first game are pretty amazing.
I'd say - play the 2nd Builders and spend as much time as you can and want, but get the 1st game when it goes down in price a little. Then take a break from the game and play the first just for the story, it's worth it! :p When comparing them side to side - 2nd game is obviously better, but it's not like we have Builders or Dragon Quest coming out every year. So, if you like the 2nd - get the first game, toobut only when it will be less expensive because 65$ for Builders 1 is a bit too much - I personally got it on PS4 for about 15$. :p

If anyone haven't seen the news - August 8th will bring a final update for the game and final portion of DLC!! The DLC have been amazing, from what I know - so be sure to pick them up and update your game on 8th! : )

It's funny actually cuz I think Switch got the full DLC right away! I bought the season pass like... 2 weeks ago? And everything literally unlocked the moment I bought it.. but it's weird cuz I didnt get the 3 free "hotto" recipes.. instead I got a free designer glasses or something.

Wow, really?? I think if you pre-ordered it, then that's why you got it early! I haven't got around to playing it yet (arghhhhh @_@), so I haven't checked, haha.

Also! I'm pretty sure that the 3 free recipes and glasses need to be claimed. Just go to eshop and find the game's page and these DLC should be marked as "Free". : p I had to claim mine, too despite pre-ordering the season pass, hah. @_@

i think just having the season pass will unlock all the dlc immediately, i love the series but i didn't bother to pre-order beforehand.
