Dragon Quest Builders 2 thread

i think just having the season pass will unlock all the dlc immediately, i love the series but i didn't bother to pre-order beforehand.

Ohh I see. That's interesting, I've never seen any dlc season pass to work like that but I'll take it! I didn't preorder either. I actually bought the game cuz I remember I was mildly interested in the original one long ago but since a new one was coming out eventually, I never gave it a try. Then found out it came out and just bought it without doing any research or watching any trailers. Lol. Thank goodness there wasn't any preorder bonus that I missed out on!

Wow, really?? I think if you pre-ordered it, then that's why you got it early! I haven't got around to playing it yet (arghhhhh @_@), so I haven't checked, haha.

Also! I'm pretty sure that the 3 free recipes and glasses need to be claimed. Just go to eshop and find the game's page and these DLC should be marked as "Free". : p I had to claim mine, too despite pre-ordering the season pass, hah. @_@

Ohh okay! I'm gonna check the eshop tomorrow after work then! I really don't wanna miss out on the extras! And actually noo I didn't preorder it! I didn't even know there was dlc until after I already bought the game hehe. So I don't know how I just got it all right away. Thunder says it could be automatic with the purchase of the season pass so that's cool :)

Yeaah this is my second run of the game, so I know what's going to happen hahaha. But I am taking time to talk to everyone continuously, and making some work of my building instead of "walls-door-interior-done", making layouts, roofs, decorations, I am really enjoying that!

I already discovered room recipes I haven't had before just by experimenting in my builds ^_^

Lemme get a pic of my Furrowfield and Green Garden ready, I'll upload them in a bit.

- - - Post Merge - - -

Here's how I left Furrowfield behind. I'll put it in a spoiler for those who haven't played yet.

And my home island in the Green Gardens, happy with it so far! Build the tree in front myself, it needs some extra leaf blocks, but it grows acorns on its own!

Omg the photos look great! Which island are you most excited to finish building?

Yeah, it should be automatic with Season Pass but only if your console is set to download updates automatically. That said, the 3 free recipes need to be claimed. :p

Woo-hoo, I started playing today!!! So good! The game feels so different from the first one, wow. : o If there'll ever be Builders 3 -I have no idea how they'll top the 2nd one - seriously, so good!

I got to the moment where
you get to see the noticeboard with all the pictures, and worlds - wow!

I am soooo playing it for the rest of my life, hahaha! XD

Yayy! I also don't see myself stopping any time soon! Lol! I could think of some quality of life improvements they could add and making the combat more fun but honestly the game still gets a 5/5 for me even with the flaws. Which makes me SO excited for the next one because if they improve upon it the same amount that this improved upon the original DQB game, then I'm betting that game will be absolutely mindblowing ^_^

I can't wait for you to progress more cuz I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did. I'm watching my bf play it too and I love seeing how much he loves it :) it's just one of those games that brings joy and creativity!

I agree! ^-^
I'll be playing more today. <3

My Joy Cons are malfunctioning and kind of ruining the game for me >.< coupled with the frame rate drops, it's really bad. I'm kind of upset cuz there's so much I want to do in the game that now seems tedious if I have to deal with it :( Why'd it have to break while I'm playing Builders T_T I thought the whole Joy Con drift would never happen to me but it did. Anyway...

I'm building the Castle that the Moonbrooke folk built. I'm really liking how its turning out but I realized how rubbish I am at making roofs lol. Also I noticed that the villagers have a hard time finding the bedrooms? There are doors leading to them from the inside but they keep trying to enter through the walls on the outside..it's strange lol.

Aww I feel bad for you :( hopefully you can get them fixed soon.

About your question, villager tend to take the shortest route possible. So if they can go over the walls because they can jump over it, they will try to do so (if theres stuff nearby they can jump on and then jump over the wall).

With roofs I don't have this issue, the only way to reach the beds is through the door, so they go in that way :)

Still adoring this game so much, just finished Khrumbul-Dun!

Fighto!

Oh gee, sorry to hear. : c
I feel like I'm the only one who didn't have drifting... so far, haha. Did you contact Nintendo? They should be able to help.
If you're not too fond of joy-cons, you can just get a gamepad instead. I'm pretty sure you can put the Switch in a tabletop mode and just play with a controller which isn't the same but if you don't want to have to deal with joycons drifting again - it's a good option.

I've noticed a line about frame drops bothering you and googled it up... it looks like the game does run poorly but mostly if you build a lot or play online. If it really bothers you - I can offer a solution and that would be get PS4 (preferrably Pro), as it will run the game in 60fps and you can build without any limits. I played Builders on PS4 and it was absolutely flawless. PS4 is a really good system anyways and there's quite a few exclusive games you'd like, I'm sure of it. So, I'd definitely be a good purchase. :p
But yeah, framerate can be very annoying in games and I'm sorry you started noticing it as well. : c I know that most people never pay attention to frame rate, it probably depends on one's health. Anyways, that's something we have to deal with, unfortunately. :( It often makes me feel limited when there's a good game I want but it's not running at 60 fps on PS4; my PC is kind of old and it can't run new games good so I just mark them in my notebook and set aside until I get a better PC.
My advice would be to look at the game and see if you really can't deal with frame drops - if that's the case, then getting PS4 version would be a good choice.

Also never mind the villagers, haha. They can be weird. In the first game they don't help you in any way except fights (and they always get defeated within minutes anyways =_+), so Builders 2 is a major improvement, when I first saw how your companions can help you get materials - wow, this was like a new world. XD But yeah, they can be weird and the funniest thing I saw so far was when I placed a bonfire on that first mission, and the girl would keep jumping around the fire, haha. I don't know if it was intended or she got weird. @_@

In the news: Square Enix will be holding a live-stream regarding the final update for the game in just 2 days - I'm pretty sure they'll add something new to the game as a "farewell" ^-^

Wow, some great news!
Builders 2 reached 1,1 million sales (which is very impressive, DQ XI sold about 4 million, from what I remember)!
The Final Update will launch in Japan on August 20th, so most likely around the same time for the West and it will add some nice things like more hair options, three data slots instead of one (!), an epilogue and even more! ^-^

Omg that's sooo exciting. Theres definitely something in there that makes me really happy but I don't want to spoil it. But its something that made me really sad in the game but now it's better with this update! Super cool :D

Is this game any good? I'm a Dragon Qeust nut but this just looks plain silly...

To be honest, the game is really really really good.

I've only played one Dragon Quest before (Dragon Quest IX for the 3DS) and it was nice.

This game far surpasses that.

I know you might think I am biased, but really, I don't think I am :)

When I saw trailers of this game (earlier this year and again at E3) I was like "Meh, looks too Minecraft-y for me."
I disliked it and it didn't even come to mind again.

Until a week after its release. My boyfriend (who is more into citybuilding and management games) decided to download and try the demo.
I watched him play it.
His reaction: "It's nice, but a bit too expensive. Might buy it in a sale or something."
My reaction: "Oh boy, that looks so good and so cute! Gimme that controller, I'm gonna try it now."

And after playing the demo I bought it with DLC and all XD

I don't know if you like RPGs, but the storyline in this game is really outstanding and definitely worth it even if you're not into the building aspect of it.
I spent 70+ hours on story alone, without straying to build something on my own.

And the building elements are really good too. Nicely formatted, lots of choices, a lot of freedom to build however you want!

Do try the demo if you're unsure, it doesn't give you everything that is possible, but it does give the the beginning of the story and some basic building experience.

What's silly about it? @_@ DQ Builders is true to DQ roots. All of the quirkiness of Builders is perfectly fit for Dragon Quest. :p

You should check out the rest of the series! Dragon Quest XI is gorgeous and I might even go as far as to say that it is the most beautiful and the cutest game I've ever played - I did it! It really is and the visual presentation is just brilliant.
They've also taken this unique approach for the story where the game encourages you to play without voice-acting - it came out in Japan without voice-acting, but the English localization added English voices; and now the Definite Edition on Switch added Japanese voice acting. But my point is - the game feels absolutely perfect without voice-acting, and that's how it originally came out in Japan. It's difficult to explain but if you'll play it without voices - you'll see what I mean.

The other Dragon Quest games are all great, too. They have two spin-offs (not counting Builders): that is Heroes and Monsters Joker. Heroes is more of an action game but it has a really nice story and the aesthethics are very close to DQ 11; really fun to play and you can meet all of the characters from the series. Monsters Joker is kind of like Pokemon but I personally didn't like Pokemon too much, but love Monsters Joker. :p
And of course the rest of the main series - 8 and 7 are remastered on 3DS and they feel very modern and sweet to play. DQ 4-6 they're more retro, obviously but good, too.

Essentially, all of DQ is great so I encourage you to try the other parts of the series! @_@

I can't wait to get this game!! I have to stop myself from watching gameplay videos because I don't want to spoil myself.

My parents were wondering about Christmas present ideas (lol, so early!) and honestly I thought DQB2 would be a great one, soooo I may have to wait until Christmas to play it 0.o Waiting will drive me bonkers but honestly I do have a list of other games I already have and want to play. I'm leaning toward the PS4 version, since PS4 games tend to go on sale more often and I've heard it lags less.

PS4 version is a little better because it has 60 frames per second which makes the game more fluid. I actually got the game on Switch but decided to get it on PS4, but that's mostly my personal issue - I'm very sensitive to framerate, I know that most people don't see the difference.
As of lag - apparently, the main story holds up good but if you start building a lot or go online - it'll get a bit laggy. So, yeah.

Both versions are great but if you think framerate can be an issue and you can choose - I suggest to go with PS4. And you're right, PS4 version will go on sale for sure. Switch and overall all Nintendo games tend to hold the release price (65$) for a very long time, especially if they're exclusive titles. DQ Builders 1 is still around 50-60$ on Switch when it's like 10$ on PS4. :p I saw Builders 2 PS4 going for about 45$ on Amazon and by the time Christmas comes - it'll probably be 30$. XD And I bet it'll be on Sony's Christmas sale, too.

Ooooh $30 would be perfect! And thank you for your input! I'm not too sensitive to framerate, but since I think I'll be building a lot (judging by how I play Minecraft lol) the PS4 version may be the better one for me. Although I'd love to have it portable....something to think about!

It will be a great experience no matter which version you choose!! ^-^

Indeed :) I don't have a PS4, only Switch, but I love the portability. I can play in living room on the television, or when my boyfriend watch Formula1 I can take it to handheld.
Or when I visit my sister, who also has the game on Switch, I can bring mine along.

But the framerate thing can be an issue I suppose. I do notice it sometimes, nothing too major, but smoother is always nicer!

Finally free building! I'm loving it so much although it's extremely challenging. I'm making a farm area, castle area, and tourist/entertainment area :) I wish I could post my snapshots but I still haven't gotten online.

Also, I'm so excited to try out the free update! I haven't done all the requirements to unlock the new content so I'll have to work on it.

Where is everybody at in the game? What are your plans? :)
