Well done. Like everyone else has said, it's a little difficult to get around, but I don't see that as being necessarily a bad thing with your town. The windy dirt paths add an element of mystery to your town and make it seem bigger. It also looks more natural having the paths not be straight.
The campsite is a well-developed focal point of your town which I like and the tent and it's interior decorating adds a nice touch. The mayor's house is good overall except for one part which I go over below. I like the explorer theme to the house and the back room is very nice. The cafe themed house is also good, but I didn't get the sloppy themed upstairs room.
There are some things I think you should change. The tower is kind of an eyesore in such a natural looking town. It just doesn't seem right to have a town full or natural paths and trees everywhere and then all of the sudden run into a huge illuminated tower. I'd also consider changing the playground area. It's okay, but again it seems out of place in a wild forest. If you can think of something more natural to do with the space then you should do it. The other illuminated stuff is pretty, but I still think it's kind of out of place in the forest. They are not as bad as the tower, but I still think you should go for natural PWPs whenever possible since you've put so much effort in making your paths natural.
The main house is good overall, but I think the kiddie themed bedroom upstairs is kind of off the forest theme. I think you should consider using some fish and bugs as decorations in your house to give your house that explorer / forest feel.
The presents with animal costumes are good since you can dress up as an animal to get into the theme more, but I think the balloons are unnecessary and kind of distracting. I don't think people want to open up a ton of presents to find their favorite balloon anyway, so you should either just have the balloons not in presents so people can find them easily or just get rid of them. The other presents scattered around are fine and add some fun.
That's about all I have to say. I know I critiqued your town a lot, but I really like it for the most part and appreciate the effort you put into it. I'd give it a 9/10.
Sorry for getting back to you so late! I didn't realize there was a new post in here! ^^;
I'm glad the feeling of mystery got across to you, because that's what I was going for as well as the winding dirt paths feeling more natural and unplanned. I'm also really happy you took the time to review the houses! I was getting sort of worried that no one would look at them, lol. The sloppy set was sort of meant to represent the waitress working so much that she doesn't have time to clean her room really, but I can make it seem more befitting to the town/caf?. I'm not a big fan of using bugs/fish in houses, but especially fish, just because most of them don't have pretty display cases. They're just in a box with no lid, and I just don't like the way it looks. I could see myself using a few bugs though; they're actually in a more realistic case. Although, I would probably only use them in the back room. I'm curious where you got the theme "explorer" from; I was going for more of a grandpa-y living room/study for the first room and the right room. I guess I can see how an explorers cabin might look a little something like a grandpa house, but when I was putting it all together, I was thinking more along the lines of "old man," lol. I know it doesn't really fit with what my mayor wears, but I just really liked the way the idea turned out.
As far as the balloons are concerned, I'm a bit confused on what you mean by "[they're] unnecessary and kind of distracting," only because there are only three balloons that I wrapped up and placed in my town (the pink balloon, the heart p balloon, and the bunny p. balloon). I can understand how so many presents can be overwhelming, though. I guess I just wanted dreamers to have a variety of presents/handheld items, but I could pick specific presents I want the dreamers to have in my town just so there aren't so many that they all can't be carried at the same time...
I sort of agree with you about the tower being an eyesore. I wanted it because my town is supposed to be french countryside/french forest themed, so I just wanted it since it represents the Eiffel Tower. I suppose that I could replace it with something though. Maybe the fence? Since i have a display of roses around it that look like the french flag, that would be a way that the flowers are a little more protected from being trampled on. For the playground, I thought about replacing the tiretoy with the statue fountain and making the path circle around it, but that would make the other PWPs in the playground more out of place... Idk, I really like the playground area, and it took some of the most time to plan it, since I wanted it so badly.
Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed dreaming of Laverre, and I hope you're able to see the finished product! ^^
I looked at your town again and the main house does seem more like an old person's house than an explorer's cabin. The fossil models, world map, globe, and ship model got me thinking explorer's cabin I guess. You don't have to use fish or bugs if your don't want to. I was just trying to think of something natural looking to decorate the rooms with. If you don't mind the house not fitting the theme and just want to do whatever with it, that's fine.
For the presents, I just opened up the 3 balloons and assumed all of the presents were balloons. I guess you have other stuff there too, but I think having so many presents there is overkill. When I visit a town, I want to start looking around and not spend a few minutes in the plaza opening presents. Maybe you could label the balloons and other handheld items so it would be easier for people to find something if they want it or you could spread the presents out to make it more interesting. With your town being a dense forest, you could make a scavenger hunt with the presents.
