Dumb question regarding multiple switches

If you have two switches and one game cartridge such as acnh, unless you transfer the data to the other switch would it be possible to have essentially two seperate games/saves on each console without one overwriting the other?

In the case of acnh if I created an island on one switch and then kept playing my original on the other would that work?

Random and stupid question but one of my friends recently got a switch so I am pretty curious.

Yes, the game saves to the switch console and not the cartridge.

Yep, me and my partner shared a cartridge between our switches for acnh (as well as pokemon and BotW) and it all worked fine ~

just like everyone else said, it save to console not cartridge. It's not like the 3ds
