I accept friend from people I know, not necessarily friends with, irl. I have a couple online friends I've met through forums that I'm friends with on Facebook as well. But I'd never accept a random request, that's just creepy lol. There's not too much they can see on my profile to be honest, people probably see me tagging people in stuff or them tagging me. That's basically all I use Facebook for, and messaging.
I only want people I know to see anything on my facebook (even though i barely use it). Adding someone you don't know not only affects your privacy but your other facebook friends too imo.
I have added friends I've met online, but that's only after a very long period of getting to know them and developing trust.
Do people really only accept people they know? I find it really hard to believe. A ton of my high school friends have 100-200+ friends/family added. And I just find it highly doubtful they genuinely KNOW all those people at an acquaintance level or closer. Yeah, you knew a guy from high school, or she's a mutual but have you ever even talked besides that one time you had a group project together or saw them in the hallway? Or that cousin thrice removed, do you even keep in touch much? I rarely see people I know have less than 100 friends added.
This is a hard question for me to answer, but I chose "I don't use Facebook". That's kind of a lie though, because technically I do use it, but it's pretty much only for two mobile games that I have linked to it with no other way to back up my data.
At the beginning of the year I completely deleted my old Facebook account, you could say it was my personal one because it did have information about me dating as far back as 2008. I had people added from school, and also some online friends, but the selection remained rather small. Still, most of the people I accepted from school I didn't actually know personally, or we couldn't even be considered friends, it was all most likely nosiness on their part. Eventually I got sick of it and all the other trash that comes with social media in general, so I wiped my account and scheduled it for deletion. It's one of the best things I've ever done, I don't miss it at all and I have no regrets. Facebook was extremely bad for my mental health and I'm glad to be free of it.
As for my new account (that only exists because Square Enix is too stupid to link Brave Exvius and Dissidia to their own account service), I've refrained from adding any personal information to it, and the only people I have added are immediate family and very few select FFBE players that I have chatted with in the game's Facebook group. Sure, I don't know them personally, but we get some perks in-game for being friends, and any personal information on my page is non-existent or set to private, including friends list, so it's as minimalist as possible. But when it comes to complete randos or old school peeps trying to add me, it's an instant decline.
I only use Facebook to keep in touch with my friends, I don't get requests that often anymore but when I do, I only add people I know irl. I do however have a few close online friends added though, they are the exception since they are close to me despite having never met. I just don't like not knowing who people are and them being able to see my posts. I hardly use Facebook , but still. You can never be too careful since Facebook uses a ton of personal data and information.
I accept requests from people I have communicated with, and there's quite a handful that I've never met in real life. I have some friends I've known for almost a decade now.
Part of it probably is because my interests are so niche that this is the only way I'd actually be "social" together.
So kinda strangers are ok as long as I've communicated with them in some form. I mean, I enjoyed going to the island in acnl and talking to randoms too. They were all very sweet.
i just accept them since i'm attention hungry. besides i'm only active in meme groups on there so we probably have similar interests if they wanted to add me
i only accept friend requests from people i know (with the exception of some strangers dming me because its usually people from my uni asking school related questions and im always up for helping with classes and giving info about professors etc)
I decline people I do not know personally. However, I have just started doing this. If I have been talking to someone online for a very long time, I would add them on Facebook, even if I have never met them in person. I have not personally met my best friend, but I would accept her friend request in a heartbeat.
I used to check to see if we at least have mutual friends. I've been on the same street for almost all my life, and it's not abnormal to know each other through others. However, I've had a rough past with an ex-boyfriend affiliated with people who can hunt you down if you know someone who hasn't... "paid up" (drugs, etc). Since then, I've had to be careful, and only accept people I know in person.
I got rid of FB.
But I have Instagram and the same applies with followers (since I'm private). I only accepted people I know and been friendly enough to the point I have some relative interest about their life that I wouldn't mind seeing their posts.
It's funny seeing people way back in middle school who used to never talk to me, or even bullied me at some point randomly try to add me. Lol, no, DECLINE.
with the exception of like two really close online friends i only accept people i know irl, i really need to go through my facebook though and do a clearance because i have 'friends' who i haven't spoke to in so many years
