LGBT+ representation in media is something I'm extremely passionate about. I've written numerous papers on the topic and also create my own LGBT+ content (novels mostly, directed a couple short films, wrote the script for a short TV series a few years back, and several scripts for a local theatre group). I could spend hours listing couples I love, but it'd probably be more meaningful to just share my all-time favourite fictional same-sex couple. That would be Roan McKichan and Paris Lehane from Andrea Speed's Infected series.

ian gallagher and mickey milkovich from shameless (US) own my heart. they suffered so much trauma over the years with mickey’s homophobic dad, ian’s bipolar diagnosis, etc and yet the series ended with them celebrating their first wedding anniversary, a happy ending that i didn’t think was possible for them but i am so, so glad i was wrong as they both deserve the world.

ohh i think that my favourite canon couple is adora and catra from the netflix shera remake, they are perfect and i loved watching the childhood friends to enemies to lovers trope! but i think my overall favourite pairing is takasugi x gintoki from gintama, although its not canon lol

Recently I watched the live-action adaptation of What Did You Eat Yesterday on Netflix. It's based on the manga Kinou Nani Tabeta by Yoshinaga Fumi. I owned and read the manga years ago.

I have to say that Kakei Shiro and Yabuki Kenji are my favourite same-sex couple. Kudos to the actors, Nishijima Hidetoshi and Uchino Seiyou, who did a fantastic job in the lead roles. ♥

unfortunately pretty much all the media i watch/play doesn't have same-sex representation so i dont have a favorite established couple. however i do like the idea that Whitney and Audie are dating lol. they're so cute.

I love the Best friends-to-lovers trope, I'm currently trying to write a story with my own characters with this trope.

Canon: SU’s Garnet, Catradora from She-Ra, and Victor and Yuuri of Yuri on Ice are definitely three of my standouts. I’m also very partial to a couple games that are very gay but not necessarily a single canon ship - Black Closet for PC is a favorite, highly recommend if you like Absurdly Powerful Student Councils and lesbians, and of them Vonne’s friends to lovers and Rowan’s ‘finally finding someone who doesn’t treat me like crap’ are my favorites. (I also love Thais’s route but she’s aromantic - which is what I love about it - to account for the fact that as a freshman and your PC as a senior, she’s too young for a romance route not to feel skeevy.) Also, Dina/Becky in Dumbing of Age are an excellent pairing in webcomics, and there’s a pair in Sleepless Domain who are too recent for me to not call spoilers, BUUUUUT… (squee!)

In ‘not canon but you have to stretch not to read it,’ Phoenix Wright/Miles Edgeworth of Ace Attorney far surpassed the realm of reasonable doubt in my opinion, and when the single longest held shot of Promare is the CPR/kiss of life one and the lyrics of EVERY SINGLE SONG are at least somewhat romantically charged, I feel comfortable calling Galo/Lio a thing. F/F couples like this are rarer because, y’know, media, but I do have A LOT of magical girl ships with no expectation a kids show in Japan is going to show Cures Summer and La Mer kissing any time soon. (However, they are cute middle school girlfriends, holding hands and being precious. This is just the truth to me.) Also from DoA, I believe strongly that Joyce is bisexual but doesn’t let herself recognize it yet. And, of course, Flick/CJ.

I was going to say ‘games with romanceable blank slate NPCs,’ but really, that’s just SOS for me. Among PC ships, and/or ships that aren’t remotely canon but I just think they’re neat, Iris/PC in Story of Seasons is my OTP especially now that she can be gay married, even if PoOT is… not the game I wanted it to be. (I also love Agate and Licorice from that one!) Iroha and Yuri from ANB are forever the best, and I like Komari/Kasumi only slightly less than I like Komari/PC in Trio of Towns. I also lowkey like Hinata/Yuzuki there but they’re also great as friends. (Can you tell I’m a lesbian from the shipping here?)

Just saying, yaoi is literally some of the worst representation for same sex couples and is mostly just fetishized caricatures depicted to appeal to straight women.



Anyway my favorite fictional same sex couple is Spongebob and Squidward.

Sailor Neptune and Uranus from Sailor Moon. They're a canonical couple, but when the show came to the US, they were censored and made into cousins. On top of it being messed up, the English dub still has them occasionally flirting which is just weird when they're supposed to be cousins. It's crazy to learn how many LGBT characters have been censored when brought to global audiences

Another couple I really like is Patrick and David from Schitt's Creek

first of all, big yikes at calling any lgbt relationships "yaoi and yuri". just... no... they're gay relationships, keep your weird fangirl/boy things to yourself.

secondly, i'm really happy with the relationship of lumity from the owl house, and am glad the writers managed to get disney "censoring a 5 second scene of implying two women in a relationship and a trans symbol" studios to greenlight it.
