June 13, 2008 - Fire Emblem is making its way to the DS, and the latest issue of Famitsu has the first solid details following the game's announcement last year.

Fully titled Fire Emblem: New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light (the English translation is our own -- Nintendo has yet to give the game an official English name), this first DS installment in the storied series is actually a remake of the original Fire Emblem. The basics of the game aren't being changed much from the original and its sequels as players alternate between event scenes and strategic battles.

There's one big difference here: online play. Developer Intelligent Systems is making use of Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connect service to give the title long distance multiplayer -- a first for the series. You begin an online battle by first creating a team using up to five units that you've built up in the single player story mode. Battles take place over versus-specific maps.

Fire Emblem hits the Japanese DS on August 7 at 4,800 yen.

Sweet. This is going to be my first FE game if it turns out well, anyone else looking forward to it?

Reminds me of what people said about Metroid Prime Hunters.[/quote]Eh, good point... but I liked Hunters' multiplayer. As did a lot of people. It was just the Metroid super-fans crying foul that their favorite series suddenly turned into a Halo-ish rip-off...

That's not happening with FE. I don't see the multiplayer really, you know... going anywhere...

Well, duh. FE's multiplayer has been sucking ever since they introduced it in the GBA games... I don't see what's going to change here.
