I've probably explained this about a million jillion kabillion times, but they can't really disable wifi capabilities for the consoles. Both the Wii and the DS/DSi games used a service for their online capabilities called Nintendo WFC. That is, unless they were on their own separate servers, like some EA games that are losing support on June 30th.

So to reiterate: WFC is being shutdown, and that's what most DS and Wii games use for online play.
