I have four of my six team slots currently figured out...but I am super weak to Flying-type Pokemon right now and am missing some other coverage just based on typing.

I have the following types on my team:
Grass
Fire
Bug
Psychic
Fairy
Dark
Ground
Poison

(Bonus points if you can figure out the guys I am trying to roll with!)

I feel like I have to have an electric Pokemon and need some water coverage. But I am also missing on important typings like Rock, Ice, Ghost, etc.

Interested to know what you all think! Keep in mind I need to fit in the rest with these two last slots on my team!

[I will share more in a bit. But I like the mystery just in case I end up playing against you dingalings!]

I should mention that, while this is non-competitive play, I am avoiding legendaries!

It seems fine, but it’s hard to help you out without knowing which Pokemon you are using. I would avoid using ultra beasts or tapus as well, because they are annoying as heck and should technically be classified as Uber.

Without knowing the exact Pok?mon and thus being unable to look into their move sets (as Pok?mon can learn moves of types they're not categorised under) it's hard for us to advise you.

A clear solution to a flying weakness though is to get a suitable fighting type Pok?mon.

Isn’t fighting susceptible to flying?

Anyways, I will skip the cleverness; this is what I have so far:

Torterra - Adamant
Rock Spikes (whatever the entry hazard is called)
Synthesis
Wood Hammer
Earthquake

Volcarona - Timid
Bugium Z
Bug Buzz
Quiver Dance
Psychic
Flame Charge

Gardevoir -
Gardevoirite
Calm Mind
Moon Blast
Psychic
Double Team

Alolan Muk - Adamant
Toxic

Fighting is susceptible to flying, but a LOT of fighting types can learn rock and dark type moves to counter flying and psychic types. The only other option is to use a rock/electric/ice type Pokemon.

Also, I would utilize a mega evolution and a Z-move on two of your Pokemon as well for the finished product.

If you're weak to flying type, I would definitely recommend you get an ice type poke/move. It's an all-around good type, being super-effective against 4 different types, though if you consider a poke with that type, it is also weak to 4 types.

I've always had a large amount of success having a water-type Pokemon that knows ice beam, it's a must if you need coverage from flying and dragon types!!

Okay I have a bit of a problem with your Gardevoir's moveset. I would just like to know what its purpose is exactly. Your use of Calm Mind suggests you want it to be a special sweeper, but its only attacking move is Psychic. Moonlight and Double Team suggest a tank role, but your biggest hurdle to a tank Gardevoir is going to be its abysmal 60 Defense stat which Calm Mind doesn't affect.

If you want a special sweeper, I would highly suggest getting Moonblast. Right now you are basically useless against dark types.

If you want a tank, I may be able to devise some sort of build. I cannot guarantee its effectiveness though.

What are your favorite Pokemon from the ice/rock/electric and water types? I find that grabbing a selection of your favorite Pokemon from each type, and then picking one out of each that is a good competitive Pokemon bodes well for a team. It’s also okay to have more than one Pokemon that can mega evolve on your team (with only one mega stone for one of them), but I would also try to consider versatility in the results and make sure only one Pokemon on the team is capable of mega evolution.

Case in point for that last part is that I could not decide between raising a Noibat or Bagon in Ultra Moon, but I already plan on using Gardevoir, so per Silver’s tip that Noivern can use more flying type moves, I went with Noibat.

Oh, is this team for single battles? Because the amount of Pok?mon on a field changes everything.

One thing I just noticed is how 3 of your Pok?mon have really bad physical defense. This is fine if you have other members to help them, but my Sharpedo (or any strong physical sweeper) could very easily destroy half your team in its current state. Torterra helps with that but also happens to be a grass type, one of the worst defensive types in the game. The bright side is that all 3 have decent enough special defense, but a competent opponent will know this and use physical moves whenever possible.

Whoever you choose as your last 2, try to make sure one of them has good defense. I have had many matches where my Sharpedo takes down 3 or more Pok?mon, which could have been prevented with a decent wall.

Thanks for this advice. My first thought was that a fast Electric type could make up for having a slower Ice type (like Jolteon/Aurorus).

But now I am looking at Avalugg, perhaps, to cover both Ice and physical defense. Or perhaps the venerable Skarmory, who does not seem to be a bad fit in any format. Other Pokemon I have considered include Blastoise, Empoleon, and Magnezone.

Sorry again...yeah, this is basically for single battles (six-on-six, I suspect) that I am mostly playing with my brother. I am not interested in getting into full EV training, but if I have extra bottle caps I'll use them to max everyone out. And I don't mind breeding within reason to get ideal abilities and natures.

Thanks again to all for the consults!

Personally I would recommend either Skarmory or Magnezone. Both fill very different roles, but both are very powerful if used correctly.

Also, the cold truth is that slow ice types are simply not that good. It's fine if you want to use them, but just know there are much better options available.

What do you guys think about Cloyster as a water/ice type? Gives me a potential Rapid Spinner as well, if you think that is a necessity and adds the defense.

Leaves one spot for Skarmory or Magnezone. Will need to fit a rock, fighting, and ghost move in, probably.

Cloyster and Magnezone would be good choices. Cloyster is a good Pokemon competitively, as Icicle Crash (I think it is) hits opponents multiple times, and if you use that against a tough ground type it can take care of the opponent in one move. Magnezone is also good as well, but you’ll need Sturdy as its ability, and it would be nice to have it hold an Air Balloon or something like that to prevent ground type moves from being able to hit it once in battle. :)

Here is where I am right now.

Torterra - Adamant (Leftovers)
Stealth Rock
Synthesis
Wood Hammer
Earthquake

Volcarona - Timid (Bugium Z)
Bug Buzz
Quiver Dance
Psychic
Flame Charge

Gardevoir - Timid (Gardevoirite)
Calm Mind
Moon Blast
Psychic
Double Team

Alolan Muk - Adamant (Assault Vest)
Toxic
Pursuit
Gunk Shot
? Knock Off?

Cloyster - Naughty
Icicle Spear
Shell Smash
Rapid Spin
???

Last Pok?mon seems like I should go Skarmory. But I am still trying to figure out whether to rock Magnezone instead, or possibly Hawlucha.

Anyways, thanks everyone for the suggestions thus far!

You already have enough weaknesses to flying, so I wouldn’t go with Hawlucha. And Magnezone takes some skill to pull off....

Honestly, I would just go with Skarmory. One of the very first times I used it in a match the opponent could not defeat me because I kept Roosting... its move set should be....

1. Roost
2. Spikes
3. Whirlwind
4. Air Slash/some other attacking move

Sturdy ability

You can choose the item, though probably something simple like a Sitrus berry would be best.

How it works is this: You switch in and use Spikes as much as possible (until you go below half and the Sitrus berry kicks in). Then you use Whirlwind to keep opponents from seriously attacking, and they keep getting hurt by the spikes. You’ll have to Roost at some points too (depending on the situation), and you’ll also need to use an attacking move to finish some opponents off.

It also takes a little bit of memorization and practicing to use well, but I just remember being able to get the hang of it quickly in the middle of a match.

All of this is of course still just a suggestion. You are free to use Magnezone or Hawlucha instead, though I personally wouldn’t use Hawlucha, because then half your team is weak to flying types.
