So, i've been allergic to eggs since I was 6. Now my allergy is very severe, I can't go out without my EpiPen and I almost died approximately 5 times . When I'm ordering at a restaurant I often have to explain to them how careful they need to be with crossed contamination, and one of the things that irritates me the most is them only knowing how to manage food for celiacs and not allergic people, when allergies are way more deadly than being celiac (not saying that celiacs don't matter). So this would be how the conversation goes at a random restaurant:

Me: I'd want a burger, I'm allergic to eggs so I was wondering if the bread contains egg.
Them: no problem, we have bread for celiacs
Me: 0-0

Does this happen to y'all allergic people?

Not those annoying mishaps, though since I'm allergic to nuts and peanuts I always have to double check things. Also it annoys me when people obviously know I'm allergic to them and buys like pastries and stuff with nuts in the just cause they looked yum and 99% of the others can eat it....how about no.

That sounds annoying. I haven't had this problem. I'm only allergic to artificial cinnamon.

Yess ¡-¡ they would always bring a cake with egg to everyone’s birthday when we were little and I was just sitting there staring at the cake like 0-0

They wouldn’t even offer me anything 🥺😭. Is it that hard to think about others

I dunno which sucks more tbf I'd rather be without pastry in some cases but yeah they should at least check on their stuff and offer alternatives :/

The only food allergy I have is to shrimp. What is worse, it developed in my teens, so I can remember eating it and enjoying it. :(

I can't imagine people being so thoughtless about offering alternatives for people with allergies or those who don't eat certain foods. My writing group likes to do birthday celebrations and parties at various times throughout the year. One person is vegan, so a small cake/dessert is always provided for her while the rest of us have cake. Another is deathly allergic to tomatoes, so pizza parties always have a white pizza for her, and a third is allergic to broccoli, so if someone brings veggies and dip, they always make sure to keep the broccoli "quarantined" so it doesn't contaminate the other veggies for her.

That’s so nice ¡-¡. My group of friends would never do something like that for me, they do care if I get an allergic reaction but they can’t be bothered to buy something with no egg for me. They made me pay for a cake that I wasn’t even gonna eat.

I have a TON of food allergies and while most restaurants have been very accommodating, the one issue I often have is having to remind the server to check to see if a certain food uses something I’m allergic to. It can be awkward when I know they’re busy and running around multiple tables but I’m also not trying to die lol

I don't, but my mother's very allergic to onions. You have no idea how fed up she is with people completely ignoring her when she tells them that her order absolutely positively cannot have onions on it, and yet they slap them on it anyway. She can only eat them if they're cooked a specific way: which is apparently not done in any restaurant in the state.

I have a cinnamon allergy, but only a contact one. Still, I don't like walking around looking like Ronald McDonald had a fight with a tube of lipstick (for context, I discovered this after brushing my teeth with cinnamon toothpaste). I can eat it; actual real cinnamon, I mean--Pumpkin Spice isn't always pleasant to my system (so perhaps they're not using true cinnamon).

I'm not allergic to any foods, but my sister is severely allergic to nuts. Luckily, she hasn't had any bad experiences with trying to get food and avoiding cross-contamination and all. But also, I don't think nuts aren't as difficult of an allergy to deal with as eggs.

She’s lucky😂. People who’s allergic to nuts tend to have a worse allergic reaction but it is true that there are not as many foods with nuts than with eggs.

There actually are if you eat a lot of vegan/vegetarian and certain countries' cuisines and yeah cookies/pastries in particular, but yea egg must defo be worse since lit everything contains that...

Oof 0-0. I’ve never met a person who’s allergic to gluten. Do you have to carry an EpiPen with you?
it’s not like that, it’s called celiac disease, and it can cause severe digestive issues. it’s not technically an allergy because there is nothing to cure it as of yet, and it is more long-term side effects. it’s actually not that hard to deal with anymore, because there are a lot more gluten free products now then when i was diagnosed with it! so that’s a positive i guess c:
